The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

A Chelsea defender is a must for Evs, should he downgrade Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and get a 6m Chelsea defender or downgrade Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to his team mate Aaron Ramsey to give himself 6.5m to spend.

Recently Tottenham’s Ben Davies had been ousted from his team, as again uncertainty with Danny Rose continues. Which is the best route into the Tottenham defence? Stevan Jovetic is a short term punt. Who should he replace him with should he fail to cement a place in Manchester City’s starting XI?

      I think its useless to have 5 good midfielders so you better use that 1.5 mil to strengthen your attack

    The case for cheap points.

    Nearly every RMT shows an abundance of cash spent on the midfield and strikers, with the goal being to be as cheap as you dare in defence.

    I find this to be a bad idea for a few reasons.

    1. Look at last year's top scorers on the first page of transfers. 9 defenders, 8 mids, 9 strikers. The defender's points are not that far off those of the strikers, yet look at the prices.

    When we have only 100m to spend, isn't it sensible to secure the cheap points? It is not hard to predict which teams/players will finish high up again, so get three or four of them and enjoy the 6-9 pt clean sheets.

    Once you have 110m then you can go nuts with the top players.

    2. Transfers are precious. Do you really want to spend the first month sorting out your non-functioning defence? Players dropped, never selected, leaking goals...

    Better off using the early transfers to chase the bandwagons and build team value.

    3. The wildcard is to be protected. If your defence is proving to be a problem plus you just have to make changes in the attacking areas (because we know we will have to), then it just leads to the international break WC. Plus no matter how much we hope, you don't make much cash playing the market in those periods.

    4. Remember last year? Do you recall trailing to your mini league casuals for weeks? Because they chose big name defenders and reaped the rewards of the new bonus system. Well it's going to happen again if you persist with your uber rotations. More bonus for wide players we think. So full backs could be as essential as CBs were then.

    So I've set my stall out with three big defenders, which hopefully I won't need to change other than for injury or suspension. Sure it means a bit less cash up top, but I have a nice three way mid price rotation in mid/att and personally I feel my team looks just as potent as those galatico teams.

      These are good points! sitting on Terry and Clyne + funds atm, allowing me to be somewhat flexible. tried one of these uber-rotation strats with 5 cheap ones...looks good on paper, perhaps not so much in reality.

    1) Krul -> De Gea
    2) Coutinho -> Fab
    3) Keep as is for flexibility (allows me to jump on bandwagons or reshuffle) -> my prefered option atm.

            Have to downgrade one of those four and upgrade at least two defenders. You have three who could easily not be on the pitch by week 3!

      Begovic is good.

      Defense- strong with Cahill and ward and caulker are both solid too. If you could squeeze a united defender in (jones then could help you) but I think you will be ok. I prefer Hutton to Taylor.

      Midfield- spent too much. I would downgrade either eriksen or sterling to someone like siggy or snoddy . That will give you up to 2.5m to invest I to upgrading scorecards.

      Up top - use that 2.5 m to buy someone like adebayour over long. (if you drop eriksen) or dzeko or giroud...... Not keen on long but that is only my opinion.....

      Looking good though.

      Great defence.

      I am not keen on arnautovic, he wasn't started last pre season game which worries me. Downgrade him to Ashley young so you have Man U cover in midfield. Other than that I think your looking good.

        Good team. Agree about Arnie, you could also downgrade him to a 4.5 and upgrade Austin to a 8.5 striker like Dzeko, Bony or Giroud

    Def = weak. Downgrade Sturbridge and invest some cash by upgrading Chester to Cahill. Put adebayour in maybe.....

    Mid= strong, no changes needed.

    Up top = to strong. Downgrade sturridge as it's affecting your defendce.

    Looks strong though.

        Nice - Bartley was a shot in the dark, 'cos it looks like Hutton's the only nailed on at 4.0...but it's Alan Hutton. Max he's gonna get me per week is 2 points. Ugh.
