Aston Villa have this afternoon confirmed the club have reached an agreement with Wigan Athletic for the transfer of Charles N’Zogbia.

In a brief statement released through their official site, the club have also added:

We will now discuss personal terms with the player and arrange a medical, with a view to completing the transfer later this week.

As mentioned in our N’Zogbia article earlier today, this move will be of significant interest to Fantasy managers.

Villa have the kindest run of opening fixtures this upcoming season, with their first seven games reading (ful, BLA, WOL, eve, NEW, qpr, WIG) and their players will be subject to plenty Fantasy investment as a result.

Having lost the services of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing this summer, Alex McLeish has added to strengthen his depleted options on the wings and if his formation in Villa’s previous game with Walsall is anything to go by, a 4-2-3-1 may be the favoured shape next term.

At present, this could well see N’Zogbia on the left and Marc Alrighton our right- the move does not necessarily diminish Albrighton’s likely number of starts, though priced at 7.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), N’Zogbia is a proven Fantasy favourite and looks good to take advantage of those opening Villa matches.

For Wigan, this also looks like propelling Victor Moses into Fantasy manager’s thoughts. Roberto Martinez’s side play the three promoted sides in their first three matches (NOR, swa, QPR) and Moses, priced at just 5.0, looks the likely beneficiary for the Latics. Moses’ price certainly reflects the limited game time he’s racked up since moving from Crystal Palace but that opening trio of games could see him sneak under many radars- providing Martinez affords him the platform to prove himself.

A Great Expectations article on N’Zogbia and Moses will follow shortly.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

forgive me but im throwing up the draft w/ baines and the draft w/o baines. which one would you prefer?

    Baines, Kompany, Hughes, Simpson, Orr

    Malouda, VDV, Nzogbia, Taarabt, Moses

    Rooney, Zamora, Holt

    OR

Kompany, Hughes, Simpson, Orr, N Taylor

    Lampard, VDV, Nzogbia, Taarabt, Moses

    Rooney, Suarez, Holt

Is the safety of pitch time for lamps and the class of Suarez vs Zamora worth not having baines and rotating 3 4.0 defenders for the 3rd spot? Dont plan on ever starting 4 in the back.

I know this was mentioned at the same point last year probably, but won't Baines be off pens if Arteta is fit, that's a big "if", but if Arteta is fit Baines doesn't have all the set pieces and pens.

I think Option 2 is better.

Baines was on PK/direct FK at the end of last year (Arteta on the pitch or not) - basically he scored a beauty vs CHE in the FAC, and Arteta missed two PK in two weeks if I remember well (same CHE game, and another PL game)

Charlie Insomnia is an interesting one.

He comes across as quite a greedy player, which is good in FPL terms, but I'm not sure whether that was because he's just a Ronaldo-like glory hunter, or because everyone around at Wigan was too shit for him to want to pass to.

Besides, every assist of his was actually Figueroa's.

Not meaning to flame, but were they spread around when Tevez was hurt last year? I seem to remember that their scoring dipped calamitously when he was out.

That said, future signings like Aguero or others could change things around. Yet again. 🙂

    Al Habsi (Given)
    Riise Kompany Samba (Bosingwa) (O'Shea)

      - We still don't know about Bos and O'Shea so that could mess things up.
      - Riise could well turn out to be gold, and I hope he does but I'll wait and see.
      - I get why people want Moses I think he's worth the +1.5 over Rodellega.
      - Balotelli's nuts imo you just don't know what your gonna get with him.
      - I think you could def free up some funds around the place to have one top Striker

If that's what you believe is right then go for it man. Keep the 1.5 to upgrade one of the dodgy defenders if needs be. But if your using your free transfer on N'Zog after GW1 then your gonna have to take a hit for Utd.

        Agreed on all counts.
You need one of the big strikers if only so you can switch to whichever one gets some form at the beginning of the season. Last year everyone had Rooney or Drogba and when Drogba was on fire everyone dropped Rooney. It gives you options without costing your points.

No Tevez though as I can't see him staying.

Like Drogs to start the year strong. Have Hughes instead of Hanger and spent the extra on Sessegnon in midfield.

Also no Cashley - like the prospects of Luiz or Ivanovic better.

I just removed the link from my username. I see the scout link from "The Scout" page on premierleague.com, and as previously discussed, this advantage has all but gone.

Great while it lasted, and fully understand the evolution of the site, but it's very disappointing as a competitive player.

