The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Green Windmill is keeping 1.0 in the bank to address any issue that may arise from the first week’s games or for a rainy day. Is he right to keep this back? He is also open to suggestions to improve his bench and wonders whether Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard may be a risk given his reduced pre-season. Could his team mate Cesc Fabregas be a better choice?

                haha yeah i've tried that, and to be honest, if wildcarding early, why not, i'd rather go all out attck first to begin with 🙂
                looks like i'll bottle it and stump for henderson and an 8.5 forward though 🙂

    Thoughts? I believe Young is immense value at 5.5, and pretty much has that positioned nailed for 4 weeks. I play 4 at the back cause I've noticed the first 2 gameweeks has more CS in them than the rest of the season.

    Isgrove is my biggest concern, though.

      Young: Midfielder playing a defender position. Won't also benefit from CSs. Has to produce decent attacking returns all 4 weeks. Am less confident than you are.

      Isgrove: Yup--His gametime is unknown at best, questionable pick to come off the bench for a starting 11 who doesn't start.

      Pretty ballsy 4 at the back. Would rather downgrade one of the defenders to upgrade Young to Sterling/Eriksen but you've got your reasons. Don't agree but they are valid.

        Thank you. I'll probably get knee jerky with Young if he doesn't produce. He gets forward a lot though so I don't read too much into his position in the team sheet. But fair comments.

        4 at the back... I'll revert back to 3-4-3 in GW 3. So Eriksen/Lamela might happen then.

      Just enough I reckon. So long as you OK with Young replacing Schürrle in most games, don't see him starting that often and worse, Jose could give him the last 10min in a game to run around.

          Young[MUN] is the flavor of the moment. Not a huge fan myself.

          Matic [CHE] ?? Can't honestly think of a 5.5M MID I'd take myself. Moving that to a 6+M midfielder opens up 'stronger' options.

      I like it but no Arsenal or Chelsea attack could sting you. I had a very similar team and have changed it for that reason. Had to cut Yaya out to make it happen, replaced Bony w Dzeko and Yaya with Haz or one of the Arse M's.

      GK: Pretty straightforward.
      DEF: Not a Rio fan, will go for Caulker if picking from QPR but all about personal preference this. Had Chambers but not sure I want to use a free transfer on taking him out when the BFG &Kos partnership is back next GW.
      MID: Bentaleb?? Ballsy
      FWD: Pretty straightforward. 5% unsure if Giroud will start after Wenger making all that noise about him not being ready.

      GK- Begovic would seem a better shout in GW1, Krul has some tough fixtures.

      Def- Personally I'd have Caulker over Rio if I was picking a QPR defender. Rest looks ok.

      Mid-I have the exact same midfield, taking a risk with Henderson, in terms of him picking up points as a holding midfielder. I think it'll be worth it.

      Would Baines in for Jagielka be a good move? --Yup. But EVE have very difficult games early on. Might want to hold up on getting their defenders.
      an anyone suggest a better option than Ferdinand? -- His CB partner Caulker. Sticking with 4.5M options van Aanholf [SUN].

      ---Also, Vlaar? Aston Villa will leak in goals, hardly worth the investment if your defender doesn't have CS potential IMO.

        I had considered van Aanholt, my only concern was him doubling up with Mannone, although thinking about it that might be better than having a QPR defender.

        I was taking a bit of a punt on Vlaar, he managed 92 last season in what was an awful defence. My thinking is they can't possibly be worse than last year so there's a good chance he'll score more this time round.

      Giroud and Dzeko not nailed on .I don't think Howard needs rotating so can downgrade to 4 mil keeper and upgrade Benteleb .. hutton or Morre instead of duff,baird.

      Too much spent on goalkeepers, Skrtel (or any LFC defender) not the best investment right now, Bentaleb will be lucky to play 30 minutes a month, and I'd drop one of your Utd attackers.

        I could swap Skrtel for Cahill/Terry, Probably Terry.

        Regarding Mata/Herrera I am very unsure which one to leave out really. Swapping out Mata gives me Ramsey, Swapping Herrera gives me Hendo/Sidwell etc and some more money to spend on other spots.

    3.0 ITB (!!!) -> can jump on anything, i can get Dzeko/Jove etc in if Bojan loses value or upgrade mid/def depending on what happens.

        Will find some value pick or Chambers ASAP, not likely play him GW 2 or 3 anyways and see what happens with Stoke defence and Palace defence.

          Worth a try. I had a similiar strategy of rotating between Bojan / Siggy on a previous draft but had nightmares about one of them having a great week when benched and ended up changing it...

            Yeah, I've been back and forth on this. Don't really like rotating offensive players either - however, if I put in Dzeko/Jove in first team I'm left with same dilemma over Young, Ireland, Mutch or whoever will be the fifth mid. Aaaaaaaaaaah the options.

      Like the defense actually. Won't go near Debuchy now [opting for an uber cheap defense with 1 6M+ DEF so more like can't go near Debuchy] but like him as a player. Not sold on O'Shea tbh-- van Aanholt [same team] is a full back & should earn attacking points. Might be worth a looksie.

      7/10. A tad too light at the back for me, and as you say with your subs. Good idea with 1mil itb 🙂
      Personally id downgrade hazard, as you have costa to pick up the points in chelsea games, and upgrade to a premium defender.

        Thanks, I'm going with Tom fenley's advice that it takes team to build an understanding and get clean sheets, so once my team value has grown ill get premium 2 defenders.

    Subs - Myhill - Ward - Bruce - Sigurdsson

    0.5 ITB for early season emergencys

    Begovic is a given and dont plan to use myhill.
    Hendo is a slight punt but he seems to be popping up with goals and seems good value at 6.
    Davies i dont think is 100% nailed but i expect him to shine this season. Ward to replace if needs be. Bruce is staying on the bench and Bojan looks like a decent early season punt with his pre season form and stokes fixtures schedule.

    Mata - Sigurdsson - Fabregas - Ramsey - Isgrove
    Rooney - Giroud - Diego Costa

    Planning to line up 3-4-3 with the occasional rotation depending on fixtures.

      GKS - 6/10 (personally going 1 big hitter)

      DEF - 4/10, lack of big hitters, too many around the 5,0 price. Would look for Chelsea in there.

      MID - 8.5/10 standard, I prefer puncheon over siggy, who is isgrove?

      FWD - 10/10 rest of team is a little weaker but that front line is orgasmic
