Welcome to our annual attempt to pick the best and worst options in the Fantasy Premier League game and assess how the forthcoming Premier League season will shape up.

As usual many of  our last season predictions proved to be terrible.

Among the worst of our predictions was Mark’s assertion that Andreas Weimann would be the best differential and highest scoring budget forward in FPL and Paul’s belief that Roberto Soldado would finish the year as top Premier League goal scorer.

My forecast that Kolo Toure would be the best budget defender and Crystal Palace would be relegated proved equally embarrassing.

Applebonkers was also left with egg on his face by labelling Hull defender Curtis Davies as the worst signing of 2013/14, while Granville’s optimism that Iago Aspas would be the best differential in FPL was another of our top clangers.

There were some predictions we nailed, though. Evs correctly reckoned Southampton would overachieve, while Fulham would falter. Andy and Mark can also feel pleased for themselves for correctly naming Seamus Coleman as the best budget defender in FPL last season.

Hopefully we shall all do better with this series of predictions for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

Is anyone going with Caulker over Ward? The first fixture is tempting me.

I've been struggling to pick a mid to leave out and have gone with...

    Alexis Sanchez, because...

CPL, eve, lei, MCI, avl, TOT, che

    Arsenal have tough-ish opening fixtures.
I think Ramsey is great value, and I don't want to double up.

If Alexis is slow to adjust to these fixtures, his high ownership and high price is likely to result in a price drop IF he doesn't hit the ground running. I can then pounce in GW8 when things come together? 🙂

    Sound like a plan? 😎

I think so. Not sure where across the back line though. I'm not sure why he'd leave Liverpool or why Palace would let defenders leave earlier in the summer, if Kelly isn't a starter.

A lot of Utd fans seem to think you'll walk back into the top 4 and even challenge for the title this year. I'd be very surprised if that happens. Herrera is a good addition but you've lost Vidic, Evra and Ferdinand who were key experienced players in your defence.

4th would be an excellent season for you imo.

There's no doubt we'll be back in the top 4. Silly to suggest otherwise. Keep in mind that LVG has only just decided who's out and what he needs in. So there will be new faces yet. I see us in the 2-3 range but am not ruling out a push for the title. Smalling and Evans are ready to replace Vidic and Rio(who's been pants for a few years now) and are both criminally underrated. I wish we'd kept Evra as he'd be brilliant in our current system. But we'll be fine there. Lots of experience still in the squad.

I can see Swansea Stuggling this season under Garry Monk. my rule is never ever put the caretaker manager in charge. Here are a few caretaker mangers who were given the job full time and failed.

    Les Reed
    Steve Wigley
    Chris Hutchings (Twice)
Kenny Dalglish (Was Caretaker manager after Hodgson)
    Steve Kean
    Sammy Lee
    Roberto Di Matteo
    Terry Connor
