Our Friday lunchtime regular returns again as we scour the PlayON Player Price List ahead of tomorrow’s 10.45am deadline. As mentioned in last week’s article, we’ll be offering a couple of picks per position this term, with an essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

This weekend, PlayON has a £3,000 Guaranteed Pot on offer – you can enter three different teams into the game up to 10.45 on Saturday morning.

Goalkeeper – Julian Speroni
The Eagles stopper is favourably priced at just 7.4m for the home encounter with West Ham tomorrow afternoon. After a defiant display at Arsenal last weekend, it looks like Tony Pulis’ defensive mindset has made a real impact on the Crystal Palace players and they’ll be confident of keeping out a blunt Hammers attack that scored just 15 times on their travels last season. For just a little extra outlay, though, you could opt for Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois. The young Belgian looks to have won the race for the role of Jose Mourinho’s new number one and comes in at just 7.8m in this week’s PlayON Player Price List as the Blues prepare to welcome promoted Leicester to Stamford Bridge.

Defender – Jose Fonte
Southampton were somewhat unfortunate to concede two goals at Anfield last Sunday and Ronald Koeman’ side will be hoping home comforts can help them bounce back immediately. The Saints play host to West Brom this Saturday and while Nathaniel Clyne is perhaps the more popular pick after his strike against the Reds, the 7.4m-priced Jose Fonte carries a real goal threat and scored three times in the previous campaign. Again, our attentions turn to Chelsea here. Mourinho’s side are formidable at Stamford Bridge and both Gary Cahill and skipper John Terry come in at 9.4m apiece for the Leicester clash – the latter grabbed three goals in pre-season and looks the likeliest of the pair to offer value for money against The Foxes.

Midfielder – Gylfi Sigurdsson
The Icelandic international is on everyone’s radar at the moment after serving up a goal and assist in Swansea’s opening day win at Old Trafford. Not so much a ‘left-field’ pick but certainly a budget-friendly one, Sigurdsson comes in at a cut-price 8.3m ahead of a home clash against promoted Burnley – whilst there’s a possibility he could be shifted onto the right if Garry Monk rolls out a 4-4-2, the playmaker’s delivery and dead-ball ability makes his impossible to ignore. Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen also looks a tempting option at 8.9m. Rested from midweek Europa League duties, the Dane’s set-piece duties will be a key weapon for Mauricio Pochettino’s side as they welcome QPR to the Lane in Sunday afternoon

Forward – Emmanuel Adebayor
Like Eriksen, the Tottenham forward was also afforded the night off from midweek action and will be fully refreshed for the visit of former manager Harry Redknapp. Adebayor scored 11 times in just 20 Premier League starts for the north London outfit last term and, having edged ahead of Roberto Soldado for the lone forward role in a 4-2-3-1, also has spot-kick duties to boost his points potential – he sets you back just 10.9m for Sunday’s clash. Diego Costa looks difficult to avoid for tomorrow’s home clash with Leicester. Available for 11.4m in this week’s PlayON Player Price List, the summer signing netted on his debut at Burnley on Monday and, having scored 18 of his 27 league goals for Atletico Madrid in front of his own fans in 2013/14, clearly prefers home comforts.

Armed with the above picks, head on over to PlayON.co and get picking for the £3,000 Guaranteed Pot.

    Killian here from http://www.playon.co,

As mentioned in the article above, we have a £3,000 Guaranteed Pot on offer this week at PlayON - you can enter 3x different teams into the game before the entry deadline of 10.45 on Saturday morning.

If you have any questions about the article above or about PlayON in general, if you add them as replies below I will answer them all.

Killian, just to clarify, if we use someone else's team after the deadline, are we allowed more than 3 teams?

        Hi Roonatic,

All limitless entry games, including the £3,000 game, close for entries at the same time as the team picking deadline - 10.45 on Sat morning. At that, point all the teams are then revealed and you can start browsing other people's teams and entering them into in-play games. However all in-play games are limited entry games only - so one-on-one, 3 player, 4 player, 10 player - this is to ensure there is a short time-lag between the first entrant and the last entrant. We have also introduced the "Unjoin This Game" button so you can unjoin a game at any point before it fills up (i.e. 2/2, 5/5 or 10/10 entries).

You can enter as many teams into each of these in-play games as you like, so more than 3 (if using other people's teams) but for the £3,000 game and all other games before 10.45 on Sat, you can only enter your own 3x teams.

Sorry if I'm being dense here, but during the 10k game last week, I noticed some of the entries said "XYZ using ABC's" team. So for the 3k game, is this still possible? Can I use someone else's team?

            Hi Roonatic,

No problem - and you're not being dense. There were some server issues last week and a few people entered the 10k game using other people's teams while the server issues were being resolved but these entries were subsequently removed from the 10k game. If you see the final standings of the 10k game in the results section, there are no entries using other people's teams. So you can only enter your own teams into these larger pots, with using other team's just for in-play games.

