Despite his exertions for Uruguay in this month’s Copa America, it seems Luis Suarez may well be ready for Liverpool’s opening game of the season at home to Sunderland.

The forward has been given a three-week break by his club but reports have surfaced in this morning’s papers suggesting he will cut short his holiday in preparation for the start of the 2011/12 campaign.

Suarez, voted Player of the Tournament for Uruguay as they swept aside Paraguay in Sunday‘s final, has already had a substantial rest period over the past few months; while at Ajax, he served a seven-match ban for biting an opponent in late November last year and had a fortnight break prior to the Copa America. Fears of burn-out, therefore, seem slightly off the mark.

While there has been no official line from either club or player on the matter, the story, nevertheless, carries significant weight for Fantasy managers as they continue tinkering with their squads ahead of the season opener on 13th August.

Liverpool’s starting trio of matches reads (SUN, ars, BOL) and Suarez, priced at just 9.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has already shown in the second half of last season just how integral he will be to Kenny Dalglish’s side next term- a look at our Members Area confirms we have similarly high expectations for Suarez in 2011/12. For those looking for early Liverpool forward investment, Andy Carroll, at 10.0, looks the better bet until the situation offers more clarity.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Hello everyone. Just signed up so this is my first post.

I've struggled the past 2 seasons and need to prove a point this season so if you could help me out and have a quick look at my team, that would be a massive help!

    Given, Ruddy
Shawcross, A Cole, Kompany, Skrtel, Assou-Ekotto
    VDV, Sessegnon, Sinclair, N'Zogbia, Taarabt
    Bent, Suarez, Holt

Obviously Suarez presents a risk so I was considering downgrading Assou-Ekotto to Zubar, Bramble or Craddock and upgrading Suarez to Carrol

    Thoughts?

Good side that very balanced however I think you have a lack of captaincy options. Need some big hitters in there.

It's not, he has Villa coverage over nice fixtures, same for Wigan and QPR, then Sinclair Gw2 and 3, with Yaya for the first game. How is that terrible? No to mention Sinclair and Taarabt are on penalties

      It's a very solid team.

There are issues to consider though. Taarabt and Sinclair rotate beautifully but for me they are more mids 4 and 5... rather than mids 3 and 4 if you catch my drift.

      Also, look to Gameweek 3...
      Kompany - away to Spurs
      Briggs - away to Newcastle
      Baines - away to Blackburn
      Yaya - away to Spurs
      Taarabt - away to Wigan
RVP - away to Man Utd
      Holt - away to Chelsea

You can only fit 3 of them on your bench. That may be a tough week for you.

Definitely 2 for me. If Albrighton plays a lot of games he could have a good year (and there's quite a few alternatives at that price bracket if he doesn't). Suarez looked good at the end of last year, should get better service this year and has probably had the best summer of any PL player.

    Kompany Luiz Dunne Hughes (Simpson)

    Malouda N’Zogbia Silva Taarabt (Ferguson)

    Suarez Bent Holt

Providing he doesn't pick up an early injury it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that RVP will be in my team and most from GW4 onwards.

As such, it may be a viable strategy to go with an alternative big gun in GW1-GW3. Someone who can be straight swapped without much other juggling.

Narrowing your scope for just those 3 opening gameweeks, Chelsea's fixtures are pretty hard to ignore. Torres anyone?

Are you Utd fans by any chance? 🙂 I know what you mean though, but for me in that 3 week run:

Man Utd = wba TOT ARS
        does not compare to
        Chelsea = stk WBA NOR

If only one of those Chelsea forwards emerged as a sure starter. Also money will need to be left in the bank in case RVP rises before GW4...

Simpson assured starter, great value at 4.0m no matter how you look at it.

I don't like luiz, gervinho purely because they may not start.

You have a lack of big hitters. I would get Rooney/rvp in by switching out gervinho personally.

Both have a lot of Liverpool and as such, a lot of doubt with the starters. I don't think Adam will be the man he was last season, I also believe that Gerrard has picked up an injury(?)

I think Kompany should be nailed on from the beginning so with that in mind i'd say A

The first team purely because you have Gerrard in the second, a lot of money for someone who is injured and under threat of rotation, considering Lpool have so many midfielders. Henderson and Adam were brought in partly to fill in for Gerrard. We were very thin on quality midfielders last year, and when Gerrard was injured we struggled.

But out of the two teams the first team.

