Ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Burnley later this evening, we scour the post-match reports and treatment rooms to assess those players who picked up injuries over the previous weekend. We also cast any eye over the disciplinary action after a trio of players were given their marching orders over the nine matches played out so far.

Injuries

Arsenal
Kieran Gibbs’ pitch time was cut short in Arsenal’s opening day encounter against Crystal Palace, with a hamstring injury forcing him off after 52 minutes. Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the left back is indeed carrying a knock, and also has concerns over the fitness of Laurent Koscielny – both are doubts for the Gunners’ Champions League tie against Besiktas tomorrow night.

Crystal Palace
Eagles right-back Adrian Mariappa missed Saturday evening’s Etihad trip with a slight injury, whilst fellow defender Scott Dann was withdrawn in the latter stages with a thigh problem.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has conceded that the results of a scan on Ross Barkley’s knee ligament injury are indecisive, but fears that the midfielder could be sidelined for up to five months.

Hull City
Liam Rosenior missed his side’s game victory over QPR with a back problem, whilst two Tigers players were forced off with injuries. Alex Bruce picked up a back complaint in the first half, though this is understood to not be too serious, whilst new-boy Robert Snodgrass limped off before half time with suspected knee ligament damage, with manager Steve Bruce bracing himself for the worst.

Leicester City
Midfielder Matty James missed against Everton this weekend after sustaining a knock to his shin in training, whilst fellow Foxes midfielder Danny Drinkwater was withdrawn in the 39th minute with a hamstring problem. The club’s official website has today confirmed that both players will miss next week’s trip to Chelsea.

Man United
Jesse Lingard was forced off due to injury just 24 minutes into his debut for the Red Devils in Saturday’s home loss to Swansea.

Newcastle
Centre-back Yanga Mbiwa was unavailable for yesterday’s match against Man City having sustained a knock in training on Friday.

Sunderland
Santiago Vergini was ruled out of the Black Cats’ opening fixture due to injury. The defender’s absence saw Wes Brown shifted to right-back as cover, with Valentin Roberge partnering John O’Shea in the middle.

West Ham
James Tomkins failed to feature in the weekend home loss to Spurs due to a hamstring complaint, with Sam Allardyce uncertain over whether he will come back into the side for next weekend.

Suspensions

Crystal Palace wide-man Jason Puncheon saw red in the 89th minute against Arsenal on Saturday evening. Two bookable offences ensured that the midfielder will miss next weekend’s home match against West Ham.

Both Tottenham’s Kyle Naughton and West Ham’s James Collins were given their marching orders during the London derby at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon. Naughton was shown a straight red for a deliberate handball in his side’s 1-0 victory, whilst Collins received a second yellow after the break to make it 10 men apiece. The pair will sit out next weekend’s fixtures and return for Gameweek 3.

Meanwhile, Hull City forward Yannick Sagbo will serve the second of a two-match ban next weekend, and Chelsea’s Ramires will make his return on Saturday from a four-match suspension for violent conduct that carried over from the end of last season.

Has anyone seen how many goal attempts in the box Tottenham conceded? 12!

Joint highest out of all the teams.

Either their defence is crap or West Ham have actually stepped it up a gear.

I wouldn't read too much into that as they were missing 2 of their key defenders and played most of the game with 10 men.

I expect them to have one of the top defences this season once everyone is fit.

My view on Ed Woodward if I may. The club made a huge mistake letting Gill go along with Fergie.

Woodward is basically trying to create a network whilst negotiating. He has no contacts, he has no relationship with agents/clubs.

Woordward has approached the situation in the stupidest manner possible. To come out and say money is no object is utterly moronic. Anyone in a negotiating position surely knows you do not disclose this information.

I have a feeling the way he has approached clubs/agents/players has been poor. He has struggled in his role and has basically gone in for any player who is available - rather than contacting only those players united need.

Worst part is one of the few things Fergie got right late on was preparing for Rooney to be sold by slating him in the media. Then what does Moyes do? Crawl straight up his arse.

Why the hell can they not just identify the target and then place their maximum bid! If its accepted great if not move on to the next target!!!

All the crap linking us with Vidal and all the rest is bull. If we had placed any bids the clubs would of came out and said that we've turned down utd hoping to get a few clubs fighting it out. It just seems to me that we aren't actually in for anybody apart from maybe Rojo.

And yet Ed the tool comes out at the start of the summer with all his hot air bull and builds up the expectations of the fans!

I my mini league the number of Chelsea players vary a lot. Some have gone completely without Chelsea coverage, some just have Costa and there are differences in Hazard/Fab and Terry/Cahill pick. Plenty to be excited about, if you ask me.

It's certainly going to be weird next Gameweek, I'll most likely captain Diego Costa at home to Leicester knowing full well I'll probably sell him straight afterwards to get in and captain Agüero in GW3.

Is Austin ---> Berahino and Davies ---> Dier worth -4 along with getting 0.5 to use in the next GW transfer? I reckon spurs will keep a clean sheet against QPR which means Austin would be benched for the next game week anyway. Dier after the impressive first game should start and capitlise on clean sheet points at least. Berahino may not replicate GW1 but should do well enough

Funny how hard it is to build a premium forward line. Rooney Sturridge Costa seemed so expensive a week ago but still 2.5-3.5m short of getting Aguero and RVP.

Pretty much impossible to get there before the January WC because of TV, so I wonder if 3-5-2 might be the way to go this fall since the price increases could be with the midfielders now before switching to 3-4-3 in the winter...
