Welcome to our annual attempt to pick the best and worst options in the Fantasy Premier League game and assess how the forthcoming Premier League season will shape up.

As usual many of  our last season predictions proved to be terrible.

Among the worst of our predictions was Mark’s assertion that Andreas Weimann would be the best differential and highest scoring budget forward in FPL and Paul’s belief that Roberto Soldado would finish the year as top Premier League goal scorer.

My forecast that Kolo Toure would be the best budget defender and Crystal Palace would be relegated proved equally embarrassing.

Applebonkers was also left with egg on his face by labelling Hull defender Curtis Davies as the worst signing of 2013/14, while Granville’s optimism that Iago Aspas would be the best differential in FPL was another of our top clangers.

There were some predictions we nailed, though. Evs correctly reckoned Southampton would overachieve, while Fulham would falter. Andy and Mark can also feel pleased for themselves for correctly naming Seamus Coleman as the best budget defender in FPL last season.

Hopefully we shall all do better with this series of predictions for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

but Suarez was essential to everything, 31 goals, most shots per game with 5.5, second highest assists with 12, second highest number of dribbles with 2.8 a match

I agree he was very important.

Brendan will change the tactics to get more from the midfield this time - also expect more clean sheets in other words I can see pool scoring less but also conceding less as well.

You still need an impact signing. Be it Cavani, Isco, etc... Someone of that ilk. You also had no Europe to contend with last season.

People keep using the no europe excuse but i can't see how its helped anybody else (Spurs for instance) to break into the top 4.

Liverpool also had a small squad with barely no depth (although granted they were lucky with injuries)

What are your suggested changes for this squad...

    Krul (Myhill)
    Lovren Cahill Debuchy Ferdinand (Wisdom)
    Fabregas Barkley Ramsey Coutinho (Ince)
    Costa Rooney (Bojan)

Am I missing any obvious bargains? How could I afford another decent striker without upsetting the midfield? I have .5 to play with.

Is there a better player than bojan for that price? Even up to 7.5 million I cant see a player that much better than him? Coutinho's pre season is making me nervous about leaving him out... I would consider downgrading a defender but only if I could find an alternative to bojan

What's happening with Speroni? Can we trust him to start? I've heard a lot of murmurings from Palace fans that Hennesy may oust him at some point.

Saints not to bad for the season ahead
    Long>Lambert
    Tadic>Lallana
    Bertrand=Shaw
    Clyne=Chambers

Only problem is Lovren.. cant see the new signing being as influencial
But Pelle and Forster is a huge plus

How in God's name is Bertrand equal to Shaw? The Clyne and Chambers comparison is irrelevant anyway as they had them both to begin with and Chambers can play CB as well.

The best chambers can do is give you 4 clean sheet points. You are basically just giving away his points with a hit. And that is the best case scenario.

Even if you're not taking a hit, it is in fact equivalent to it if you think long term

Interesting way of looking at it. Your saying if I put a southampton defender in and forgo an arguable 6 points. Gamble on a 2 point for say clyne (he may get 0) then I would only lose 4 points
But in keeping my transfer it will give me:
        1 more options
2 less headaches if there is an emergency/injury elsewhere in the team which will then cost me additional 4 points anyway to get clyne.

I think I will risk chambers as MC said above he might even keep his place.

Who to captain from Rooney, Costa, Sturridge, Mata and Ramsey. Tough call.
I guess most will be going with Rooney ( SWA) but it's the early game and I hate having my captain play early.
Costa away to Burnley on Monday seems a bit of a reach but could come off.
Sturridge (SOU) play early on Sunday. I think I may go with him and watch from behind the Sofa.

    a) Sterling
    b) Ramsey
