The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen’s inclusion was reliant on his move to Manchester United, which now looks to have fallen through. Who should he replace him with?

He concedes Charles N’Zogbia is a huge punt in midfield. Is it a gamble too far? Alexis Sanchez is an insurance policy and he feels he can easily downgrade the Arsenal midfielder to his cheaper team mate Aaron Ramsey.

      Decent team.. but no giroud costa or sturridge can't see u lasting long with 4-5-1
      I'd rather have those strikers than silva or fab

        Also swap Skrtel and Kosc out for defenders that have kinder fixtures for the first 8 or so games. Get a Chelsea defender in there!

    Tried to go a little outside the box with a strategy of 2 rotating Gk's, 7/8 high ownership 'heavy hitters' and 2/3 differentials*;

      Ramsey to start with, although Eriksen is well worth keeping an eye on for the first few weeks. Easier to downgrade Ramsey to Eriksen than upgrade Erisken to Ramsey.

      Perhaps Sturridge to Jovetic or Pelle for a bit of a differential/gamble and use the £3.5 to change Hoilett to Sterling/Countinho or Lamela/Eriksen ?

      Just not sure Sturridge is going to hit the ground running without Suarez and after a dire world cup!

      I plan on playing Siggy most of the time except the tough fictures (Manu first week).
      Henderson is for me the tradeable asset. To move and take advantage of bandwagons.
      Rooney as Captain. Not sure Costa vs Sturridge but going with more proven ones at the start.
      Not convinced with City and their fixtures for the start so gonna wait and see. Same with Chelsea Midfield.
      In defense gonna play Azpi (needs monitoring) and Debuchy plus a 3way rotation of the rest. Might change Mariappa to Yoshida.

      That looks a good side to me!

      Albrighton instead of Wanyama perhaps? might miss the first game but perhaps he'd be a more creative/attacking option?

      so unsure about the £6m siggy issue!

    Playing a 3-5-2

    I've been brutal in skimping on my defence with the logic that I can downgrade one of the midfielders once the season is underway if they don't perform/ the next £6/7m Ramsey comes along. Also we'll be in a better position to see which of the cheap defenders are starting. I chose Chambers as it seems as if he'll get at least one or two starts before Mertesacker is back and O'shea because he's one of the few "nailed on" £4.5 defenders I think.

    Lamela is differential to Eriksen, I just have a feeling! 🙂

    What do we think? Any better cheap as chips defensive line-ups?

      I like it a lot. I'm assuming you are aware Cameron isn't nailed on, nor will Wisdom be for the long term. But the rest of the defense is strong anyway to make up for it

    Notes: My other three midfielders are Ramsey, Mata and Sigurdsson. I have Costa up front as Chelsea cover. I have no Tottenham cover if I don't go with Lamela (or Eriksen). I have no Liverpool cover if I don't go with Sterling. I seem to be changing my team every five minutes, and have been for a while 🙂

      I would change Luis for Cahill as Luis like he could be a rotational risk. Isla could be a good differential not to sure how he'll do with keeping CS though..

        I already have Cahill so will most likely stick. Just tempting to have Isla as he could very well be playing OOP, meaning clean sheets wouldn't matter so much if he's assiting and/or scoring goals. Probably best to monitor him though and wait and see how he gets on, I guess.

          For 5.0 there are better options IMO but its not an awful decision if you like the idea go with it, who knows the punt might pay off..

      Been hearing Cameron is a doubt for being nailed-on. Hard to find many good shouts at that price though -- Mariappa would be good value as Pulis has indicated he plans on starting him (only missed the last match due to a rib injury niggle). However, nothing is set in stone. I've opted for Chester for 4.5 as he's pretty much guaranteed and Hull's fixtures aren't *that* bad for the fist 5 gameweeks.

        Where you been hearing this? I'd be surprised if he wasn't. Already have Hull coverage with Bruce so dont really want to double up might go for Mariappa. Does my DF look strong enough?

          Just been hearing it on here. I should probably check on Stoke's line-ups for their recent friendlies.
          You've essentially got the same set up as me -- Cahill/Evans/4.5 then two 4.0 subs, so I'd say yes.

          I would like an extra 0.5 or 1 mil to play with but it's just not possible if I want to stick with my attacking 7.

            Think he only played 13 minutes in their last friendly, and a half in the match previous. But I'm not really that in the know with the Stoke word on the street so you're probably best ignoring my doubts unless you here otherwise from Stoke fans.

              He may be a risk for GW 1 since he was at the World Cup. Deserved rest i reckon 😉 I'm going to keep him in the plans he'll in the Squad in the upcoming GW's after that for sure.

      GK - downgrade courtois as he may be rotated with cech, De Gea?
      defence - too much money in it maybe downgrade zab?
      Midfield - Strong
      Att - Lukaku is a doubt for Gw 1 use the money from downgrading zab and courtois to upgrade.

            Arsenal's early fixtures are a bit difficult one. right? i guess Courtois will start atleast for the opening few weeks. Not sure though!! And am not sure abt giroud, will dzeko/jovetic start??
