Ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Burnley later this evening, we scour the post-match reports and treatment rooms to assess those players who picked up injuries over the previous weekend. We also cast any eye over the disciplinary action after a trio of players were given their marching orders over the nine matches played out so far.

Injuries

Arsenal
Kieran Gibbs’ pitch time was cut short in Arsenal’s opening day encounter against Crystal Palace, with a hamstring injury forcing him off after 52 minutes. Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the left back is indeed carrying a knock, and also has concerns over the fitness of Laurent Koscielny – both are doubts for the Gunners’ Champions League tie against Besiktas tomorrow night.

Crystal Palace
Eagles right-back Adrian Mariappa missed Saturday evening’s Etihad trip with a slight injury, whilst fellow defender Scott Dann was withdrawn in the latter stages with a thigh problem.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has conceded that the results of a scan on Ross Barkley’s knee ligament injury are indecisive, but fears that the midfielder could be sidelined for up to five months.

Hull City
Liam Rosenior missed his side’s game victory over QPR with a back problem, whilst two Tigers players were forced off with injuries. Alex Bruce picked up a back complaint in the first half, though this is understood to not be too serious, whilst new-boy Robert Snodgrass limped off before half time with suspected knee ligament damage, with manager Steve Bruce bracing himself for the worst.

Leicester City
Midfielder Matty James missed against Everton this weekend after sustaining a knock to his shin in training, whilst fellow Foxes midfielder Danny Drinkwater was withdrawn in the 39th minute with a hamstring problem. The club’s official website has today confirmed that both players will miss next week’s trip to Chelsea.

Man United
Jesse Lingard was forced off due to injury just 24 minutes into his debut for the Red Devils in Saturday’s home loss to Swansea.

Newcastle
Centre-back Yanga Mbiwa was unavailable for yesterday’s match against Man City having sustained a knock in training on Friday.

Sunderland
Santiago Vergini was ruled out of the Black Cats’ opening fixture due to injury. The defender’s absence saw Wes Brown shifted to right-back as cover, with Valentin Roberge partnering John O’Shea in the middle.

West Ham
James Tomkins failed to feature in the weekend home loss to Spurs due to a hamstring complaint, with Sam Allardyce uncertain over whether he will come back into the side for next weekend.

Suspensions

Crystal Palace wide-man Jason Puncheon saw red in the 89th minute against Arsenal on Saturday evening. Two bookable offences ensured that the midfielder will miss next weekend’s home match against West Ham.

Both Tottenham’s Kyle Naughton and West Ham’s James Collins were given their marching orders during the London derby at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon. Naughton was shown a straight red for a deliberate handball in his side’s 1-0 victory, whilst Collins received a second yellow after the break to make it 10 men apiece. The pair will sit out next weekend’s fixtures and return for Gameweek 3.

Meanwhile, Hull City forward Yannick Sagbo will serve the second of a two-match ban next weekend, and Chelsea’s Ramires will make his return on Saturday from a four-match suspension for violent conduct that carried over from the end of last season.

Starting XI for the coming week:

    Krul
    Terry Clyne Chester
    Mata Siggy Rambo Eriksen
    Rooney Costa (c) Dzeko

    Foster; Caulker, Hutton, Marney

Guess I should just save the FT? Mata > Sterling is a move I considered and concluded to be far too risky. Hard to drop Juan ahead of such promising fixtures.

Yes United need players but it's not always the players. You need a manager who can match expectation and who's good with man management. Transfers is a different story. Blaming Woodward is just a cover up because world class players can join better teams than United (at the moment)

In a prediction game. Is there any Burnley player who looks set to come off the bench?
Like for Chelsea I went with "Oscar goes off and Torres comes on" (We thought of Costa off too but Oscar looks likelier)
Anyone from Burnley? The best I can think is that "Jutkiewicz goes off and Barnes comes on". Any suggestions?

