The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

A Chelsea defender is a must for Evs, should he downgrade Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and get a 6m Chelsea defender or downgrade Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to his team mate Aaron Ramsey to give himself 6.5m to spend.

Recently Tottenham’s Ben Davies had been ousted from his team, as again uncertainty with Danny Rose continues. Which is the best route into the Tottenham defence? Stevan Jovetic is a short term punt. Who should he replace him with should he fail to cement a place in Manchester City’s starting XI?

      That's good... Rio at 4.5 looks a good pick, QPR have more CS potential than Hull IMO.

      If you're really going to go with a backline for 22.5, I'm not sure what else you could do. Naughton for a couple of weeks until Walker comes back maybe? Definitely a bold move if you go through with this idea...

      I don't know what number I'd give it, but it looks quite good. Is Baird locked-on? If so, he might be a steal at 4.0. If not, I do like that you've got Naylor and Clyne there to cover. And I guess that you're seeing Costa to cover for Chelsea...

        You know the one on your team that is the ultimate enigma? Dzeko. It is insane to think that he was the 8th highest scoring forward last season (of those still in the PL), but that, despite it, I would worry every week about whether or not he would even be playing (I had him for a bit last year). I finally gave up because of the uncertainty...

          Fair, Giroud is another I have considered, but I wanted a bit of city cover. Pelle like to play one tall and one small. Thus, when Aguero returns, it should be Jovetic that makes way, unless he scores a brace in GW1, in which case I can jump on the Jovetic wagon

        Baird is only in for GW1, which he will play. The consensus is that he will play in the midfield at the start of the season, so that points potential is too good to resist for me. Naylor and Clyne both have difficult first fixtures, but will both play GW2. Costa is my Chelsea attack cover. Hazard has been average in recent times, and Fab is only a short term option until Oscar returns, and he slots in next to Matic.

    Ok. Been throwing out my suggestions (for what they are worth), time to post my squad. That said, many of you might be second guessing my ideas once you see this beast:

    Foster, Krul
    NTaylor, Cissokho, Rose, van Aanholt, Jones
    Ramsey, Cabella, Hazard, Eriksen, Mata
    Rooney, Riviere, Ideye

    Zero in the bank Formation - 3-5-2

    I know that Ideye and Riviere are punts...and I've been back and forth on Cissokho vs Ferdidnand. And Rose, I know, isn't nailed on (although I can fund a switch to Dawson or Davies).

    All that said, any thoughts. (BTW...I am a bit of a gambler...)

      I had riviere until this morning, but looked up his history before pre-season and not convinced by his socoring rate. Why is 17 goals in 50 matches for a dutch team considered good? How about Remy? We know he can score in this league...

          Haha! Yeah, I can just see Rooney not scoring, and the universe dropping him from their teams. Storrington has poor fixtures for gameweeks 2 and 3 and then great again after that; I can see me shifting back to Rooney after the first game!

          Just not an Everton defender, they have such bad fixtures. Liverpool, arsenal, man utd all have better fixtures despite one or two tough ones in there, and all have slightly cheaper defenders who are likely to start. I have spent my defender money on Terry and lovren.

      You have spent too much on defence. Two premium defenders is enough imo so downgrade at least one of your defenders and improve your midfield

    I know Hutton is a punt (I said punt lol) but he will start at right back this year
    But I had to balance him out with stronger DF's
    Any advice would be great guys I don't want to copy everybody and I do like having the off curveball
    How about formation should I drop Chester and go 3-5-2 maybe adding KI he seems a bargain at 5.0

      You could try Lovren over Debuchy, and downgrade one of your mids to upgrade a defender and maybe Albrighton, other than that it's nice, some nice risks but a really solid team, especially upfront.

      Sorry man, Blackett ISN'T completely nailed on and will drop out after a few weeks, so to will wisdom. Albrighton is struggling with injury, there are other alternatives for that value. Other than that it's a solid front 7.

      Blackett -> Moore
      Albrighton -> Marney

      and you should be set!

        True, but I've deliberately sacrificed defensive stability to fund a more offensive approach, I think Lovren will prove valuable this season, the real problem is Ward, if CPL aren't going to be as good defensively without Pulis he's just going to be dead weight. The other 4.5s are just there to play, with little attacking or CS potential.

    Thanks for the comments above chaps. A great help. I can't bring myself to drop mata with utds fixtures. So have reluctantly dropped Eriksen. If he takes off I can transfer him in easily.

      Cameron is a risk, not sure the puny Stoke defence is worth it. Also two cheap midfielders might cause flexibility issues down the line. Other than that it is quality!

      That back 5 rotates pretty well hey.
      I have Henderson/Naylor vs Kelly/Lamela althought i still have enough coin to get Eriksen/Lamela i think Henderson will be pretty good.

        I don't believe in "cover", certainly defensive cover. Even though my defence is cheap I think it can still pick up a few 4pt CSs, just like a heavy defence. Attack is where the points are at.

      Looks pretty good! Hazard is freakishly good on good days. Consistent enough for 10M though? Not sure, but I guess you've considered other options in the 9-10M range. Best of luck

    I think most Dzeko/Jovetic owners are missing a key point...one of them WILL be dropped once Aguero reaches full fitness and one of them could be subbed off at half time...

    Next week you'll have a headache with Jovetic/Dzeko as you'll be uncertain of which one Pellegrini drops.

      I have picked Jovetic cause i feel he's going to score well in the first couple of weeks after that I'll drop him if he doesnt perform as expected.
      He has the potential to match Aguero's returns imo
