A new beginning. On the eve of a new campaign, two grumpy middle-aged has-beens gather in a studio to recall the summer’s feast of football and look ahead to another Fantasy season, full of hope.

There’s no frills. No live video cast. No special guests. Just Granville and I, stripped back and almost unplugged.

Don’t let that put you off, though. Even with our limited powers we at least attempt to cut through the issues currently rattling around in the minds of Fantasy managers.

We assess the Old Trafford revolution, the world without Suarez and the merits of the three-man strike force. We slice through the current transfer trends and weigh up matters such as the Sigurdsson/Bojan rotation, Fagregas vs Hazard and the Chelsea back four conundrum. We also manage to warm up with a nice little argument about the Alexis Sanchez bandwagon – the traditional pre-season barney.

Be there at the birth via this link, or witness the new dawn via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Begovic (Krul)
    Wisdom - F Luis - Lovren - Caulker (Davies)
Sterling - Mata - Hazard (Siggy - Wanyama)
    Jelavic - Rooney - Costa

I think i have the players i want (or? any suggestions?)

    FERNANDO TORRES
    A) Sturridge + Chester + PVA + Marney
    B) Zamora + Terry + Debuchy + Sterling

I know Zamora is bad but if I tried to upgrade I'd lose one of my premium defenders of Debuchy Jones Terry

    Thoughts?

    Considering

    a) Kelly/Williamson
    b) Davies-4m
    c) Debuchy-4m (and downgrade Cahill-> Luis)

I prefer sticking with Ward to those three (assuming that's your plan). If you pick the right one from A then great, but we don't know which of those (if either) will start.

Don't wanna pay 5m for a non Pulis defender and can't have Ward + 4m instead.
Early this season I prefer playing the fixture game (or reliable ones ala Chelsea) for defense and Kelly + Williamson rotates perfectly.

So everyone seems to be in full panic mode given that Pulis has reportedly left. Kind of understandable. I have Ward and Puncheon and although I'm happy to hold Puncheon I am not considering whether 5m on a defender, who I planned to play every week, at a club like Palace without Pulis makes sense.

That said, I'm also not sure that Caulker and Clyne make much more sense. Southampton have lost their manager and half of their team including their two best defenders. QPR are just coming up from the Championship and although I agree they have good fixtures for a rotating pair and a 4.5m rotation pick might not be a bad shout, I'm not convinced 5m is a good price to pay.

I guess a compromise of Caulker or Clyne + a 4m defender is rotating Yoshida and Ferdinand for the same price (works well for the first few weeks).

The other option is Kaboul, but I'm not convinced he's nailed on. Thoughts?

I'm thinking sticking with Ward and just seeing how Palace fare, then jumping on a defensive bandwagon if needed.

Short of it is in the 5.5 and 5.0 bracket i only see value (in varying degrees) in Debuchy/Lovren/Clyne/Werd and Man U.
That also comes with concerns over Man U defensively and no Pullis at palace

Don't get Yoshida - they just signed a new CB. I remember how poor CPL were defensively before Pulis arrived and let's face it - they have fairly average players. I really fear for them this season 🙁

To be fair they were under Ian Holloway who's very attacking minded.

I might think even without Pulis, CPL might stick with the winning formula of defending hard and counter. It's not like Pulis left because there was a conflict of playing style like in Stoke.

At least for the short term where there's no new manager yet.

Go with Kelly tink. 4.5 more suitable for a non pulis palace. Kabould isn't nailed on long term. Will strart the season though it seems. I think Dier will eventually cement a spot alongside Vert but how long that will take and whether it's even this season remains to be seen.
Clyne and Caulker do seem over-priced in comparison with Lovren, Debuchy, Jones etc but both should still be good picks in their own right

True. I don't see the point of paying 5m for a Pulis-less Palace defender, or just-promoted QPR defender where there's cheaper option on the team.

Clyne though is very attacking and IMO Yoshida not nailed on so I'm considering him and rotate with Ferdinand as you said.

Not interested at Kelly for Palace coverage?
I'm not abandoning them altogether, mainly due to their juicy home fixture but I will rotate him rather than playing all games.

No idea about Kaboul but seems like he's first choice with Vert when fit?

    My final decision

Worked my team so I could have hazard mata Ramsey in midfield but not happy about having a 4.5 midfield in there. The choice I'm now stuck with is

    A. Haz / Rams / Eriksen / Mata / Marney/Albrighton

    B. Sterling / Rams / Eriksen / Mata / Siggy

Not 100% on Sterling but just think team looks weaker with a 4.5 mid and Bojan rotating.

Guys my 12 year old daughter has taken the 40- hour famine pledge to raise money for PLAN International who do great work helping some of the most disadvantaged children around the world. Starting 9pm today Sydney time Chloe will forgo food and talking (trust me this won't be easy for her 😉 ) for until 1pm Sunday.
If you think this is a good cause please sponsor my girl with whatever you can afford at this link https://give.everydayhero.com/au/40-hour-famine-2
She has already raised $126.50 and is on her way to the $300 goal she set 🙂
Apologies for the spam, most of you know me and know this isn't something I would normally do on this site. Just so proud of my girl and think it's a really worthy cause
