The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

A Chelsea defender is a must for Evs, should he downgrade Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and get a 6m Chelsea defender or downgrade Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to his team mate Aaron Ramsey to give himself 6.5m to spend.

Recently Tottenham’s Ben Davies had been ousted from his team, as again uncertainty with Danny Rose continues. Which is the best route into the Tottenham defence? Stevan Jovetic is a short term punt. Who should he replace him with should he fail to cement a place in Manchester City’s starting XI?

      I would downgrade young and hazard in order to get a 8 - 9 m striker . Or at least downgrade young and get a decent striker ala bojan , wickham , fletcher

      Is Mannone first choice ? You might end up swapping your 4 .5 m keeper after gw 1 a waste of a transfer , I prefer Adebayor to Giroud . With those fixtures is double Arsenal necessary ?

    Can we have a serious Cahill vs Terry debate? It's driving me insane.. Here are the issues I think are most prevalent:

    Who is the best at playing LCB of the two? Since Ivan can only play RCB apparently.

    What's more of an issue, age or having internationals? Terry's almost 34 after all, he's surely nearly past his peak, and once you're past your peak you don't start for Chelsea. Only given a one year contract so Mou can't have that much faith that he'll keep it up.

    Actual quality of player? No doubt Terry was better than Cahill in his prime, but has Cahill overtaken him yet?

      I can't pick between the two, I think it's dead even. Cahill has better fitness and is younger, but JT has more goal threat.

      I wouldn't read anything into the 1 year contract, that's what Chelsea do with players above 30 no matter who they are.

      have eventually took cahill. terry still formidable, but think the age factor might play a part this season.

      I think that P League will remain a Terry LCB - Cahill RCB pairing in the short term but it will be interesting to see if a different captaincy emerges for cup games and a different CB formation.

      I think Terry is a safe bet for now with Cahill at more immediate risk of rotation

        Bojan a bandwagon but am happy to be on it for the first home game. He is very tidy and stoke have invested well.

          Yeah I am scared of this Bojan bandwagon, have a feeling he's going to implode.

          I reckon drop Lovren and have a rotating back pair while Debuchy and Cahill become your permanent guys. Because Liverpool don't have favourable fixtures.

      He's a decent pick, very attacking and Arsenal's Wingers tend to cut in so he could be on the overlap..

      He does pick up quite a few cards however and Arsenal's fixtures are mediocre..

        It's not rotation, it's a pure 352 😀

        Naismith will almost never play, he's the equivalent of a 4.5 mid. I prefer Lamela's prospects to any of the 8m strikers as they all have rotation doubts.

      this looks decent bud

      howver, arent these the kind of traps we warn people about getting lured into? youve got a lots of punts in midfield, only two strikers and no top dogs in defence - you should be trying to be solid at the beginning and push on, rather than risk falling behind a lot early on...no need to take such risks early on

      this may be super harsh but please understand i say this with kind intentions 🙂

        I know, it terrifies me, but I just can't seem to find a 343 team that I'm happy with as I'm scared of being fecked over by Dzeko/Jovetic so if I go 352 then I have to go for the mid priced options around 8m or 7m... The three I went for are all big punts but all have the potential to be huge bargains, which is more than could be said for those picking Snodgrass / Henderson and the other supposedly "safer" picks..

    Is it crazy to start the new season with no City and no Spurs coverage? I can't figure out a decent way to get Dzeko/Jovetic/Silva/Nasri/Erilksen into this squad...

    Long(ish) term plan... Rotate Siggy/Bojan. Young out when Shaw returns, and maybe Terry > Luis if the latter weasels his way into the starting XI.

      I'm going without any City coverage, they have incredibly awkward fixtures and there are a lot of question marks around the squad..

      Spurs on the other hand are good picks but awkwardly priced just a little cheaper than the big guns, so its where your priorities lie with that one.

    Sturridge, Rooney, Costa

    A few talking points from me:

    1) Isgrove is a punt, but I want an attacking 4.5m option. Should I just ditch Isgrove for more solid?
    2) Henderson v Siggy - I would prefer to have Henderson for GW1 and then switch to Siggy.
    3) Does my front line remove value from elsewhere? I have worked hard to have two strong midfielders supported by mid-priced quality as well as a defence with two big-team coverage and the capabilities to go 4 at the back if required by fixtures.
    4) Foster over Krul is again something I am dubious about, This seems to be the best option only for GW1 again.

      Rotation pairs for GKs works for sure
      Rotation pairs for cheap DEF - def works if they both play regularly
      Can't say I've ever had a planned MID rotation plan as this can be too expensive but I've tried it

        Thanks, initial plan was to rotate across the board but can spend so much time second-guessing the fixtures, I'm starting to think it may be best to get the best 11 possible from the (likely) top 6-8 teams and stick with it.
