While off-field matters in Darras Hall, Northumberland last week may have made him one of the most (in)famous landlords in Britain, Kevin Nolan has subsequently shown he is fully focused on his football right now with a goal and two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points in last weekend’s 2-1 win at West Ham.

With four of their next six games at St James’ Park (SUN, ars, BLA, FUL, bol, CHE), Newcastle have a decent run of fixtures on the horizon, and although Chris Hughton’s side haven’t won in their last three home games, Nolan has scored three goals in four matches in front of the Geordie fans this season.

Nolan has managed 90 minutes in only two of Newcastle’s last four league games but, significantly, has found the net both times; aside from the West Ham match, his other goal was a penalty against Stoke. Interestingly, with the likes of Joey Barton on the pitch at the time, this suggests Nolan is the club’s number one penalty taker. With the first North East derby against Sunderland in two years up next this weekend at St James‘ Park, the possibility of a spot-kick might not be that too far away in the highly-charged atmosphere. With Fantasy investment in their squad inevitable with the aforementioned fixtures, this could be a factor worth considering.

Hughton’s favoured 4-4-1-1 formation allows Nolan the freedom to float behind Andy Carroll last season, and the system certainly favoured him, with 17 goals in the Championship. Even with a change in shape last weekend, as Newcastle playing 4-4-2 to accomodate Shola Ameobi alongside Carroll, Nolan still found the net. As the following two heat maps (the first in a 4-4-1-1 at home to Stoke, the second in last week’s game at West Ham) Nolan’s ability to get into forward positions doesn’t seem to be affected if Hughton chooses to play him in a centre midfield pairing.

So far this season, he has registered 9 shots on target, more than players such as Nicolas Anelka, Marouanne Chamakh and Darren Bent, and with 4 goals in the 8 games he‘s played in, the Newcastle captain is well on his way to topping his highest total of nine Premier League goals at previous club Bolton.

Nolan is currently part of 9.5% of FPL squads, less than the likes of Gareth Bale, Paul Scholes and Matthew Etherington, although with 40 pts, he has scored more than the trio, despite less game time. His last three games have seen Nolan return an average of 6 points per game, an indication that, in spite of his team’s recent inconsistencies, Nolan is still producing the goods.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Considering bringing in one of their Midfielders (not Nzog as cant afford him).

Poor Joey! I think I would be along the lines of Gomez - but to be honest for the cheapie chappie I generally just go off the next 5 or so fixtures and guaranteed starts. If you're not overly invested in the toon then Gutierrez is improving every game, he'll start copping some BP soon

He sort of runs strangely, effective though. Newcastle have some reasonable fixtures coming up, in the absence of Ben Arfa and the incompetence of Routledge he is our main outlet so he could do pretty well FPL wise in the near future

well it was betfair and my first bet, £10 at 2.54.

When i checked my balance though they only paid me £25 (inc bet), which is more like 1.5. not too happy aabout it, not sure what happens with the free bet they offer as well, any ideas?

              2.54 means, 1 pounds becomes 2.54 pounds. so 10 becomes 25.4

fraction and decimal odds are different.
              5/2 = 3.5, and not 2.5

exactly, so why did they only pay me £25 including my £10 bet. Surely it should have been £35?!?!

£10 on at 5/2 gets you two and a half times your bet, £25 plus your £10 stake back, £35 in total. its not that difficult.

however, if you lay a £10 bet and the bookies match it with a free £10 bet, they wont give you the extra £10 back so although you would have a total bet of £20 on they will give you £25 + £25 + £10 £60 in total.

right, i paid £15 in. They told me there was a free bet up to £25. I placed a £10 bet at 2.54. My balance after the game was £29.

Shouldnt my free bet have been added to that as well?

you have to usually say you are using your free stake on that bet some way, normally by using some kind of code. if not, you should still have it available to be used.

He's only worth the price if he can displace Chamakh. And that seems unlikely. I suppose a cheeky punt for the next two GWs wouldn't be too crazy. Once RVP's back though he's a complete non-starter.

Exactly my thoughts! Hardly slowed down that much, I don't doubt he will be a top 3 mid this season but same with Tevez being a top 3 forward, it makes sense to have 2 Chelsea 1 City than 3 Chelsea I suppose!

Tevez is a season keeper I agree but for this weekend whats the point taking Mal out? If like me you guys have had him from week 1, then your going to lose a SH*TLOAD in value. And he's about go up again.. Chucking Tevez for the short time should cost less.. And dont forget Lampard is due back soon and when he is I reckon Mal wil start banging even more goals in..

I only brought Drogba back in last week so I could loose him and not suffer money wise but I'd hate to get rid of him again, watching Chelsea was horrific without him!

I've had a look at so many different options, it's seriously annoying me! Berba or Tevez out for Carroll and then upgrade N'Zog to Fabregas is the one I keep going back to, but their fixtures are pretty decent for both (Berba & Tevez).

With the injury doubts I think I'm going to wait until Friday night to decide, I don't mind losing £0.1M on Fabs really.

The only way you can get Fabs in is to either chop one of Drogba, Malouda or Tevez. Not a nice decision!

Yeah, I suppose. I do have Nani for Man Utd coverage, but I do also fancy Berba to have a cracker against his old club. But then Fabs will more than likely score much more v West Ham.

