Welcome to our annual attempt to pick the best and worst options in the Fantasy Premier League game and assess how the forthcoming Premier League season will shape up.

As usual many of  our last season predictions proved to be terrible.

Among the worst of our predictions was Mark’s assertion that Andreas Weimann would be the best differential and highest scoring budget forward in FPL and Paul’s belief that Roberto Soldado would finish the year as top Premier League goal scorer.

My forecast that Kolo Toure would be the best budget defender and Crystal Palace would be relegated proved equally embarrassing.

Applebonkers was also left with egg on his face by labelling Hull defender Curtis Davies as the worst signing of 2013/14, while Granville’s optimism that Iago Aspas would be the best differential in FPL was another of our top clangers.

There were some predictions we nailed, though. Evs correctly reckoned Southampton would overachieve, while Fulham would falter. Andy and Mark can also feel pleased for themselves for correctly naming Seamus Coleman as the best budget defender in FPL last season.

Hopefully we shall all do better with this series of predictions for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

Interesting for anyone crazy enough to go for Darren Bent.

£5.0 and looking likely to start (plus a decent few fixtures to capitalise on). If you've gone for a 5man midfield, maybe this will be useful info.

Personally, I say big up top and forget these budget options though.

Is Hutton really nailed on? If so, surely his attacking possibility and Leicester's horrific opening fixtures make him better than Moore as the 4.0m def?

I think he means Moore was first choice last season and once the fixtures clear up he becomes someone that you don't dread featuring occassionally but Hutton has been unwanted for 2 seasons now so might see Bacuna or Lowton eventually take his place.

depends if Monk plays Gomis up top alongside Bony or on the wing flanking him. I'd say it's a tough call but my gut says Siggy will play in the hole because 4-4-2 is rare these days

I'd rather play Burnley over Swansea anyday, Burnley might be good but 1st EPL match after promotion is always tough.

Is Reece James a viable option for the first few GWs with Shaw out for a month? Downgrading Jones to him would give me some extra cash to play with.

The problem is that Valencia's return would likely drop James too (Valencia RWB and Young LWB).

Blackett guaranteed starts until Evans gets back?

So the question now is who will be back first, Evans or Valencia? 😆

Pretty much especially with carrick out, plus blackett is very highly rated by van gaal so if he impresses he may steal the spot (might only have 1 match though)!

They both could comeback for the match for all we know :/

I'd say Blackett is likely to get sub time atleast even with Evans fit.

I took Foster out of my Krul/Foster rotation and replaced him with Begovic.

It meant downgrading Sterling to Coutinho.

I feel good about my decision. I plan to stick with it.

Brave move to Coutinho. I'd have probably been tempted into a similar move if Coutinho hadn't burnt me badly at the beginning of last season.

Coutinho's the kinda player who you can see having a breakout season this year playing in the hole behind Sturridge.

Then again that's no guarantee and he's also the kinda player who Rodgers will take off after 70 minutes

The other option was putting back Henderson, but then I'd have 2 ducats burning a hole in my pocket.

And then I'd be tempted to take out Ramsey and put Sanchez back.

Or I'd be tempted to take out Fabregas and put Hazard in.

No, no, the old Cout is keeping me honest.
