The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Green Windmill is keeping 1.0 in the bank to address any issue that may arise from the first week’s games or for a rainy day. Is he right to keep this back? He is also open to suggestions to improve his bench and wonders whether Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard may be a risk given his reduced pre-season. Could his team mate Cesc Fabregas be a better choice?

      Strong midfield, punting on Young instead of Mata could turn out good.

    I have got a pretty strong defense IMO, after I decided to downgrade Hendo ➡ Davis.
    Siggy and Davis rotates beautifully from GW 4 and on, is it worth it to wait that long? Siggy will play G2 and GW3 for me anyway?

      Looks good, though Remy is not worth it at a price of 7.5M when he's not on set-piece duties.
      Don't rate the Fab pick myself, but could be a good pick. Chambers will only start GW1 most likely,same with Wisdom.

        I know and its driving me crazy. Maybe just give up on Azpi and get a couple of 5.0ers. Clyne and Ward?

      Just go with DDG + 4.0 you will be playing ddg every week anyway.
      Would not count on azpi starting on monday, maybe azpi>luis or upgrade to cahill/terry.
      Good midfielders would do silva > fab but im a chelsea fan so might be colored.
      Good strikers.

            He's not played more than 45 minutes in any presason game, wouldn't be surprised if it's a couple of weeks until he is guaranteed starts. He will end up no.1 fullback, but not guaranteed to be straight away.

            But there was a reason azpi did not play lb vs real sociedad. Nathan ake started first 45 and then luis, this convinced me that luis will start.

      I'm not a fan of your defence mate. Too much uncertainty over whether they will start GW1. Only consider defenders you know are nailed on. At least keep the risks to a bare minimum.

      I have no City and I'm a City fan.
      I'm waiting for Aguero and the fixtures to ease up as we have some difficult games early on. Half the team aren't even fit so I wouldn't imagine we'll be tearing it up early on. Keeping a watchful eye on them though

      A lot of your budget on the defence so it is strong. You could downgrade Baines(difficult fixtures) and then get Hazard and Mata who'll score more points than Baines

      From what I've seen most teams have Costa and/or Sturridge so I'd try and one of them in with Rooney. I'm unsure about City scoring goals early on until the full team is fully fit (have unfavourable fixtures apart from Stoke in first 3 GW)

      For me it's either your front 3 and a weaker midfield or a stronger midfield and a Bojan. Depends on your thoughts. Personally I've gone for Campbell upfront and a strong midfield

      Think its a good starting team but you may have to take a few point hits if some of your players (Chambers, wisdom, Aluko, Young) are dropped to the bench early. Just because aluko will be playing upfront doesnt mean he will get goals. Altidore played upfront loads last season and got 1 goal

    Ok guys, here’s my final draft team.

    Krul/Foster
    Chester/Wilson/Ferdinand/Taylor/Yoshida (UBER defense)
    Eriksen/Hazard/Mata/Ramsey(c)/Mutch
    Diego Costa/Rooney(v)/Wickham

    Yes I will be brave and play the UBER defense and upgrade with bighitters after GW18. I am aware that the result of this tactic is that the squad is a bit out of balance but happy to live with that up until the winter. The only thing that worries me though in the current squad is getting into Stoke’s defense for 4.5m particularly because i want a secure start in GW1. What are your thoughts on Cameron/Wilson etc. Any final suggestions how to improve/deal with the Wilson issue? Again, your feedback is much appreciated!

      Liking the Wickham choice, though be wary if he's being linked with other clubs. Midfield is strong, but as you probably know the defence isnt the strongest, ferdinand wont be able to play every week. I went for Cameron initially in my squad but bottled it because i dont feel neither cameron or wilson are nailed on, maybe worth waiting til after their first game to see who plays?

        Thanks! Fast as always. Thinking about it, the issue could be solved by swapping Wilson for Chambers in GW1 and then transferring Chambers out after the first/second gameweek when there is more clarity on who’s playing. Smart thinking?

      The defence could do with a bit of tinkering, Bruce may not be starting (use the extra 0.5 to get Chester?). Also Debuchy put me off with the amount of cards he receives, but could bring about decent attacking returns. Also I dont think cameron is quite ready to start the first game.
      Otherwise, looks like a solid team in other areas.

      Got the same back 3, agree that chambers is a risk but should definitely play the first week and then can be transfered out. Never been a fan of Bojan but the midfield just looks too good to downgrade.

        Naismith should start GW1 with Lukaku and Kone injured/not ready.. So if he scores against Leicester then I have a price rise from all those ditching Bojan for someone who might actually score 😉 (oooh...)

          I really fancy Kelly to be good value at Palace, Naughton however is less secure.. I really don't want any New/Sun/Bur/Lei/wba defenders though as they won't keep many clean sheets and when they do it will be unpredictable..

          Maybe Van Aanholt as a default choice but it's so uninspiring.. 😐

          You'll likely have to lose a heavy hitter. if you dont fancy that, look for a decent 3/4 way rotation. And ditch Chambers. You'll need nailed on defenders. You dont want that defence and be a man down in a week or two

      I'd keep Mata ahead of Fab. Purely because Chelsea are away and will probably will win 2-0. Mata at home will get something. Utd probably will win 3-0. If it goes tits up you can always swap them. Burnley won't make it easy for Chelsea.

      I'd do Mata in for fabregas - you've plenty Chelsea cover with Costa, Cahill. Man U fixtures are better and Mata will play no 10. Plus he's on form.

    This team good to start? The four cheapies rotate very well. I only have a few remaining questions.
    1. Terry or Cahill?
    2. Henderson or Young? This spot is tough, I am keeping it for De Jong or Tadic if I downgrade any of the big front 3.

    Happy with what I think my final team!! Any tips or modifications? Yes i know Jovetic had Dzeko but hasent done anything good in preseason. Jov is a beast aswell
