The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

A Chelsea defender is a must for Evs, should he downgrade Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and get a 6m Chelsea defender or downgrade Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to his team mate Aaron Ramsey to give himself 6.5m to spend.

Recently Tottenham’s Ben Davies had been ousted from his team, as again uncertainty with Danny Rose continues. Which is the best route into the Tottenham defence? Stevan Jovetic is a short term punt. Who should he replace him with should he fail to cement a place in Manchester City’s starting XI?

    I couldn't decide on my front 8!!! at one stage it was:

    Hazard, Ramsey, Eriksen, Mata, Siggy
    Rooney, Costa, Austin
    this left 1mil to upgrade backline & id rotate siggy & Austin.
    if I went option 2 I could still get Cesc or Lamela over Mata... thoughts?

      Not sold on Rio - I think the QPR defence is a bit creaky and he's an injury risk. Also don't think Bent is going to play/score much.

      I'd look to drop Lamela too - not convinced you need him AND Eriksen.

      Austin/Bojan instead of Bent and you could upgrade Lamela > Sterling.

    Young out when Shaw returns, and maybe Terry > Luis if the latter weasels his way into the starting XI.

    What would you rather have as a MF?

    A) Hazard Mata Eriksen Albrighton TADIC

    B) Hazard Mata Eriksen Albrighton SIGGY + 1.5 ITB

    I'm really keen on Tadic, but starting the season without extra money ITB would scare me

      Yeah, I like the look of Tadic after GW1 too. But I think de Jong could also be a good shout for an affordable midfielder.

      For now I'd go with Siggy + £. You can always get Tadic later if he's flying.

          What about Cabella. Same price as Tadic and on PKs. I know you're not sold on NEW, but I think he's got a ton of potential for this season...

              Set Piece Takers page shows Cabella behind Ben Arfa on PKs. Obviously BArfa's not around..but maybe it hasn't been updated (although most of the others look like they have been and it's not like de Jong is a recent addition for NEW).

      Same as my midfield above (although with Isgrove instead of Siggy!), but cheaper defence to do Bojan > Jovetic and stronger goalies.

      Which is pretty much what I was thinking of doing. Hmmm.

      Worry you could have to make three quick subs if Chambers, Naughton and Isgrove don't okay much. I have Chambers to be fair but think he is a short term punt.

    Is it suicide to start with no Man City or Spurs coverage?

    I just can't seem to work any of them into my squad without dropping the quality significantly elsewhere...

        Going for Rooney/Costa/Bojan upfront, which I'm happy with.

        Tried to find a way to squeeze Silva or Nasri into my midfield, but I want to keep Mata, Ramsey and Fabregas and I'd have to decimate the defence to bring in Eriksen over Siggy or Young/Albrighton/Marney...

      I'd be worried at the back. Chambers not nailed-on, and your bench DEF not convincing for me. Young might be worth it for a little while, but be ready to shift him out early if necessary.

      Pieters not nailed, look at game time between him and Muniesa, last friendly Muniesa played more minutes.
      And if you're playing 3 at the back I'd have a 4.0 defender on the bench and splash the cash elsewhere
      Other than that I canny complain

      I'd side with B.

      Terry will keep more clean sheets than Debuchy, has kinder fixtures to start with and will pick up fewer yellows. Hazard also has an easier start than Sterling, but you'd be taking a punt on him finding form quickly.

        I second Kip's response. Great balance. Only (very) small criticism would be no Hazard or Fab, but I guess you've got Costa to pick up Chelsea points up front...

      I think the defence could do with some spending, the front 8 look great.

      Bruce and Cameron may struggle for games, and I don't know enough about Duff other than that he's cheap.

      You could downgrade Terry to a 5.0 or 5.5m defender and use the spare 1.0 or 1.5m to upgrade two other defenders to players that are nailed-on.

      Across Mid you look strong -
      Forward line has goals in it - Bojan is a bit of a punt but at that price - worth it!