I'll leave it til the end of the week to see if Tevez will be fit or not. Cheers boys.

Drogba thought is understandable but mad, if only because you cant replace him with nailed on points, at least if you loose Malouda you gain Fabs, should balance week by week...although Id expect a fit Fabs to win that battle. There isnt anyone like that to replace Drogs-and o RVP doesnt count as hes not fit yet and needs to be to be worth it. Rooney is ..well Rooney at the min! My real prob is my rival will have both Tevex/maloudaand Fabs!
I keep swinging back and forth..I planned to get rid of malouda and still thinking that...same logic as you Goose..but then Im selling the highest scoring midfielder, whose playing upfront for the highest scoring team in the league!haha!Kind of glad Ive no time to think about it really!

I have had the same dilemma all week and the conclusion Im coming to now is that its not worth losing Malouda cos I would lose a SH*TLOAD in value and he's about to go up again! Also what if he carries on scoring and does even better soon when Lamps is back?

Tevez is the one to get rid of in my opinion if your gona get rid of anyone. tevez is a big doubt this weekend. Ok Drogba also comes to mind but I can seee Drogba tunring it around in no time so I owuld lose value on him and then have to bring him straight back..

Excellent points, another one for me at the moment is that only one of my rivals, probably the main one tho, has Tevez at the moment (that will probably change now tho) where as everyone has Malouda so losing Tevez is playing safer and I'm leading my mini leagues so dont need to risk it. If I was chasing I'd lose Malouda I think.

think we saw the same interview as that's all i'd sen of him too. think it was on football focus or inside sport or something like that. was hugely impressed with him and the fans at the side where he was at loan (barnsley?) were raving about him. unlike outfield positions i don't see why keepers who are dominant at one level can't be an instant success at a higher level

joe hart, think it was shrewsbury. think i am guilty of exaggerating a bit here to ram home just how much i rate szedcvbnsdnfnsdnsny despite seeing bugger all of him. what i mean is unlike outfield players if you're a good keeper at one level it's more likely you can cut it at a higher level as it's not like with outfield players where you need a bit more pace, technique etc. you're there to save shots what ever the level. over generalised but i hope you catch my drift

It makes sense. It's the only position where you can play a portly 43-year-old reserve team coach when you run out of other options.

Its a tough call Jack, and he could be rotated but he has played full games with Cahill, Arteta, Neville, Pienaar, and Bilyal. From the injured crew (Rodwell, Osman and Fellaini) - he's played with Fellaini so no competition for places there, and Rodwell and Osman are out until Dec at the earliest.

He's 4.6 currently, and Everton are on the up, so I bought him this week (ahead of Elmohammady, who I'm kicking myself that I didn't draft in). At 4.6 I think he's good value in a resurgent Everton side who appear to have found their backbone, and are facing into a favourable run of fixtures. If you're looking at filling a 4th or 5th defensive position, I don't think you could go far wrong for the price.

(For what its worth, he goes straight into my team this weekend).

Walcott seemed to do alright again tonight?

I'm just gonna stick with Fabs for now until we get a better idea of who has their place locked down, the good news is that more Arsenal players firing = more assists.

I'm hoping for a riot at the weekend!

i'm impressed with just how mature he is nowadays to be fair. yes he didn't set the bar very high in the past but in interviews and just his attitude on the pitch i'm almost starting to like the guy! 😯

Can't see how. Challenge from behind and knocked on his backside, but it wasn't a studs tackle, more of a barge/knee effort.

        From the Guardian

Some bookmakers suspended betting on the former Republic of Ireland international leaving St James' Park with contract negotiations yet to reach a conclusion and his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

However, the club released a statement after Wednesday night's 4-0 Carling Cup defeat by Arsenal confirming their plan to retain his services.

The statement said: "Chris is our manager and will remain our manager, and it is our intention to re-negotiate his contract at the end of the year."

The dreaded vote of confidence! Chris deserves a full season at least. After looking at Carroll tonight, number 1 priority should be to ensure he stays at that club a long long time. He's an absolute bulldozer and imporoving technically too

        Which one:

a)Tevez and Malouda out for Fabregas and Drogba for a 8 pt hit.

b)Berbatov, Tevez and Nasri out for Fabregas, Drogba and Chicharito for 12 pt hit.

c)Nasri out Fabregas in for 4 pt.

d)Nasri, ALbrighton, Tevez, Berbatov and Enrique out, for Drogba, Zigic, Fabregas, Walcott and Simpson for 20 pt hit.

e)do nothing. go with albrighton suspended, tevez in doubt, malouda maybe out and nasri in a deeper role now that walcott is at full speed.

        The team is:
        Cech-Gilks
        Jara-R Johnson-Crainey-Enrique-Coleman
        Albrighton-Malouda-Nasri-VdV-Nani
        Tevez-Berbatov-Carroll

        Cheers.

          b) and d) should be ruled out for ridiculous points hits.

          a) is possible but I'd debate how much it's improved you

          c) is the best choice, but personally I'm doubling up with them.

          e) isn't that horrible

            c) was the plann, but with the news on tevez injury, and malouda not sure in, i started to consider craziest things...

Maybe sitck with the actual team and captain NAsri or made the planned Nasri for Fabregas and captain Fab.
            Time will tell

            Tks for the input.
