Welcome to our annual attempt to pick the best and worst options in the Fantasy Premier League game and assess how the forthcoming Premier League season will shape up.

As usual many of  our last season predictions proved to be terrible.

Among the worst of our predictions was Mark’s assertion that Andreas Weimann would be the best differential and highest scoring budget forward in FPL and Paul’s belief that Roberto Soldado would finish the year as top Premier League goal scorer.

My forecast that Kolo Toure would be the best budget defender and Crystal Palace would be relegated proved equally embarrassing.

Applebonkers was also left with egg on his face by labelling Hull defender Curtis Davies as the worst signing of 2013/14, while Granville’s optimism that Iago Aspas would be the best differential in FPL was another of our top clangers.

There were some predictions we nailed, though. Evs correctly reckoned Southampton would overachieve, while Fulham would falter. Andy and Mark can also feel pleased for themselves for correctly naming Seamus Coleman as the best budget defender in FPL last season.

Hopefully we shall all do better with this series of predictions for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

Any thoughts on this? Has taken much deliberation. Chambers is a short term option I think but worth it as much as any cheap defender for first few weeks.

Double arsenal week one. Chambers is short term and they are home to (manager less?) palace. Gym to take a punt on Luis. Weighed up him and azpi and settled on Luis. I'll regret no Chelsea defender.

Ben Dinnery, a fairly good injury specialist on Twitter reckons weeks to a month. Some peripheral info: Musacchio can play RB as well as CB. So that's a risk to Naughton.

It's hard enough picking 15 players, never mind 25. Saying that I've already signed up so I'd better get cracking with it really

I really need some help. Cannot make up my mind... Had Sanchez in my team but having Ramsey instead means my defence is stronger... urgh... Sigurdsson instead of Eriksen???

    De Gea / Myhill
    Ferdinand / Terry / Lovren / Hutton / Bruce
    Eriksen / Mata / Ramsey / Fabregas / Albrighton
    Rooney / Costa / Bojan

    Evening gents,

    Thoughts on this team?

    DDG, Gilks
Cahill, Caulker, C Davies, Coloccini, Moore
    Mata, Fabregas, Sigurdsson, Puncheon, Ramsey
    Rooney, Bojan, Costa

Worried about lack of Liverpool/City coverage.

    Any feedback much appreciated. Cheers!

I feel comfortable with my forwards, midfielders and goalkeeper and have options to change for similar £8m-£10m players like Sterling, Nasri, Silva and Hazard should any of them not be delivering. Begovic looks like a solid all season pick and goalkeeper points don’t spread so much compared to outfield players.

My concern is the defence. I worry that picking either Luis or Azpilicueta could backfire are one of these two is at risk of not starting in and at £6m it feels like a gamble. I also have a concern about Man Utd’s defence plus Liverpool’s tough games in the first 6 GW's.

Therefore I think the best teams for defence will be Stoke, Hull, Southampton and WBA in terms of reasonable fixtures and slightly cheaper players in the first few GW's.

    Begovic ~ Myhill
    C Davies ~ Cameron ~ James ~ Clyne ~ Wisdom
    Eriksen ~ Ramsey ~ Sigurdsson ~ Fabregas ~ Mata
    Costa ~ Rooney ~ Bojan

Thoughts welcome on my logic and team.

    Thank you

Hazard or sanchez?!?! So hard, I already have fab and costa and Ramsey.
Arsenal will get goals against manager less cpl but 3 Chelsea players against burnley and Leicester is hard to resist

Not sure about the golden boot not playing for Chelsea anyway and with Hazard with the PK honours 15-20 goals though.

    Guys, would you rather...

    A) Lovren + Fabregas + Sturridge (No Lpool cover, No other Chelsea)

    B) Cahill + Ramsey + Diego Costa (No other Chelsea than those mentioned + Giroud upfront)
