A new beginning. On the eve of a new campaign, two grumpy middle-aged has-beens gather in a studio to recall the summer’s feast of football and look ahead to another Fantasy season, full of hope.

There’s no frills. No live video cast. No special guests. Just Granville and I, stripped back and almost unplugged.

Don’t let that put you off, though. Even with our limited powers we at least attempt to cut through the issues currently rattling around in the minds of Fantasy managers.

We assess the Old Trafford revolution, the world without Suarez and the merits of the three-man strike force. We slice through the current transfer trends and weigh up matters such as the Sigurdsson/Bojan rotation, Fagregas vs Hazard and the Chelsea back four conundrum. We also manage to warm up with a nice little argument about the Alexis Sanchez bandwagon – the traditional pre-season barney.

Be there at the birth via this link, or witness the new dawn via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yeah, not to bad. I'm looking to get a defence with players nailed on and keep changing my mind. Currently got Cahill, Lovren, Evans, Wisdom and Shawcross but looking to maybe go for Begovic instead as Shawcross is pricy. Who would you recommend pairing with Bego?

You gone for the Hazard from the start?

Mannone in goal with Bego, but could be Schmeichel,Not starting with Hazard, but I can get him in if need be.

Cool! Yeah I was thinking Mannone as he gets so many save points.

            My attack is:

            Mata Erikson Arnautovic Siggy Davis

            Costa Roonpig Dzeko

What you think? I'm a bit worried my midfield is too cheap.

            Who do you currently have?

Have Rooney and Costa, so I can't afford Dzeko. You must have missed my 25k rank in 12/13, there are better managers around.

liverpool were awesome without suarez, both at the start of last season and the end of the previous one when he first got banned. if you take ALL his goals out liverpool still scored more than arsenal, united, spurs, and everton. 10 players from the team are still there, plus much stronger defense and depth in attack. i dont think the "decline" is as big as people imagine. Liverpool is all about team play these days, not an individual.

Not saying this is an issue of bias just complete inaccuracy. United dont even have a fed eve or midfield for god sake. They've current got 2or 3 fit players. Liverpool have strengthened in all areas, particularly defence. Appreciate they don't have Suarez but they'll be so much more solid this year. Bookmark this for the end of the season...

I suppose starting the season with 3 Chelsea defenders would be a form of madness. Just a question of good or bad. On the positive side, the likes of Cahill, Terry and Ivan are goal threats and you know what your getting with a Mourinho team. Nice fixtures to boot. Your likely to not go too far wrong picking them.

On the other hand, they are costed about right and your forgoing Hazard/Costa. Which kinda sucks. Plenty of other viable options around their costs, but those two are quality players, no question.

Long term, you would want to switch it up now doubt, as other defenses become more settled, affording you a route to get Hazard/Costa. Would it be too late by then though?

It's how I'm setting up. Originally I was going to have two tops, so I could move for an attacker if needed - but the Pulis news has tipped me over the edge. I think it's important to get a good defence together from the off but I don't see much value anywhere else right now. Alternatives will present themselves but for now I'm investing in solid, proven defenders.

Your pretty much paying a premium for the best defense, with a little upside included when it comes to goal scoring. I think if Davies establishes himself and once Arsenal/Pool fixtures ease up, the likes of Lovren and Debuchy will come to the fore as elite defenders. But currently, outside of Chelsea, it is a bit bleak for the premiums.

The cheap defenders can be a bit of a toss up I've found, always a sticking point early on. Easy to get burnt. Although if it works out, your dandy.

    Ramsey / Lamela / Mata / Hazard
    Rooney (c) / Diego Costa

Subs: Hamer / Bojan / Siggy / Duff

What do we think? It may sound unorthodox but I'm tempted to downgrade Bojan to Jutkiewicz so I have .5 m to put into defence once the season has kicked off. The way I see it, I'd rather play Siggy or a defender with a good fixture over Bojan the vast majority of weeks, so he's dead weight at the moment.

Can I please just make a point:

When Holloway was sacked (mutual consent...) Keith Millen took over and it was HIM that shored up the defence. It was him that took charge over the 0-0 at home to Everton and the 1-0 win away at Hull. He stopped the rot.

With Pulis leaving, it will be Millen who take temporary charge once again, and I can see them being VERY strong at the back.

Millen has a fantastic way of getting the player to come together, and I think you need not be concerned about the back line.

I also think that any deal that Pulis had with Hennessey to convince him to join (rumour had it that they had a gentleman's agreement that he'd be No. 1 this year) has now gone and I expect to see Speroni between the sticks.

    That's all! Thanks

We needed someone to take over from Maricrappa, but I have a feeling Millen might let Jerome Williams have a chance.

I like Kelly, glad we bought him, but not sure if he's nailed on. Feel sorry for him to be honest. He was looking forward to playing for Pulis.

Still going with Kelly instead of Ward, just in case. Oh and it allows me to have Clyne over Collocini, and I'm very much keen on that offer.

Ah ok thanks for this info, but I have to say I'm still worried for their long term defensive effectiveness, depending on who comes in...

Any chance this Millen guy gets the job on a permanent basis?

      shd i take out dzeko/lukaku for a giroud, or a jovetic + .5 or a pelle + 1.0r

    Thoughts on snodgrass v Henderson?

Snodgrass has the fixtures and a decent finisher in Jelavic but Rodgers has said he wants more goals from Henderson and should be given permission to bomb forward...

Both have scoring potential and both teams have Europe so pretty hard to know how they'll fare. Might be a slight rotation risk. I'd expect similar points output.

Thoughts on United defensive prospects over a the first 4-6? Every defensive position looks weak except De Gea, and maybe Jones. Think fixtures may be misleading now

I do think Cech will leave (sigh). Having said that, Terry's goal threat potential is way higher than any defender. Another option is to dump United defence altogether and go for a 4.5 * 2 GK combo of Krul + Foster.
