Villa Agree Fee with Wigan for N’Zogbia

Aston Villa have this afternoon confirmed the club have reached an agreement with Wigan Athletic for the transfer of Charles N’Zogbia.

In a brief statement released through their official site, the club have also added:

We will now discuss personal terms with the player and arrange a medical, with a view to completing the transfer later this week.

As mentioned in our N’Zogbia article earlier today, this move will be of significant interest to Fantasy managers.

Villa have the kindest run of opening fixtures this upcoming season, with their first seven games reading (ful, BLA, WOL, eve, NEW, qpr, WIG) and their players will be subject to plenty Fantasy investment as a result.

Having lost the services of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing this summer, Alex McLeish has added to strengthen his depleted options on the wings and if his formation in Villa’s previous game with Walsall is anything to go by, a 4-2-3-1 may be the favoured shape next term.

At present, this could well see N’Zogbia on the left and Marc Alrighton our right- the move does not necessarily diminish Albrighton’s likely number of starts, though priced at 7.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), N’Zogbia is a proven Fantasy favourite and looks good to take advantage of those opening Villa matches.

For Wigan, this also looks like propelling Victor Moses into Fantasy manager’s thoughts. Roberto Martinez’s side play the three promoted sides in their first three matches (NOR, swa, QPR) and Moses, priced at just 5.0, looks the likely beneficiary for the Latics. Moses’ price certainly reflects the limited game time he’s racked up since moving from Crystal Palace but that opening trio of games could see him sneak under many radars- providing Martinez affords him the platform to prove himself.

      Great midfielder but the rest is quite poor tbh. Balotelli is a huge risk. Kelly and Rafael are both uncertain starters. Huth is a lot of money with such poor fixtures. And I have no clue who hall is.

    Since the Zog is now 99% a Villa player. I'm considering attacking options when it comes to Wigan.

    Is Rodallega worth the extra 1 mill as a 3rd striker over Holt? I wont have anything in the bank incase i need to upgrade. But does it sound like a decent move?

    Basically. Holt or Rodallega wrt fixtures.skill.and goalscoring ability.

      I think Victor Moses makes more sense at the moment. Less risk and he's an inexpensive midfielder that can take your 5th position while leaving you some extra coin but not at the expense of having someone like Ferguson that wont see the pitch very much.

      Holt seems to get a lot of assists on top of his goals, if they can make a step up to the premier league he will be important for them - Wigan could struggle without N'Zogbia, it's an opportunity for Moses to increase his contribution but maybe Rodellega will suffer a reduced supply? Or maybe Rodellega will take more responsibility...

      1 goal in 21 league games last year for Moses. Even if he DOES start (which is not nailed on yet) he is not even close to the finished product yet and would be a gamble - though perhaps this is a break-out season... Just saying, my enthusiasm is tempered...

      5.0M great 5th midfielder / bench perhaps but don't expect N'zogbia numbers. Maybe a little "Albrighton" esque from last August when the young Villa winger performed well at a cheap price but faded?

      Im guessing he will get a couple of weeks off minimum, which would mean no training until mid August. I think hell be nailed on from September onwards which is ok because their fixtures are not that good anyway

      I wouldn't have both Albrighton and NZog, that's the main flaw with the first one - you're basically asking Barton & Albrighton v Moses and Silva, and if you're definitely going with NZog then the 2nd of those makes more sense - Wigan have a decent run of games to start with so Moses should be fine to start and then game week 4 you could see if he's performing or who else is looking good for the price.

        I don't know about having to wait for there fixtures to clear up. Other than being away to tot (which I dont think matters anyways), Evertons next 4 fixtures are QPR,bla,AVL,WIG, I mean thats 3 home games and all 4 games are against rather soft sides.

          Ya, I think good old Ralph is looking at the wrong team. Chelsea's fixtures are about as sweet as a team could ask for. I don't about Luiz tho, most people on here have been pretty hesitant about having him for GW1 but then on FPL he is being picked way above A.Cole, so it could be by those less in the know that havnt done much research or those just willing to rool the dice and see what happens. I myself am torn between Luiz and Cole just on the basis of the 1.0 difference.

    Not even entirely sure it will work but hope that the attached is useful. When opened scroll left to the instructions tab. This is currently very brief but hopefully you will find some of the information helpful, particularly the analysis of points per pound per match played which should add an extra dimension to last year's figures. I have also added two different levels of analysis - attack and defence which I consider very separate. Be warned my history in fpl is not the best!! I plan to update the spreadsheet in the next week or so - any feedback please send it my way via email. Be warned this could be a massive fail.

          Thanks for comments, might drop suarez as some think he'll miss first couple of weeks not sure on gabby either. May have a rethink on kalou if hes not first team then! Think chelsea will rack up a few points to start off as well as city will h be reluctant to drop silva.

            Possibly. It's prob not recommended but it's amazing how much that first week tells you. Besides you get one in jan anyway. I personally think wildcards are over rated

          I did it last year and finished top 1,200.

          May or may not have been a factor. I think it more was the fact my GW1 team was riddled with injured players and non starters.

      I agree and disagree.

      I think that with your theory that one could really could take a chance on some players that they arnt sure would start without worrying about suffering for more than one GW. Leaves you free to roll the dice and if it works GREAT but if not then you can use your "get out of jail free" wild card and make more sure picks but with that said, I would wait until atleast GW3 to make sure of who is starting and who isnt before using my wild card. You only get one..............