A truly competitive player would want to compete on a level field, no?

And your league-mates can see your team from the league menu as they can from your link. Why the change? Just don't broadcast your moves beforehand. Sorted.

No, I want to win. It's up to them to reach the level playing field.

And because despite the increasing popularity of this site, it will most likely remain that people will not openly admit to using it. If I link my team, then people know it is in fact me, and that I use this site.

Nani wont play every game and Henry and Ferguson are no good to you. That leaves you with 2 good midfielders. Needs a proper reshuffle that. Hernandez also Im not sure about. Wes Brown may not start either. Dont think Robinson and Ruddy rotate well and even if they do both defences are not great.

This got lost (ignored) on last page so one more try in case anyone is interested: A rival spreadsheet… https://skydrive.live.com/view.aspx?cid=FED82C47DF92A73D&resid=FED82C47DF92A73D%21131
Not even entirely sure it will work but hope that the attached is useful. When opened scroll left to the instructions tab. This is currently very brief but hopefully you will find some of the information helpful, particularly the analysis of points per pound per match played which should add an extra dimension to last year’s figures. I have also added two different levels of analysis – attack and defence which I consider very separate. Be warned my history in fpl is not the best!! I plan to update the spreadsheet in the next week or so – any feedback please send it my way via email. Be warned this could be a massive fail.

There was a discussion earlier about whether promoted teams start well, so I looked it up.

    2010/11

    Newcastle: 2W 1D 3L 7 points
    Blackpool: 2W 1D 3L 7 points
    West Brom: 3W 1D 2L 10 points

    2009/10

    Wolves: 2W 1D 3L 7 points
    Birmingham: 2W 1D 3L 7 points
    Burnley: 3W 0D 3L 9 points

    2008/09

    Hull City: 3W 2D 1L 11 points
    West Brom: 2W 1D 3L 7 points
    Stoke City: 1W 2D 3L 5 points

Mostly solid (but unspectacular) starts, especially for the team that has come through the play-offs interestingly. Perhaps they have been unestimated at the beginning of the season or their momentum has carried them forward.

Based on advice I made up two drafts. Which one do you prefer?

    1) 3-4-3 formation.

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany Lescott Hangeland (Orr Alcaraz)
    Lampard Taarabt VDV Sessegnon (Dyer)
    RVP Rodellega Holt

    or

    2) 4-4-2 formation.

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany Cashley Clichy Simpson (Orr)
    VDV N'Zogbia Lampard Taarabt (Dyer)
    RVP Rodallega (Agyemang)

I think option 1 is more balanced but option 2 has greater scoring potential with N'Zogs and Cashley in there.

Which one do you think is the better option?

I prefer option 1. Lescott is a better shout than Clichy, Sess may match Nzogbia and Hangeland is likely to pick up some decent points in Fulham's opening run.

Both nice teams by the way.

This has changed countless times, advice would be appreciated:

    Given, Al Habsi
    Kompany, Enrique, Simpson, Samba, Hangeland
    Nani, Taarabt, Moses, N'Zogbia, Adam
    Suarez, Hernandez, Holt

I have 0.5m in the bank. My keepers provide constant ability to rotate, 4 strong defenders with Simpson as back-up (if Enrique doesn't move, I will transfer him for Jags or Cahill). My midfield has goalscoring potential as well as assists, with some set-piece takers in there, and Moses seems a quality cheap option with N'Zog leaving. Finally, the attack has two very strong players in Suarez and Hernandez, with Holt providing more than competent backup.

Potential captains in Suarez, Hernandez, Nani, N'Zogbia, and possibly Adam. Thoughts? Thanks a lot!

Would not touch Adam with a bargepole for his price. Too much rotation in L.Pools mid field and he won't be the centerpiece anymore that he was at B.Pool.

Everything else looks okay, except for Nani. I see the potential, but rotation risk is just too much imo. Silva would be a better gambit.

Thanks Brian, will take the Silva thing into account. Main reason I chose Adam is because he's a set-piece specialist, but also because I'm a Liverpool fan and I want at least 2 LFC players in my squad 😛 I would choose Downing, but people seem to think Downing & Suarez should come as one or the other.

Yeah I see the logic alright with Adam, but can't see Stevie G giving up pens/daycent free kick options. So many mid's at L.Pool as well to contend with.

I would have thought downing has the left hand side fairly well held down. Could be wrong on that count tho and I would not get 2 scousers to start off with anyways 😉
