The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

A Chelsea defender is a must for Evs, should he downgrade Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and get a 6m Chelsea defender or downgrade Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to his team mate Aaron Ramsey to give himself 6.5m to spend.

Recently Tottenham’s Ben Davies had been ousted from his team, as again uncertainty with Danny Rose continues. Which is the best route into the Tottenham defence? Stevan Jovetic is a short term punt. Who should he replace him with should he fail to cement a place in Manchester City’s starting XI?

      My front 8 is very similar, only change is Yaya instead of Mata to get some City coverage. Resulted in a slight downgrade of defence but I think Yaya is essential

    1.5 in the bank to jump on early bandwagons (upgrade El Ahmadi/Bojan, most likely).

        Thanks. I actually made a slight mistake though, it's Hutton rather than Ward. Ward in would only leave 0.5 in the bank.

      very similar to mine - quite envious of your bank balance which could serve you well in the early stages. Palace and QPR rotate well for the first few weeks so I would upgrade chester to caulker or ferdinand

        Thanks for that rotation tip, will take a look. Is 2 x 5.0 a bit expensive for rotating though?

        Also I got the bank balance wrong, it's only 0.5.

          I dont think that rotating 2x 5.0 is such a bad idea. The price suggests a few more points over the course of the season which is what it's all about.

    My concerns:
    - starting with triple Arsenal players, if they flop (while it looks unlikely atm) I'm gonna have a bad time
    - Sánchez.. should I go with e.g. Ramsey or Touré instead?
    - no Chelsea defense, since there are so many question marks there

      forwards seem a bit lightweight and if you want a premium forward you'll have to shift the whole team around to get them - just my two pence worth

        Yep that's a good suggestion. I don't think I'm willing to give up Hazard, though, I'm thinking I'm going to be strapping the armband on him frequently, not so sure Fábregas is as good for that.

      Your defence needs some work. Courtois, Chambers, Bartley are not nailed. Evans is injured.

        Courtouis or Cech will not change all season for me so I'll start with Courtouis and change to Cech in gameweek 2 if I need too.

        Chambers is in for gameweek 1 and I have plenty of time to get him out as I'll play Terry Jones and Naylor for gameweeks 2 and 3.

        I've had Bartley as a bit of a punt should play and has good fixtures. Id rather gamble on him with the security of Terry Jones and Naylor than have a 4.0 because Moore duff and Hutton all have bad fixtures to start with. If he doesn't play I'll look to put one of these in when their fixtures pick up.

        I've changed Evans for jones.

            I'm fairly certain courtouis will be no.1 don't see why they'd bring back the best young keeper in the world and put him on the bench. He's also out of contract soon, so by giving cech a couple more years they will risk losing a player who will be the beat in the world for over a decade on a free.

    Am I in trouble for not having Rambo? Only have room for one 9m midfielder atm and I really think Mata is going to explode for the first couple of months.

      Having Giroud could help cover the lack of Ramsey. But Ramsey looks good, him and Rooney are the only players I haven't removed from a draft yet!

    Lads- Eriksen or Lamela? Obviously Eriksen takes set pieces and got points last season, but Lamela is likely to play in a more attacking role; underneath the striker, and has seemed to have had the better preseason? Thoughts? And any knowledge on game time?

      He could be a good preseason punt, but I won't be convinced till I see him playing well in the prem. I'd prefer to go for Eriksen or for 0.5 more, Sterling.

      I really would go for Ramsey instead of Sanchez. Ramsey looked ready to go in the Charity Shield and Sanchez just didn't. Luis probably isn't nailed on, and it might be worth waiting on Kelly to see if he's a guaranteed starter or not.

      I have B (with Ward on the bench for GW1), so B. Chambers won't be nailed on for too long I don't think, and despite Man U's good fixtures, their defense is depleted with injuries. Glad to see I'm not crazy and some else is taking Terry over Cahill for now too

      Apparently Lamela will play "in the hole" so I'd expect him to do well. I don't think you can really lose with either one, although I've gone for Lamela as a differential as I think he'll outscore Eriksen.

      Decent setup. But I dont fully agree on your choices. Not sure about Coutinho and Young. I would get cheaper defense and keeper choices and go with Sterling and Hazard. And maybe swap Fabregas for Mata after GW6.

      I like it. Watch out for young once he gets dropped. Lovren maybe not a great pick to start with due to liverpools fixtures but going forward a good shout

      In my opinion wouldn't get enough clean sheets between them to justify not having DDG/Beg on a permanant basis.

    Which would you do:

    A) Dzeko > Sturridge + Fab > Siggy
    B) Dzeko > Sturridge + downgrade 3 of the defenders to 4.5m's
