The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

    Could downgrade Terry and get Hazard instead of Cesc, any thoughts on this ?

      I'm not sure I'd make any downgrades on that defense. I wish there was certainty that Felipe Luis will start, but that £0.5m won't get you from Fab to Haz anyway. I ended up going with a cheap third forward (F. Campbell) to free up the funds for Costa/Haz/Cahill. I've gone with Eriksen over Ramsey as well, if you're willing to make that sacrifice you could upgrade to Haz.

    RMT please.

    Begovic (Kruul) - fitting swaps until gw 14 or something.
    Clyne Taylor Chambers Evans Manquillo
    Hazzard Eriksen Ramsey Huddlestone Mata
    Rooney Bojan Adebayor

    Thoughts: A bit weak on top but think ade can make an early impact due to new manager and a more set midfield. Rooney captain material but missing out on Costa thought not yet proven. Could swap with hazzard and trade down in midfield but not plenty of options.

    Could go dzeco over ade but its more short term and man c face a hard start and could well be few points, not great in com shield either.

    Happy with my GK and there rotation and with the defence more or less aswell If manquillo should start.

    Any thoughts ideas for swaps would be greatly appriciated.

      Front 3 is way too heavy. Consider downgrading either one and upgrade your midfield because the mids get the most points.
      Otherwise, a pretty good team.

      Lukaku's fixture isn't good, and IMO Yaya is overriced. Also, too much Utd defence, so perhaps downgrade DDG to begovic or replace evans.

      Find a way to get Rooney in. Would put Mutch in place of Puncheon and don't double on ManU defence.

        I decided to keep DDG as he is absolutely nailed on and I'm not as sure about Evans. I took your advice on Mutch. That gives me an extra 0.5 mil which I might sit on until I see how the squads play outout. Maybe change Hazard to Sanchez but leave it for now as I've got Ramsey.

      I like this team, very well balanced.
      However, Manonne is not guaranteed to start. Perhaps even downgrade him to a 4.0 and replace taylor-fletcher.

        For me Bony will always be a 3rd striker.

        Dzeko is always subject to rotation.

        I think Giroud will be an automatic start, at least until Walcott returns....Still possible to see Sanchez up top on Sat.

        For WK1, Dzeko or Giroud...I'd do a punt before spending on Bony.

    Questions:
    1. Obvious upgrade with the 0.5 in the bank?
    2. Would you play Fletcher over El Ahmadi?
    3. Defence look right?

    Feels like the balance is right. Thoughts appreciated.

      Balance is good. i like your frontline. it was mine for about 2 weeks until a reshuffle. I would definitely play Fletcher over El Ahmadi. He could be gold this year at 5.5.

      Your GKs are a worry. do QPR & Newcastle rotate. Could be an interesting rotaion.

        Thanks for the reply. Fletcher is now in! They rotate decently. I was trying to save with two 4.5's, but perhaps that's where I spend the 0.5 and drop Green for perhaps Begovic or Boruc, who both rotate well with QPR\Krul

      Spend £0.5 to upgrade Vlaar. Villa don't look very solid, and their fixtures after GW3 are hellish.

      Fletcher over El Ahmadi for sure.

      I understand the appeal of Shaw, but there are cheaper routes into Utd's defense, albeit with perhaps less potential for attacking returns. Also, I've gone with Begovic/Krul, but with QPR's defensive acquisitions Green should be fine. Bruce won't start, so you may want more of a sure thing than PVA for your fourth defender (Coloccini/Williamson?)

        I've gone vlar to Calker. Downgraded Shaw to Phil Jones. This gives me:

        I will search around for other thoughts, but I am wondering if there is a 4.0 alternative to Bruce that is nailed on?

          Most nailed 4.0 is probably Wisdom, though if West Brom keep three clean sheets all season I'll eat my shoes.

    Two things im worried about:
    1) Cameron and Jovetic are not nailed on

    Ok after much reading stats etc, think I'm sorted with a balanced team with a strong mid and defence, good rotating keepers and the 2 non-casual punts upfront

    Foster / Krul
    Baines, Cahill, Evans, Moore, Bartley (or other 4.0 tbc)
    Sterling, Ramsey, Mata, Fab, Wanyama (or Albrighton if fit)
    Bojan (I know!), Jovetic, Rooney

      imo baines is too expensive.. besides they face Chelsea arsenal man u and Liverpool in the 1st 7 games.

      and too much risk with jovetic and bojan

      I believe u will face captaincy issues too , u can probably only captain rooney and mata

        True on Baines, but he is the PK/FK taker and the Arsenal/Chelsea games are at home.

        Martinez will have them competing at a high level.

      jovetic may be good only till aguero returns..and city dont have a good run of games . and i dont rate sterling to be 8.5 material.. rather go with coutinho for 8.0.

    Could use some help, I am fairly happy with my front 8, but I am thinking about downgrading my defense and Siggy or Costa to upgrade Bojan to a 7,5-8,5 striker.

      Depends on what cover you have for City & Arsenal. I think Dzeko is a very safe bet for games and goals early on

      I would start with Dzeko as he will be starting initially and then once more risk of rotation then can always swap for Giroud

      It is a very good team. Can't find much faults in this one. Personally I wouldn't use Jagielka because Everton has bad fixtures, but that's about it.

    the only dilemma I'm currently battling is whether I keep pelle or switch to dzeko.
    think I've found 3 cheap defenders who rotate well and supposed to play.
    it's always a gamble,but I'm willing to take the risk.

      Swap out one of your spurs midfielders for Coutinho maybe? I would keep Eriksen.

    Just wondering about people's opinions on Diego Costa. His World Cup form was very poor. Why are people so convinced he is a must have striker. He seems to be on a lot of people's RMT's. The FFS article a few wks ago did not inspire me with confidence to go out and buy this guy. Is it Chelsea's favourable fixtures and RVP/Aguero not starting are leading people to buy Costa?

      He did pretty well in the preseasons though, while Hazard did not do so well. Since Chelsea has such a favourable fixture, Costa is IMO the best choice.

      I think his World Cup form was more of a thing to do with not fitting in with Spains Tika Taka style, rather than problems with his ability......I think he'll crush in the Prem

    Evans - lovren - naylor - Chester - wisdom (naylor can fill in for lovren's poor week 2 and 3 and rotate well with Chester /wisdom)
    Haz - mata - Ramsey - lamella - siggy
    Roo - dzeko - bojangles (rotates with siggy well)
