Our Friday regular arrives as the minutes tick down until tomorrow’s deadline. We continue with a three-part approach, taking in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Gameweek poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

The Captain Poll

Chelsea dominate this week’s poll, with three of their players populating the top-four places ahead of a home encounter against promoted Leicester. Diego Costa leads the way with over 50% of the votes cast after he netted on his debut away to Burnley on Monday evening – the Spain international scored 18 of his 27 goals for Atletico Madrid at home last year and clearly offers a stronger option in front of his own fans.

Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard trail in Costa’s wake, with 14% and 6% respectively. The Spaniard’s 11-point haul at Turf Moor showed that, even when fielded in the Blues’ double-pivot, he has the ability to wreak havoc, while Hazard’s owners will be looking for the Belgian to replicate last season’s displays at the Bridge, where the Belgian scored 10 of his 14 league goals. Certainly, his owners will be looking for an improved display in the final third – Hazard, along with Fabregas, failed to register a single attempt against The Clarets.

One of the few Fantasy successes in United’s home defeat by Swansea, Wayne Rooney has been backed with the armband by 8%  ahead of a testing trip to Sunderland. With Robin van Persie reportedly set to feature at the Stadium of Light, though, Rooney’s 48% popularity in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game may be set for a drop as managers consider the 3%-owned Dutchman, who is likely to be handed spot-kicks by Louis van Gaal.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Aaron Ramsey and Raheem Sterling are all fancied to continue the form that served up a goal apiece in the opening weekend. Certainly, Sigurdsson looks the most promising of the bunch here as he prepares for a home encounter with Burnley – having averaged 5.7 points per game in his first spell with Swansea, a role in “the hole” looks vital to his prospects. Ramsey and Sterling face tougher tasks, though – trips to Everton and City are far from certain to bring home the points.

Sigurdsson’s team-mate Wilfried Bony has been overlooked. The Ivorian netted 13 times in his final 18 appearances of 2013/14 yet has so far received a mere 62 votes, whilst Sergio Aguero, as the most popular City option, has so far earned less than 1% of the votes cast and looks another differential armband option capable of delivering in style.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Will post again so those who didn't see it get a chance too.

Take a look at this spreadsheet, which shows potential BAPS darlings over the season. Some bargains in there:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/tVeG9FnTOWGPOwf8M7enxkA/htmlview?pli=1

Will be updated each week, showing the best BAP magnets as the season progresses. These are the defenders most likely for BAPS even when they don't keep a clean sheet.

The way the BAPS are given. Caulker has attacking threat from goals etc. but it may seem that Ferdinand is more suited to the BAPS system.

Things like recovered balls, tackles, pass accuracy etc. all play a part.

The artificial bit is the Chance of playing input. This is inputed by Mark. Hence Kolarov is underated....

Wow, you need the Professor to answer this but as far as I can remember it's a mixture of bookies odds, anticipated game time, historic goal involvement, etc. which makes up the projections. The RMT model then helps to establish the best combination for you each week - who to bench, captain, etc.

It's very complex. That's not to say it's better than guessing of course 😉

Adeybayor is 2nd favourite in TFPL's ESBO but his votes in the captains poll on here equate to him being a 300/1 chance to be this weeks top points scorer.

    Differential!!

As far as a team not having Fabs/Sterling paired with too much cash upfront this team is pretty good right?
    Krulliot
    Debuchy Caulker Clyne Chester Hutton
    Tadic Eriksen Ramsey Siggy Albrighton
    Rooney Sturridge Costa

will be my team for GW 2 when i swap Davis for Tadic. barring other priorities comin up

For me Hazards attacking potential is diminished by 2 things
    - a striker in Costa who stays in the middle rather than drifting out to the right like Torres
    - a midfielder like Fabregas who although operating as a pivot is staying up with play rather than arriving late like Lampard

Still too early to say but I think the stats quoted above for Hazard will not be replicated this season

Or teams will be focused so much on Fab and Costa that Hazard will hve more room to create havoc and score goals

      The flip side:
      - He has a striker who can finish the chances created by the EPL's most creative mid.
      - He has a playmaker who can supply him with top quality service (see Schurrle vs Burnley).

Do you not think that costa will help him. He created more chances then anyone in the league last year I think and with a prolific striker in the team he can finish some of them. Also with fabregas and costa they won't just have hazard to mark so he won't have 4 players on him at a time

At Stamford Bridge, it's more likely a midfielder arriving late will score imo. Plays tend to develop in the final third and those at the edge/ just outside the box sight goal much more than the strikers/wingers.
