The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Kicking off today’s RMT discussion is Evs.

A Chelsea defender is a must for Evs, should he downgrade Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and get a 6m Chelsea defender or downgrade Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to his team mate Aaron Ramsey to give himself 6.5m to spend.

Recently Tottenham’s Ben Davies had been ousted from his team, as again uncertainty with Danny Rose continues. Which is the best route into the Tottenham defence? Stevan Jovetic is a short term punt. Who should he replace him with should he fail to cement a place in Manchester City’s starting XI?

      Chambers might be good for the first weeks as Per is absent, and you can replace him easily so nice.

      Just a tad bit mid-level midfield, but nice.

      Attack is strong if you're playing 352, but if you intend to play 343 downgrade either Henderson or Siggy to upgrade Bojan. I think he'll be a disappointment with all this hype.

        i'd upgrade hendo to eriksen with the money you get from downgrading yaya.

        if you have anything left you could spend it on def but upgrading MF is more important imo

      I Love it ! the Yaya move is just beautiful . Great differential with Mutch , and dont worry a lot about the defence your forward will probably just get those points for you . 9/10

      Downgrade attack, balance midfield, improve defence. I'd do something like Sturridge > Dzeko/Jovetic. Yaya > Ramsey. Then use the cash to replace Chambers and PvA with a 5m+ starting def and a 4.5.

      Defence is way too weak. Studge-Rooney-Costa is way too strong, you might downgrade one other than Rooney, I'd say Studge to Dzeko or Giroud for instance, in order to upgrade your defence. Have at least one big team defender. Cheers.

    I've let myself down, I thought I was done tinkering...

    I'm currently on a flexible 3-4-3/3-5-2 with Young and Bojan rotating. My question is, would I be better off with a fixed 3-4-3 with Dzeko and Giroud over Costa and Bojan?

      Costa and Bojan should score less combined over the season compared to Dzeko and Giroud. Bojan is playing in the role that Arnie and Odemwingie played in last season and though they popped up with some goals and Bojan is a better player that wouldn't compare to what Giroud might do once fully fit etc.

    I have some real beard strokers here. Do I rotate Mannone and Krul but play the risk of Pantillimon playing for Sunderland?

    Do I downgrade Hazard for Fabregas, and at the same time downgrade Dzeko for Jovetic? That would give me enough for an 8.0 upgrade on Sigurdsson, I reckon I'd go for Eriksen or Coutinho if that was the case.

    My thoughts are that downgrading Dzeko and Hazard would give me a more balanced squad long term. I'm rather uncomfortable having Sigurdsson as one of my starters. On the other hand, Swansea, Utd aside have some easy opening games coming up.

    Trading Hazard for Fabregas makes me uncomfortable aswell. Despite his efforts to destroy all the evidence of his poor world cup he tends to smash it against poorer opposition, and he could be first choice penalty taker now Lampard's moved on.

    Then again, Eriksen is a threat from set pieces, although not pens, so I'm really struggling to see which line up would be best.

    As you can see I would greatly appreciate some words of wisdom.

      Nice and balanced team in my opinion, but lacks some Liverpool coverage I guess. Would you consider Sterling or Henderson maybe?

        If I had .5 more to spare I'd probably go for Sterling over Eriksen. Then again, Eriksen is very good at set pieces so I expect him to get quite a few goals and assists from free kicks. That combined with his cheaper price is what makes me lean slightly more towards him.

    Its so complicated this year. Who would be a good choice for a 3rd striker? Wickham or Nugent? Will both play 90 minutes in most games?

          Don't do it. You want a settled back line that you can trust will start, so you can focus your transfers on getting the gems in mid and att that emerge.

    Thoughts appreciated
    Alternatives - Debucy for Lovren on basis Arsenal should get more clean sheets?
    Should I downgrade Def/Mid a bit to get 3 strikers?

      Nice GK rotation.

      Look at different options for PvA, but your other defenders kinda balance it out, so it's okay.

      I went with Debuchy but Lovren is decent too, your call really.

      If you want to get 3 strikers you might slightly downgrade your defence, and take one midfielder out for a 4.5 and you should get enough to have a decent third striker. Or, Naismith is said to be a good punt.

      Get rid of Krul for a 4.0, you got DDG.

      Barkley is not preferred much, keep in mind. Your defence is a little bit too strong, if you want to improve on Bojan you might downgrade it a little. Also if you're not planning on Davis, you might go for a 4.5 option for flexible finances on other ends.

      Arsenal looks strong but tough opening fixture. Lovren is decent but we should see him doing well in the league too. Jones is also quite proper but LVG's defence needs to prove itself, most reckon.

      Bojan is not ideal to play a 343. You should downgrade Young, and maybe your defenders to upgrade Bojan. Other than that, looks decent.

    Limited on keeper rotation and taking the Bojan gamble but plenty cash in midfield.

    Biggest concern is no city players. Thoughts guys?

      Bojan is worrying for me, as you are playin 343. Also you can squeeze out some cash from your defence. Downgrade O'Shea to a 4.0, and Cahill-Debuchy-Lovren are just too strong.

      Once you sort that out, upgrade Bojan.

    Mid - Mata Tadic Hazard Ramsey (El Ahmadi)
    Att - Rooney Pelle Jovetic

    1) What are your feelings on Southampton's Pelle and Tadic? They have good write ups and stats from previous seasons and they have pretty easy fixtures.
    2) Feelings on Rambo vs Sanchez?
    3)I'm debating downgrading Courtois to Begovic and upgrading Bruce to a 4.5 defender and if Cameron isn't going to start, possibly upgrading him to Clyne.
    4) Not sure on Jovetic but he's the chance I'm taking, hopefully it'll pay off!

      Is Courtois nailed on?

      Pelle is good, but with Jovetic your attack doesn't look too strong. Tadic is a punt you could take, your call really.

      Rambo and Sanchez should be good, essential decision is who to get once the bandwagon is underway.

      Begovic would be a nice choice, and I'd like to know if Cameron is nailed on or not too!

        Yeah this Courtois debate has been going on for a while, Im not sure but quite a few people think he's pretty nailed. Is it worth shuffling around and buying Costa? It's about time Chelsea bought a decent striker so he could just score quite a few...

    So here's the team I've come up with

    Mannone/ Krull
    Debuchy/ PVA/ P Jones/ Terry
    Mata/ Siggy/ Eriksen/ Ramsey/ Albrighton
    Rooney(c)/ Costa/ Pelle

    My concern is lack of Liverpool coverage. Maybe go with Coutinho in place of Eriksen?
    Don't want Hendo since Siggy is a better option IMO.
    Any suggestions?

      Mannone/Krul is good for rotation, but not sure Terry will play every week?
      My worry would be that Costa is expensive for a likely return of points, but I like the Pelle option - though maybe slightly less so for the first week?
      I reckon stick with Eriksen personally.

        My plan was to stick with Terry for the first few weeks and see whether F Luis gets nailed on and then get him in. Costa is my gamble, looking at Chelsea's fixtures the potential gains outweigh the risks.

      Albrighton is Injured ... find another 4.5m mid . Plus you should start Evans ahead of Taylor .