Any other questions let me know

        Hi Greenwindmill,

If you click back to the homepage and then go into the one-on-one page again it should be fine - there seems to be a bug when trying to enter multiple one-on-one games in quick succession so if you click out to the homepage and back in again that should be fine. We are working on fixing that bug at present

      Hi Killian,
QQs about the in play games. Is this only available until the first match kicks off? If not when is it open till and do points already scored count?

        Hi Ronmadpirlo,

In-play games start once the teams are locked - 2 hours before the first kick-off - and continue right up to the final whistle of the gameweek. So you can continue entering one-on-one, 3, 4, 5 and 10 player games throughout the weekend.

Points already scored do count and you can also use other people's teams to enter in-play games, with the team creator keeping a % of your winnings if you win money using one of their teams.

We also have an "Unjoin This Game" button in so you can pull your entry from any game at any stage before it fills up - which is important for in-play games with new events happening in real time so you can enter / remove your entry as you please.

Any other questions let me know

      Killian,

I loved your game last year, but I must admit that the issues I had with your site last week have put me off somewhat. Due to personal circumstances I could only get on your site about 30 mins before the deadline, having created a team the night before. I couldn't add funds, or enter any games, so it was a complete disaster for me, and very frustrating.

I think I might hold fire for a while until all these bugs are sorted.

      Cheers,
      Phil.

Sagbo back next week and Bruce after a striker so he'll be playin in midfield before long. Will he continue to be nailed in midfied? Aluko and Brady offer competition there. and i hear they are after a snoddy replacement too

Aluko was benched for GW1, so I suppose he's ahead of him

Brady costs 5m, Ince costs 5.5m. It's pretty obvious Ince is more valuable, so he should be ahead of Brady in the pecking order. Simple! 😆

this will not happen. For a start pool have lots of attacking midfielders and no good centre backs, so this would be madness

I mean I know united have no good centre back either but still...

Pools formation will be variations on 4-3-3 with sterling/sturridge and one of balo/cout

think lallana will drop back a little now to play in centre

Free speech involves being able to say whatever you like in public, however offensive (save for certain limited restrictions such as inciting violence). I'm not saying Mackay's comments aren't sackable offences. Matters of professional conduct are different to principles of free speech. But it worries me that so many people think that such comments, in themselves, are beyond the pale. If you care about free speech, they are not beyond the pale. They are merely offensive.

That's why I made the distinction between professional conduct (greater restrictions on speech might be appropriate in certain employment situations, obviously) and the wider point I was making about free speech and peoples' attitudes to such comments.

but if you said, in private, to another member of staff, something racist about a member of your team... and that then got discovered (either by e-mail/text/them telling on you) - surely you would expect to be sacked?

are you saying, just so I'm clear, that just because MM sent those texts doesn't mean he's racist? Because that is ultimately the bottom line. I agree with you on the free speech point, but the fact of the matter is he's been found out. And found out to be a racist. And you cannot have a racist managing a football club in the UK (I'm sure Russia would snap him up).

Read again. I made a distinction between free speech and professional conduct. Of course, active discrimination is a different matter. That is not just about speech but about conduct, discriminatory conduct for there are statutory protections and rightly so.

there is no such thing as freedom of speech in the UK, not like they have in the US. It's a myth. For example the inciting of racial hatred supersedes any 'rights' to freedom of speech

As with any right, there comes a responsibility.

Free Speech doesn't mean that you should voice anything that comes to your mind , however dumb it is, but it means, that you should be able to speak up without being prosecuted by authorities. On the other hand by speaking up in the way he did he offended other people, thus breaching their rights, by discriminating them and dishing/offending them.

While he does have the right for his opinions and can freely keep them to himself, these aren't opinions, which should be voiced at all and it's quite sad to see that many people share them.

A lot of people use free speech as an argument to offend and insult other people, whereas it's origin was not to be prosecuted for your opinions, which was and actually is a problem in many countries. (and I don't mean opinions leading to hatred to anyone else, but more political, economical and human rights related ones).

Free speech is extended to everybody...Those who wish to say offensive and derogatory comments and those who wish to say "You're sacked for saying offensive and derogatory comments"...I can't see the problem...The system works really well in fact.

Could see Leicester parking the bus, Costa basically just knocked in a rebound against Burnley and the points get shared around at Chelsea, Rooney is the focal point of a good away from home United squad who is on penos and sure to atone for their performance against Swansea

Even if they did, there's a lot of quality there to open them up. Ther'll be a few nice chances dropping to Costa I reckon.

      Afternoon.

      How's this for the weekend?

      Krul
Clyne / Chester / Filipe Luis
Mata / Ramsey / Eriksen / Sigurdsson (vc)
      Fletcher / Rooney / Diego Costa (c)

      Foster / Chambers / Marney / Wisdom

Like it. Fletcher's a nice little punt. And even if Luis doesn't play, Chambers isn't a bad back up. That situation could become an issue long term, but I'd imagine Luis will become a good pick by the time Chambers becomes a bad one. Timing! 🙂
