The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Green Windmill is keeping 1.0 in the bank to address any issue that may arise from the first week’s games or for a rainy day. Is he right to keep this back? He is also open to suggestions to improve his bench and wonders whether Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard may be a risk given his reduced pre-season. Could his team mate Cesc Fabregas be a better choice?

        Template would have Ramsey instead of Sanchez and a Chelsea defender. Haven't seen many, if any, with same defence as that. It's piss weak to be honest, but should get me through the first 10 weeks at least

      I like it but I'm unconvinced by Sanchez. Its not just the settling in to the Premier league part but he hasn't looked too fit in the Community Shield. Hasn't played more than 45 mins in a pre season game for Arsenal. You may have to suffer some early substitution agony from him.

      Otherwise I think its a good team.

      My back 7 is the exact same besides Moore instead of Ferdinand.Moore goes well with the rotation although you will hardly need him and saves .5

      Gks: find a rotating pair...and cheap!

      Not really keen on Cahill and Jones - too expensive. Chambers will only be a short term pick.

      No Hazard, Eriksen a concern here.

      Austin-a waste of a third striker spot.

      I'd remove the expensive defenders and get Haz and Erik in ASAP.

      It is a pretty good team.
      A little too much in defense. I would start without Azpi until you know for sure who is starting for Chelsea. Azpi/ ward could easily be 4.5

      Some expensive defenders there with plenty of concerns. This is the anti-uber defence designed to get right up my nose.

      Boot them and get Erik and Mata in ASAP.

      I like this team. Good balance. I've done something similar. Only thing is Azpi is not nailed on, and I feel one of Terry/Cahill is more nailed on in the short term. Also you'll have to keep in mind that in a few weeks with Aguero back one of Jovetic or Dzeko will probably lose their place so planning an exit strategy might be a good idea.

    - 2x 4.0 is weak but by game week 4 will only have one of them.
    -Watching Bartly if Swansea dont sign anyone.

      DDG - too expensive. Find a cheap rotating pair.

      Chambers only short term and Austin will do nothing. He should be Jecko/Remy.

        Cheers Jafa. Kind of agree on DDG. Many gone for the SUND/NEW gk rotation but if you look at the actual fixtures they are not tht good. Might go Bego and a 4.0 then upgrade defense.

          Newcastle/West Brom gets you through the first 17 Gameweeks without having to face a side tougher than Southampton or Swansea away.

      Defence a bit too risky for my liking with all those transfer plans - if someone else on your team gets injured you may be in trouble. Would go for Moore and Duff over Hutton and Wisdom just because I think Hutton and Wisdom will struggle long-term for starts.

        Cheers joe, i would be happy to have Marrippa/Kelly/Stoke 4.5 in there over Chambers from the start, just dont know who will start. If any thing is said pre deadline i will do so. Thanks for input. Hutton is there for weeks 2 and 3 really, Moore is great option for my 'non playing' 5th

      I don't see United keeping many clean sheets with a defence of Jones, Smalling, Hinge and Bracket. Young is no spring chicken anymore, either.

      I don't agree with the 'DDG will keep clean sheets philosophy' simply because United will mostly have Shaw (definitely, for a month), Rafael (definitely), Valencia (maybe), and Evans (maybe) out. Young is not that great a wing back when it comes to tracking back. Keeping this in mind I think United will have less clean sheets but score a lot of goals in their first 8ish fixtures. So DDG might get you a lot of save points but I dunno about clean sheets.

          Yeah you could do! I like Ramsey but that's certainly a good option if you think Eriksen is a better pick.

    does anyone have anything to say over Pelle, the Southampton forward, I'm really leaning towards him as a cheap effective forward paired with Costa. His goalscoring record at Feyenord was incredible, 55 in 66 and he is working with the same manager at Southampton... but I'm worried that it's too much of a risk... I would be overjoyed if anyone had any thoughts.... or if there were any other cheap forwards >9mil.

      He does have a good record but still untested in the PL and Southampton's supporting cast doesn't look nearly as strong as last year. Under 9m you could get Jovetic/Dzeko, Bony or Giroud, all of whom I think are safer bets - you can always switch down to Pelle if he catches fire.

      assuming ur going for a 343 starting lineup of i have to say that team looks good... not too many complaints except your defence looks slightly weak, Terry looks good but everyone else seems a bit anonymous so I would try and even the budget out and invest more in your defense.

      What does A,B and C mean?

      Bench? I think there are better options than Barkley and Rodwell is too defensive to net you many points. I would go van Aanholt over Williamson and I think Richardson is listed as a midfielder? Or am I thinking of the wrong one?

        Sorry to sound a newb but bench? I presume you mean who I would play if somebody was injured who would you play instead of Barkley - I could put sterling in there and have a cheap midfielder

          Yeah okay, which game are you playing? It's just that on Fantasy Premier League he is listed as a midfielder so you can't include him in your defence. Yeah sorry I just meant to ask who your other four (bench) players are.

