The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

The next up is our fixtures specialist Roscola.

Begovic – (Gilks)
Azpilicueta – Evans – van Aanholt – (Wisdom – Bartley)
Mata – Fabregas – Ramsey – Sterling – Sigurdsson
Rooney – Costa – (Zamora)

Roscola admits his team has a major flaw in that it is potentially benchless. He says though that he’s happy for QPR striker Bobby Zamora never to play, because this is a 3-5-2 that reverts to four at the back for first sub. He believes that there are more points available in the budget bracket in defence than further upfield. Sticking with this basic strategy he is looking for advice to find extra funds to invest in his bench. Downgrading Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas to Manchester City’s Samir Nasri is one option he is considering.

    My latest draft:

    Begovic (Gilks)

    Ward Jones Chester (Moore) (Hutton)

    Fabregas Ramsay Mata Siggy (Marney)

    Rooney Sturridge Dzeko

    I'm pretty happy with it. Like the balance between the big teams in the front 7. Only concern is I really want Hazard rather than Fabregas. Just can't find a way to do it without weakening defence (or further weakening...).

    Any thoughts?

      I think you should be happy with Fabregas, he will probably be the more consistent point scorer.

      Only other way is to get another FWD[Costa, Giroud, Bony, Jovetic??] instead of Sturridge?

      Personally, you can't have it all especially if slashing the defense and ruining your strong FWD line-up isn't an option.

        Thanks chaps. You're probably right, I think it's the most balanced team I can make.

        I wanted either Studge or Sterling for some Liverpool coverage, so don't really want to swap Studge out, as I wouldn't drop Mata or Ramsey for Sterling - they're key (for me).

        This but I might swap out some defence to upgrade Pelle for somebody more proven like Dzeko or Lukaku. Would prefer to see how Pelle goes.

        Ditching Kolarov+Kos for two 5.0M DEFs leaves you with 2.0M to upgrade Bojan or Pelle with---whichever you less confident in.

      Thanks for the tips guys.. I actually plan to start the season with combo 442 and 352 formation since I cant find a valuable striker at the moment.. with Lukaku Aguero RVP unfit, Suarez out, we're only left with Sturridge and Giroud as the premium striker.. for now, I feel investing in mid and defense are more valuable..       Like Trippier. I'd upgrade Barkley and Sterling to Lamela/Eriksen and Fabregas with extra money

      I'd downgrade the defence a little to upgrade the midfield but that's just my take. I don't like an expensive defence.

      Its a tough one to choose the right on of lamela/eriksen.. where will Fab be playing? Who is on spot kicks.. i thought costa? Nasri is looking great though.. hadn't considered barkley's fixtures

      Looks alright. You might be able to get a bit more out of your defence if you downgrade Hazard to Fabregas.

      Consider DDG for your United defensive cover too, then downgrade Evans to PVA.

      lovren and ward to rotating 4.5s (for example, O Shea and Rio)? Haz to Fab? Giroud to a budget striker (this would probably save you more than 1 mil unless you went for remy)?

    I'm thinking of having a three way rotation between Bojan, Siggy and Henderson. It seems that every week, at least two of the three have reasonable fixtures. I realise this tactic will probably involve me leaving some points on the bench fairly often, but it does allow the rest of my team to be very strong, and leaves me well placed to deal with injuries etc. Anyone care to share their thoughts on this idea?

      Planning the Chambers swap after GW1 myself. 45% unsure I want to use my 1st transfer on him .

      Personally not a fan of Silva -- I'd swap him for Sterling and use the 0.5M to upgrade Rio to Caulker [if you fancy QPR] or any other 5.0M DEF [Ward perhaps?]

        As the previous reply,I really like and rates Silva as differential and I think he will be City best scoring mid 🙂 What about Mata to someone else as I got Rooney cover and take Tadic and 5.0 or Henderson and Siggy in mid?

          Fair punt. Down to preference and gut feelings really.

          Mata's fixtures are as juicy as they come. I say hold on to him and transfer him out for Tadic after you see him play or monitor his performances. Playing against a gung-ho Liverpool should give fpl managers what kind of player he is. Just one game but could end up revealing a lot.

          Main reason for the wait-and-see approach is that in Austin & Jovetic, you taking a gamble with 2 of your forwards.

      - Your defence is very weak. The quality of the player can sometimes cover up the team they actually play for; Vlaar is an example of this. Cameron is not nailed on.

      I'd look to downgrade Ward and Pieters to free up a little cash. Not really a fan of Delph either. Rest of the team is solid I think. Beware that Bony could be sold on.

      I think you need a more reliable defence. Consider downgrading Debuchy to make it work. Your 3 cheap defenders are all not nailed on.

      Chelsea defender could be a lot worse than Evans.

      Team is unbalanced, you are suffering in defence, look at downgrading someone to improve it.
      Luis and Azp are both not 100% certain, can you afford a 6.5

      I don't think you have to. Its really hard with the Chelsea defence at the moment as to who will be the regular starters.

      If you want to take the risk though and get a Chelsea defender consider Getting DDG for United cover and downgrading Ward to Mariappa.
