The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

A Chelsea defender is a must for Evs, should he downgrade Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and get a 6m Chelsea defender or downgrade Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to his team mate Aaron Ramsey to give himself 6.5m to spend.

Recently Tottenham’s Ben Davies had been ousted from his team, as again uncertainty with Danny Rose continues. Which is the best route into the Tottenham defence? Stevan Jovetic is a short term punt. Who should he replace him with should he fail to cement a place in Manchester City’s starting XI?

      Decent team but I wouldn't bother with rotating Davis, personally. I'd have Young over Mutch, as well. Rest looks cool though.

        If I do that, I'd have to downgrade one of Jones/Mata as I can't have all 3. Tempted to upgrade Mata but would still need the additional 0.5 for Hazard

    Would appreciate a couple of comments on my current team, which has shifted quite a bit over the past day or so:

    De Gea (Krul)
    Davies, Debuchy, Lovren (Caulker, Vlaar)
    Fabregas, Mata, Siggurdson, Ramsey (Rodwell)
    Rooney, Bojan, Diego Costa

    Concern is Rodwell, and perhaps the defence. But not sure where to trim in order to improve them (if it is actually necessary).

    Any suggestions would be good, even if it is just a better 4.5m mid or a better 4m GK.

        Thanks, I can't see Poch starting Rose ahead of him. Not after such a long transfer battle. Also I can't get a better 5m defender unless I gamble on Naughton but that will be very short term.

          Rose was significantly better - they both played 45 mins, Rose starting. I dropped Davies as a result, but you might be right!

        Yeah but i can't find a way to slot in a liverpool player and Jovetic is all i can offer. gonna try it out on jovetic and hope he comes good. liverpool fixtures aren't fantastic and hoping without suarez they ain't got bite.

      Think vulnerable without Chelsea defence; I've gone for El A too, looks best of a bad lot, though as I say in my post below I'd be tempted for 5.0 and Brady.
      Sterling at 8.5 I think is a bit unproven. The class of some of the others in that bracket makes him a risk.

      Is the money for Rio sensible? Ropey QPR team likely to get pounded, Rio's never been big on points at the other end. Think Ward from Palace better at that price point

    Also - why is no-one talking about Brady at 5.0 or Jelavic at 6.0 for Hull? Brady on pens looks like a decent cheap access to some easy fixtures, Jelavic will surely get the majority of the service and without Long is unrotatable. Have I missed something?

    Also, why so much love for Jovetic over Giroud? Giroud looks decent value at 8.5 and went off like a train last season when supplied...

      I think Jovetic is just City representation - nobody wants to miss out if they pick up form from the shield.

      Agree re Jelavic - if you can free up the money upgrading Bojan worthwhile. Could downgrade Lovren? Tough run of fixtures.

    Okay, after the double disaster of Kosc/Evans' fitness ruining my defence, I think I'm settling on this. Suggestions welcomed.

    I've got a good feeling about Pellè so I'm tempted to swap Jov for him after week one. Or basically any player under 8 mil who shows good early promise.

    I don't usually go for 'coverage' but I'll likely bring in Ramsey some point in the future. I just have a weird feeling that both Mata and Eriksen might outscore him this year. Probably way off the mark, but I need to justify excluding him to myself. 😉

    So Jov for Week 1 then out for Week 2 (providing he doesn't blast in a hat trick, of course...)?

      But in all seriousness, I wouldn't double up on either. If I had to pick two of those, I'd go for Luis and Kolarov. But there's just too much rotation risk there at the mo.

      No doubt they'll pick up points, but I'd wait and see how the first fixtures go before getting any of those defenders.

          Well I had to cut Hazard down to Ramsey to upgrade my defence to Cahill/Debuchy.

          Don't have enough for Yaya for the same reason. (playing 3-4-3 btw)

          Don't really rate Sturridge over Rooney, Costa and Giroud upfront.

      Courtois not nailed on. Not sure about Debuchy, seems like clean sheets might be hard to come by with Arsenals fixtures at the beginning. He's an option after a few GWs for me.

        so maybe Caulker to Ferdinand and/or Clyne to Yoshida? 5 mil for a defender in a newly promoted side might well be a bit too much, even with his decent attacking potential...

        Thanks for the response. Perhaps I have looked at it too long, but cannot see the need to redo. I lean towards PVA also. Will keep him. Need to go with one of the two forwards, as they seem most capable for points at the 5.5 range.