          Yes I would swap him to Sigurdsson or, if you are able, to Sterling/Mata, yes.

    finally have a midfield of ramsey, mata and hazard and need 2 more with a budget of 17 mil. Which combo should I go for

    a) yaya toure and sigurdsson
    b) coutinho and eriksen
    c) tadic and fabregas

          I just think he is less injury-prone than Coutinho and possibly will play further forward. Rodgers has been pretty effusive in his praise of Sterling over the last couple of months.

          I agree with this.Sterling is a better fantasy prospect than Coutinho. Coutinho usually gets the assist to the assist and has a lot of wayward shots. Sterling looked lethal whenever he played last season and in pre season, and with Suarezgone is now a starter. And that is a crazy midfield if you can squeeze in these 5.

    Tentative plan is to downgrade Cahill to Clyne after a couple of weeks in order to upgrade Eriksen to another premium midfielder. I'd really like to squeeze in Ramsey at the start, but struggling to find a good way to do so...

        That's certainly one option, and perhaps the most painless one, but I'd rather hang on to Hazard for the long run if possible.

      Strong team. The only way I can see you fitting in Ramsey from the start is by changing Hazard to Fabregas. I prefer Moore and Duff over Wisdom and Hutton as I feel they are more nailed.

      No nothing major, I don't like Kolarov in FPL terms because he never seems nailed on. Schürrle and Chambers are gambles as I am sure you know. Nice team!

        Thanks! Yeah, Chambers is only for a week or two then I'll shift to some other 4.5 who's looking good. Shurrle should get some time (I hope) and I will then use the 1.0 in the bank to upgrade him!

      Only thing I've noticed is no Arsenal mids/forwards, although that's not necessarily a problem. Looks solid apart from that. I had a look on Man City message boards and they seem to think Kolarov will start.

        I've considered that.. Tried fitting Ramsey in but it means getting rid of Shurrle (who I am adamant about taking a punt on in the first few weeks) or Kolarov / Terry (who I also want to have)..

            Ah okay, thanks. Have gone Ward ---> Kelly (will he start?), Clyne ---> Chester and Siggy ---> Davis to upgrade Dzeko to Costa.

            Is that better? Just not sure where I could get all the extra money to upgrade Austin to Costa if I keep Dzeko.

      I am staying away from Debuchy for the first few weeks (even though I know he's good value for money). I will probably get him later on!

      I am also staying away from Southampton defenders even though I think Clyne is an amazing player. There have been so many changes in their defence, which means they haven't had time to adjust to playing together.

      I'd say it's a pretty decent 3-5-2! Have you considered Young instead of Henderson for the first few weeks?

    Thanks for all the help above. Decided that you are all right DDG too much and not good value in that defense. Happy to play Bego every week, by the end of the season his total will not be miles off the top keeper

      Depends how much you want yaya. A lot of money in him to upgrade defence. Who is your 5th mid? Id say strikers a tad weak for me personally. You need two of Rooney Costa and Sturridge for me as great captain options too.

      good effort with the team but ive got a few niggles.

      1. David Silva - Class player irl but he wont get too many fantasy league points because he doesnt score that much. He's a great player but I don't think he is suited to the fantasy league game because you want goal scoring midfielders which he is not.. I would replace him with ramsey/hazard/eriksen or anyone else who will score goals for their club.

      2. Alexis Sanchez - Controversial but I think he will take a few games to get into the swing of it. He will not play striker for the first few games at least unlike what everyone thinks... wenger says he will play on the wing until walcott is fit again but for an arsenal player I rate ramsey who is cheaper and more proven in the BPL.

      3. Kolarov - Simply because there is a battle between Clichy and Kolarov at Man City and you never know who will start the game making him too much of a risk.

      Everyone else looks really good but these points in my opinion could be improved

        1. I thought I needed Silva, he looked lively in the second half of the CS and has been very consistent over the years in FPL.

        2. I have doubts about Sanchez but if he hrs the ground running, I'll gave trouble finding 1.5m to bring him in. I can always downgrade him to Ramsey though.

        3. Kolarov is risky agreed. But he's also a one week punt. I'll bring in a Utd or Chelsea defender in week 2. This is just to avid Siggy playing a Utd defender.

      Is that the formation you're going with? 3-4-3

      If so your front 3 could do with an upgrade. Maybe downgrade Terry to Caulker or Lovren to Caulker and find another 0.5m elsewhere and upgrade Giroud to Costa

    Any advice? I know that defense is a bit weak but I have never been a fan of super expensive back lines.

    I am toying with:

    A) Remy, Moore, van Aanholt, Luis -> Cahill, Debuchy, Davies, Naismith (any love for Naismith)
    B) Remy, Moore, van Aanholt -> Debuchy, Davies, Bojan
    C) Remy, Moore, van Aanholt -> Debucy, Lovern, Naismith

    I am lost on what to do! Any help!
