The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Begovic – (Gilks)
Azpilicueta – Evans – van Aanholt – (Wisdom – Bartley)

Roscola admits his team has a major flaw in that it is potentially benchless. He says though that he’s happy for QPR striker Bobby Zamora never to play, because this is a 3-5-2 that reverts to four at the back for first sub. He believes that there are more points available in the budget bracket in defence than further upfield. Sticking with this basic strategy he is looking for advice to find extra funds to invest in his bench. Downgrading Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas to Manchester City’s Samir Nasri is one option he is considering.

    Hi guys, any help is most appreciated. Nailed down most of my team but a few dilemmas and you've convinced me to sway Cameron for Shawcross due to Cameron not being nailed on.

    Davis/Sanchez with 1m ITB

    or Ramsay/Isgrove with 3m ITB

    or Sanchez/Isgrove with 1.5m ITB

    Any other suggestions for the spare cash on improvements/an overall rating would be most appreciated. Taylor/Wisdom/Davis/Isgrove to be early bandwagon fodder as necessary hence my preference for spare cash.

        Yeah the bench isn't awesome but I think maybe I will make up for any lost points from there with points gained from a stronger starting 11 in other weeks.

        Could use that .5 to improve one though.

          I have no Liverpool players and I wont until maybe GW6ish.

          I think Manquillo is a good choice but with tough teams coming he wont get clean sheets, Id get another 5.0m defender maybe Kaboul, or use the 5.5 and get debuchy!

          Sterling can still perform with tough fixtures so he's ok I guess.

          Hamer my choice as 4.0 GK. He isnt picked by many so price wont drop.

      Looks good, but how do you have 4 united players? Would switch out mutch to 4.5 and upgrade fab to hazard. I like hull starting fixtures would switch coloccini for chester and dont like giroud but can see him score goals.

      What fletcher? I presume its the sunderland one, I would think so.
      Davis - I think its risky. I had davis then got kaboul for reassurance, can always transfer

    I'd be grateful for your views on the team below:

    Green (Speroni)
    Cahill Ferdinand Vertonghen (Neil Taylor) (Wisdom)
    Young Ramsey Fábregas Lamela (Sigurdsson)
    Diego Costa Rooney (Bojan)

    1 million in the bank

    My thinking is as follows:

    Goalkeepers - I like Green's price tag and how he and Speroni rotate.

    Defence - I'm not all that happy about doubling-up on QPR, with both Green and Ferdinand, but can't seem to find a 4.5 million defender with better fixtures who looks nailed on. I am considering an upgrade to Debuchy, but at the same time want banked money for midfield upgrades.

    Midfield - I would prefer Hazard to Fábregas long-term, but fear that the former will be rested in the opening fixtures. Young is Man. United. midfield coverage, as I can't afford Mata. I am a big Eriksen fan, but have preferred Lamela due to his playing in the hole.

    Forwards - Costa and Rooney seem clear choices to me. The Bojan / Sigurdsson rotation is based purely on what other people have been saying here.

    Money in the bank - I'm tempted to try find another million somewhere, maybe by weakening the defence further. This would give me 2 million in the bank and would leave both Yaya and Sánchez within reach, should I want (or have) to jump on an early bandwagon. I'd appreciate any opinions on this approach and thoughts on the team. Cheers!

      - Speroni maybe not a certainty for each week
      - Monitor comments on Vert's fitness
      - Young AND Bojan AND Lamela AND Costa = too many punts for me, plus the risk of Siggy not starting as we all hope

        Thanks for the feedback. I had initially considered Costa a punt for not having Premier League experience, but he's a big hitter with no fitness doubts hanging over him. I have Rooney, so Sturridge is the only other nailed-on, big-bucks striker out there, but his opening fixtures and the extra million weigh against him.

        I might revert to Eriksen over Lamela, because the latter certainly is a punt.

        I hadn't considered Vert's fitness, so will keep an ear to the ground on that. Young could certainly be reconsidered, but Sigurdsson and Bojan come as a package, so I think that punt is there to stay!

      What about DDG and a 4m keeper for the same price and spending 9.5m on two defenders? You could get 2 4.5m defenders and save 0.5m to spend elsewhere

      I wouldn't be happy benching 6m in attack every week. pick either a 5th bench striker or a 5th bench mid IMO

        The time will come when I need City players but I think the opening gameweeks are fine without one. I will wait for the World Cup stars to integrate back into the team and see who hits form. The only exciting player right now is Jovetic and I don't like the amount of risk he carries.

      Speroni isn't nailed-on. Not the end of the world as you have Green but you don't want a 5m keeper who won't play. What about getting DDG and swapping Jevans for Ward?

      I also assume you plan to play 4-3-3 some weeks given your relatively strong defence. Not the greatest strategy I think especially since Kaboul and Wilson carry a bit of risk

      What is your exit strategy if Bojan flops? The teams looks fine if you are set on defensive cover from those teams, but I'm uncomfortable with the lack of both Hazard and Mata.

    Also, thoughts on my defense? I had B.Davis before but I heard he wasn't guaranteed a spot? And Giroud or Bony or any other 8.5 price striker? Finally, does anyone else think that it seems to be a midfield year, thus prompting them to go for a 3-5-2?
