There may be under a week left under the 2014/15 season gets underway but for many Fantasy managers, the midfield dilemma is yet to be resolved. In the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, in particular, the player price list has handed us numerous options to consider for our five-man midfields, with ten players coming in at 9.0 or over:

In this, our latest article for members, we take a look at four of the main contenders – Eden Hazard, Aaron Ramsey, Juan Mata and Raheem Sterling – currently on Fantasy radars.

Sterling has netted in two of his last four appearances and, after notching nine times last term, is backed by many to step up for Liverpool after Luis Suarez’ departure. Ramsey’s 10 goals and nine assists in just 23 appearances last season has catapulted the Welshman into the premium bracket at 9.0, with his strike in yesterday’s Community Shield handing us a timely reminder of his talents. Mata (9.0) has been one of Louis van Gaal’s star performers in the role in “the hole” in a new 3-4-1-2 formation, whilst the 10.0-priced Hazard, despite only returning to pre-season action last week, sits in 22% of squads ahead of fixtures against promoted pair Burnley and Leicester in his first two fixtures.

Casting an eye back to last season, then, we delve into the data and compare their respective displays. First up, we assess each player’s creativity and distribution.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Ramsey or Fab

Prefer Ramsey long term but just because of those cracking fixtures early doors for Cheslea I'm thinking of going for Fabregas

    Wise idea?

I wouldn't start without Ramsey, but with those early fixtures I would definitely also want Chelsea midfield. It's a tough one but I would be trying to edge someone else out of my team to get Fabregas.

Ah cheers mate. Would be pure conjecture at this point, but it seems to me Pulis is sort of waiting for a reason to bench Speroni. He loves a big lad and Hennessey is certainly that. There isn't like a specific GW I could say, just that I reckon Speroni is a few mistakes away from seeing the bench. Really hard done by if this is the case for the service he has given the club, and he has shown last year he still has some bright days ahead of him.

I think Chamakh is certain. Gayle theoretically should have done enough late last year to get a prolonged run and chance to compliment Chamakh, but with Campbell on board, I'm not so sure he will. I think it will be Chamakh/Campbell, but Gayle could easily fit in there as well. We could run out just one striker though in our first fixture against Arsenal and may line up 451. Either way, would avoid a Palace striker all together.

Cameron not locked, same for Luis (but I have him), Bruce too. Jovetic is not a lock and Costa is so far unproven in the BPL. I went this way and am deciding whether to downgrade defense to improve one forward:

Hey big spender, think you might be going a bit too large in defence considering you will have to play Bojan every week. Perhaps you could go:

      Taylor to Bartley
      Shawcross to Huth
      Coloccini to Hutton/Moore/Wisdom

Then use the spare 1.5 to change Isgrove to Siggy and rotate him with Bojan?

      Just a thought.

Taylor to Bartley is an easy way of saving 0.5 on Swansea defence, Huth is not as nailed as Shawcross, but he is the second most likely to play in Stoke's back 4, and it seems a bit much to pay 5.5 for a Stoke defender, despite their history. Coloccini seems to be a random afterthought in that defence because you had 4.5 left for your last spot. To be honest, I can't see you needing your 5th defender, and with the 3 I mentioned all at 4.0 and seeming likely to nail a spot early doors, it would just be the easiest way to skim that last 0.5 you need to get a decent mid that rotates perfectly with Bojan.

          Seems pretty elementary to me.

What do you think about dropping Ramsey for Siggy to upgrade Long to Giroud? It makes it much more balanced imo, and Giroud will surely do well with Ramsey, Sanchez, Ozil, Cazorla, etc. feeding him?

    Mids/Forwards would be

    Siggy/Mata/Lamela/Hazard/4.5
    Rooney/Costa/Giroud

Not sure whether Long is the best option at his price in attack, but don't quite me on that. That being said, I have both Ramsey and Siggy and they are the most nailed in my midfield 5, wouldn't get rid of either imo.

Starting to get cold feet on Siggy a little, but with that extra 3M, that's a lot of improvement to the team which could very easily make up the point difference, so getting hard to turn down.

Turn down for what?...Pun intended but the point still stands. At his price, I can't see any better alternatives, and because he is so kindly priced, it makes a world of difference to the rest of your team.

Oh great, I've started to want Silva in my midfield now. Silva, Hazard, Ramsey, Fabregas, Mata, Lamela, Sterling and I'm supposed to pick 3 or 4 at a stretch. Can you imagine if Ozil and Walcott were fit or Lallana was still at Saints. Far too many options this year, I wish they'd priced some of them out of contention.

Overpriced, but at the very least gives you some flexibility to jump down to Sanchez/Hazard/9m mid if you need to. Also gives flexibility for a 4-pt. hit, which may be a popular thing to do in the first 2-3 weeks.

Removing bias, I would feel most comfortable having a rotating partner with him to start off. I don't think Palace are in the "auto-start against all except top 4" category just yet - though they may emerge to fit that qualification as the season wears on. But you could do a lot worse than playing him every week as Palace were just as good defensively last year after TP took over as any club in the Prem.
