The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

The next up is our fixtures specialist Roscola.

Begovic – (Gilks)
Azpilicueta – Evans – van Aanholt – (Wisdom – Bartley)
Mata – Fabregas – Ramsey – Sterling – Sigurdsson
Rooney – Costa – (Zamora)

Roscola admits his team has a major flaw in that it is potentially benchless. He says though that he’s happy for QPR striker Bobby Zamora never to play, because this is a 3-5-2 that reverts to four at the back for first sub. He believes that there are more points available in the budget bracket in defence than further upfield. Sticking with this basic strategy he is looking for advice to find extra funds to invest in his bench. Downgrading Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas to Manchester City’s Samir Nasri is one option he is considering.

    Also not too sure about these couple of things:

    1. Cahill/Azpi? Mourinho favours Azpi but Cahill for the clean sheets?
    2. Mariappa has a potential injury and rotation risk?
    3. El Ahmadi or another 4.5 Mid? (Albrighton injured?)

    Very long thinking and 1000s of changes, but I guess I like this now:

    Mannone / Krul – prefer it to DDG/4.0: save 0.5, the combinations play only once against big team, injury risk is lower

    Evans – need a United because of good fixtures
    Cahill – need a Chelsea
    Chambers – for 1 or 2 weeks, then find a "nailed on" 4.5
    Wisdom – good fixtures (compared e.g. to Moore)
    Bruce – good fixtures

    Mata – good form, good fixtures
    Ramsey – good form, I hope not as many injuries as last year
    Sterling – good form
    Sigurdson – I think the best 6.0, may change to Hendo
    Isgrove – one of the best 4.5

    Rooney – good form, good fixtures
    Costa – a need
    Giroud – prefer him to Jove/Dzeko because they’re not nailed

    Been messing around with my defence all day!

    -Chambers. Know he will start GW1. Time to see if Marriappa/ Stoke 4.5 gets a start
    -Left NEW and SUND all their 'good' fixtures seem to be away
    -QPR. Have Austin so want involvement else where
    -4.0 Wisdom. Just need him to play, not planning in being in my first 11 too much

      I would like to help but in my Country Austria we got almost no preseasonal coverage so it is difficult to give any advice from the distance. Therefore I very appreciate your rating for me:-)
      But I'll try:
      GK - the more I think about it, the more I like it!
      Def - for me too weak
      Mid - very strong, maybe downgrade Haz to Fab and upgrade the def
      FW - ok if you like Austin

    A. Who are the best DEF options at 4m and 4,5m?
    B. Who is the best mid for 4,5m?
    C. Too heavy mid and for at the expense of the defence?

      a, wisdom is 4.0 and 4.5 is van aanholt and naughton or chambers
      b, struggle to have a 4.5 mid play
      c, drop Sanchez to Ramsey or cazorla for 1.5/2.0 and dzeko for bojan which will save a bit. aguero and negredo will start over him when they are fit. also jovotic had a good pre season

    GOOD AFTERNOON ladies and gents! 🙂

    Here is regularly pondered dilemma we are ALL facing:
    A) to LOAD UP in defence?
    B) or GO BIG in attack?

    Having mused long and hard about it I have opted for B as I can downgrade expensive strikers in the first couple of weeks to buy the performing bandwagons (or hopefully just stick with the ones I have chosen!)

    Here is my GW1 team, I know what you're thinking, at face value it appears weak at the back, however it offers me the following coverage for the first 5 week (which I will not change!!)

    Begovic (Krul) - rotated each week
    Evans Wisdom Chester (Ward, Bartley)
    Eriksen Ramsey Mata Fabregas (Sigurdsson)
    Rooney (C) Costa (VC) Bojan

    qpr SWA SUN
    WHM STO BUR
    avl bur WBA
    BUR WHM QPR
    new leics SOT

    My doubts:
    1) Bojan - new hero or massive zero? I reckon he's worth a punt! Any better choices??
    2) Costa - good preseason but might struggle but first season in Prem? Might struggle! Would like to go Sturridge however don't warm to Liverpool's opening fixtures.
    3) No Hazard! Go Mata to Herrera to free up some cash?

    My main issue is that I have no City or Liverpool coverage. Considering replacing Fabregas for Sterling or Silva (although I wasn't impressed by City's performance in the Community Shield)

    My secondary issue is that I am not 100% convinced about Long, although Hull do have some favourable opening fixtures.

      So my choice is to either have
      i) N Taylor + Sterling

      OR

      ii) Fabregas + Moore
