Despite his exertions for Uruguay in this month’s Copa America, it seems Luis Suarez may well be ready for Liverpool’s opening game of the season at home to Sunderland.

The forward has been given a three-week break by his club but reports have surfaced in this morning’s papers suggesting he will cut short his holiday in preparation for the start of the 2011/12 campaign.

Suarez, voted Player of the Tournament for Uruguay as they swept aside Paraguay in Sunday‘s final, has already had a substantial rest period over the past few months; while at Ajax, he served a seven-match ban for biting an opponent in late November last year and had a fortnight break prior to the Copa America. Fears of burn-out, therefore, seem slightly off the mark.

While there has been no official line from either club or player on the matter, the story, nevertheless, carries significant weight for Fantasy managers as they continue tinkering with their squads ahead of the season opener on 13th August.

Liverpool’s starting trio of matches reads (SUN, ars, BOL) and Suarez, priced at just 9.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has already shown in the second half of last season just how integral he will be to Kenny Dalglish’s side next term- a look at our Members Area confirms we have similarly high expectations for Suarez in 2011/12. For those looking for early Liverpool forward investment, Andy Carroll, at 10.0, looks the better bet until the situation offers more clarity.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Yo Mama must be so proud.

Suarez offers such good value; surely Dalglish will want to get off to a flyer and Suarez is match fit which is a big advantage over the opposition. Wishful thinking perhaps...

IF, and it's a jupiter sized if, saf was telling the truth last night by saying Utd aren't signing anyone else, my tip would be on Anderson. Giggs is 876 years old, Fletcher is ill, Cleverley will get gradually introduced. Anderson has a real chance to nail the second midfield place alongside Carrick. He would also be the one given more license to get forward. His first pre season under his belt too? One to watch for sure.

OK. I don't mind Anderson actually - I watched him twice towards the end of last season, and thought he was doing quite a bit better. Still has an awful tendency to lurch to the left in his position though, I thought. Thanks for the info. 🙂

😆 serious shades of faulkner in this. A good point tarnished by the 'not good enough' quackery.

Utd do need a CM, possibly even two but if they don't sign any, don't expect them not to be challenging for everything again.

                    Thanks MMW, you're a trusted ally! 😛

Well, I don't think they are good enough for Man Utd. They are decent players, just not the sort I think should be in a side challenging for all honours.
I'm by no means writing Utd off, Ferguson is one of the few managers that can actually polish a turd. But I don't think you'll knock Barca off their perch with that midfield.

Riiiight, so the only players who are good enough for Utd are players who can help beat arguably the best football side ever created? You did see Madrid get beat 5-0 right?

You've lofty ideals for Utd AtB, it's actually quite sweet.

Oh and in the words of the great man, just one more thing:

Carrick isn't injury prone. He's played over 40 games in every season for the last 5 years.

Yeah I suppose I expect more from Utd than you do. Strange that.
Anyway I think you are arguing for arguings sake. I reckon you largely agree apart from my suggestion that Anderson isn't good enough. He is a pretty polarising player even amongst Man Utd fans - some rate him, some have run out of patience.

So who is hoping Suarez doesn't start, as it would make selecting their team easier, and who thinks him not starting would make it harder.

Curious as to which side of the fence people are on with regards to wanting him to play or not, looking at the fixtures etc.

Even if he does start, he will likely not play the full match and be taken off around the 70min mark...definitely one to avoid for the first 2 game weeks.

I think he'll be on the bench against Sunderland and then possibly in the starting 11 against Arsenal.

    Given (Al Habsi)

    Cole M.Kelly Kompany (Simpson, Orr)

    Silva Nzogbia Sessegnon Taarabat (Moses)

You could be right about Bent...

I actually disagree with a lot of people on here who think Rooney should be left for the first few weeks.
Arsenal and Tottenham may sound like tough fixtures at first glance, and they well be, but they are both at Old Trafford and they both have average defenses at best so there will be goals and I fully expect returns from Rooney in both these games.

berbatov will hardly play and hernandez will see plenty of rotation. Have you seen the options they have? berbatov, hernandez, owen, welbeck, nani, valencia, young, park & cleverley need to share 3 spots between them 😮

How do you make that out to be three spots? It's 5 at least. And United will play a Rooney + Hernandez or Rooney + Berbatov partnership upfront all season without much variation between the two in the league.

Young may well end up in a central area or off the front two imo, and Berbatov and Hernandez are well ahead of Owen and Wellbeck, so it really boils down to Hernandez or Berbatov imo.

There is no chance Young will play off two strikers, maybe off one but not off two.

Yeah Berb and hernandez are ahead of Owen and Wellbeck for the 2nd striker pos but that one position is likely to be rotated between the two of them, thus not making either of them a viable fantasy option imo.

Nah not sure he'll be in the mood. Can't shake the feeling rooney is the best striker for gw1 and 2. In fact I think he'll be top of the points in fpl this season, unfortunately.

I don't see how you can invest £10.5m in Drogs when you have no idea what his game time will be. I've come to the conclusion to play Rooney GW1 (vs West Brom), then see what AVB does with selection and, if poss, switch to Chelsea forward GW2+

Sounds sensible, I will probably switch Drogs to Bent or Suarez(If he can make the start)
Then I can make a upgrade in the defence maybe.
Any upgrades you can see that I should do?

Not bad, just midfield looks abit weak due to Lamps sapping your funds.

Maybe wait and see if Malouda is going to start, if he is then Lamps to Malouda will free up funds to upgrade mids.

          Other than that looks good.

i understand, but Malouda is likely to be in midfield and is not nailed on. Lampard is a pen taker as well, so is Watson. In fact all of my mids and strikers are pen takers.

I would stick with Cole & downgrade or leave out Taarabat as your midfield looks a bit of a gamble. Might try Y.Toure or Larsen in midfield or even Gardner.
Kelly might be a gamble. What about Brown or O'Shea.

Yeah Larsson could be a good option.

I think Kelly will nail down the right back spot if Liverpool dont buy a left back so I will be keeping a close eye on that one and O'Shea would be a good alternative.

Then again, the source is pretty ropey. Etherington is a name I've not seen many go for, interesting, but Bale, with Spurs' fixtures. I'm a Yiddo and still I don't like that.

Strikers a bit of a gamble. Gervinho proven goalscorer but will he be like Chamakh & fade. Holt could be new Carroll but who knows. Think Ba is safe bet.
I would look at more premiership experience with Zamora & one of more expensive like RVP or Rooney. Maybe Hernandez

I get the feeling that the club will say something before the start of the season though. Either that he's available for selection, or that he's been given extra time off.

I will continue to puzzle over how anyone can select Drogs at £10.5m with so little idea of game time. I would also go Barton over Sinclair - more FPL credibility and pens/free-kick assist upside potential. Sinclair is a gamble, but if you feel strongly, all power to you.

Modric is not a good fantasy pick right now - he got a lot of BPs last season, but we don't know if he'll do as well under the EA Index system. I suspect not.