It doesn't have to be exact by the way, if real life subs are Schurrle OFF Torres ON and Oscar OFF Mikel ON then Oscar OFF Torres ON is ok.

Costa OFF Torres ON would actually be the most likely - Mourinho subs off his striker every game except when we're chasing, which would seem unlikely in this case

      No idea about Burnley tho

      A. Sterling will go up in price before the weekend, but you'll still be able to do a straight swap, so no need to jump straight in. Have a look at how Sterling gets on against stiff opposition, give Mata a chance in an away game, and then make the call.

In exactly the same boat with:

      Mata, Ramsey, Haz, Hendo

      Rooney, Costa, Giroud.

But im saving my transfer and maybe do it next week with a 2FT reshuffle as i see fit.

He's not gonna get a lot against city, and honestly, you can take a 0.3 rise. Mata getting loads of points in the next 2 will just kill you on the inside 🙂

This was on the previous post and got a handful of replies (thanks much for those), but could really use more. Already did Barkley --> Siggy for free.

    Hi all,

Need advice on a weird problem:

Picked a team three weeks ago then went on holiday.

Knew I would be on holiday in the week running up to the start, but lightning took out the internet (and everything) last week, so no chance of updating my team in the run-up. Ended up starting off with this:

    Mannone
    Debuchy, Rafael, Terry
    Ramsey, Barkley, Nasri, Arnautovic
    Rooney, Aguero, Jelavic

    Gilks, Noble, Pocognoli, Vlaar

Surprisingly not a disastrous start, but need lots of advice about what to do next. Thoughts?

I'm starting to think that David Gill was more important than Fergie to Utd.

There is no way LvG hasn't wanted defenders all summer.

He knew before he was taking over that he would lose Vidic and Ferdinand and then he must of authorised the sales of Evra and Buttner. So something is not right that there has been no replacements.

It's not defenders. It' midfield. And yes, I've thought for a long time that had Gill had more say in things we'd have been better off in Fergie's final years. His loss was just as big as Fergie's. The timing couldn't have been worse.

We need 2 CB's at least, a RWB and LWB or wingers if he wants to change formations and a pitbull CM, Khedira or Vidal.

We need two CBs like we need a hole in the head. And buying wing backs? Are you having a laugh?

One world class leader at the back or nothing for me. And we need at least two CM. One proper box to box type and a holding option. A wide player would also be of some help. As would selling about six players, including Mata.

Eventually got round to programming my spreadsheet and now have it all up to date with recent date.

Anyway, here are a few obvious tips that have been flagged up with the key performance indicators I am using:

    1. Siggy is an excellent 4th choice midfielder and you would do well to get him now.

    2. Berahino is the real deal. He is an excellent player and one destined for bigger things. They have a decent run of fixtures and I recommend investing right away.

    3. Chester is an excellent 4th defender and you would be wise to get him now as they have excellent fixtures.

    4. Ki is worth the extra 0.5M for your 5th midfielder. You will be glad you have him on your bench when you need him, although I would not get him and Siggy because it means you need to treble up if you want Bony when he starts producing.

Ki isn't isn't worth it FPL wise. Chester is ok I guess, don't expect many more goals from him. Berahino IMO will be a bandwagon fail. Siggy will probably be a must have.

I am willing to bet that all the budget players I have recommended will average over 3 PPG which equates to over 114 points for the season if they stay fit. This is excellent value for money.

The only reason not to get Ki is if you are getting Siggy.

Agree on the first three. There are better options than Ki though.

I cannot reveal my secrets but I used the same ones last season which was my first season playing.

I never started to GW3 and managed to finish 1st overall for everyone who started in that GW and finished around 16K overall our of everyone.

    Hi all

Would be good to hear your thoughts on:

    1. Ben Davies - was that a one off, is it better to get rid sooner rather than later?

    2. Neil Taylor - substitution just a precaution? is he as nailed on as possible?

    Thanks in advance

I think Rose will be the starter, Naylor could well lose his spot, he was really bad...