Gerrard at 11 mil is scandalous: injury prone and will prob play in a more withdrawn midfield role

Adam a massive rotation threat and wont be the architect of the plays like he was at Blackpool

Also think Tarrabt, Sinclair and N'zog are all better options than Albrighton, Barton and Wilshire; tho if Fabs leaves for Barca, Wilshire might prove to be a prudent choice providing he adds some end product to his potential of last yr

Why do all the teams posted on here contain mainly the same players?

I see lots of mention regarding strong and weak fixtures however should you really be put off Man U players because they have a toughish start? they could quite easily win all 5 games.

Also why is there such a need to include Chelsea mids and forwards? I can't find anyone at the moment who is worth having. All the forwards have lots to prove and will probably be rotated. As for malouda he was awful for the last third of 2010/11, Lampard is clearly not the player he was but is still a huge price.

    Maybe i'm missing something?

Why do people keep forgetting that Lampard only had 24 starts last season and still got 130 points, still scored 4 penalties, and 10 goals.

Lampard is a solid pick. Expensive yes, but with a good run of fixtures thats a reasonable risk to take.

The only issue I have with picking Lampard is that Malouda may well be as good as he was last season, and with AVB he may not be allowed to become complacent like he was towards the end of last season.

Chelsea have a good run of fixtures and a new manager with thus far a reasonable preseason run in.

Writing off Chelsea or Lampard as a pick is foolish.

Not saying Lampard is a MUST pick. But at least back up your views with some facts.

To Lampard or not to Lampard....that is the question (or one of them anyway)

I agree, I don't see any reasonable options in the Chelsea attack right now. How is the new manager going to play it. I am hoping that Zirkov will get regular starts but until the season gets underway we simply don't know who's going to be a regular. Lampard is the only real nailed on starter IMO but will he discover the form of previous seasons?

To many unanswered questions about Chelsea so far.

Good point. They do have the potential to hit big scores. I am applying the same premise to the inclusion of Nani in my team. He won't play every week so I have to get adequate cover. Lamps is 12 million though, a bit of a stretch for me.

The United players - other than Rooney - are all massive rotation doubts

Chelsea have some terrific fixtures after week 1, and you would expect them to hit the ground running with a new manager. VB's Porto played some lovely attcking football last season - Lamps and Malouda are proven FPL point scorers and I wouldn't put it past Chelsea to smash teams early doors. As for Torres and drogs, they wont be getting anywhere my team unless they go ape sh*t in pre-season...and they're not at the moment

I'd swap Roonpig for RVP Week3
Before that, no need for Arsenal IMO.
            Sess/O'Hara/Taarabt/Sinclair?

If Cesc leaves, I wonder if Ramsey might end up being a fantasy darling?

If Cesc and Nasri leave, Wilshere will have a much bigger role and is nailed on.

He has been v solid in pre-season and getting good assists.

I think Ramsey will be rotated.

very similar to my team altho i have gone RVP and Sessegnon instead of Rooney and Wilshire. I dont feel wilshere will get enough points to cover arsenal. Altho i am missing any united attack. Wayne is superb and could be the main man in any FPL team

Marveux, Gibbs, Rafael. Tell us why u've picked them? Nice team BTW. Solid mid and strong attack. How came u have enough cash?

I cheaped out in places to fit in a strong forward/mid. Gibbs has potential for assists, and Rafael has potential for that plus goals.

I knew about Marveux for awhile, lets see if he can do it in the Prem. I think he's a quality player, and a French mate of mine said he's the best out of the Toon's French selection (I think Ben Arfa is).

Maybe change schwartzer to another goalkeeper with a more reliable defense.. but the front three are big hitters, however, you should wait to see who's more likely to start most games for liverpool in attack

Right, here is a now 100m RMT (FPL stole 1.5m the last time) and would be most appreciated if you would give your opinions on it or any advice where I could improve:

    Given (Ruddy)
    Baines/Cole/Kompany (Simpson/Orr)
    Malouda/Yaya/Taarbat/Moses(Sinclair)
    Bent/Carroll/Holt.

I like it personally speaking - enough captain options in there and covers the early fixtures ok.

But again - advice/opinions always valued.

    Thanks.

Defence is the main area I (and I know nearly everyone else did last season) struggled with so I would rather have a set defence that I don't intend to touch rather than a mid-range set that I'm not gonna be happy with. Baines and Cole for their attacking potential, Kompany is a gimmie at 6m.

Moses played great last year when N'Zogs was out.

Has shown signs of great play in the EPL, unlike Boselli last year.

Plus he is a 5M mid that will sit on your bench mostly and has had a solid start the to pre-season.

CHANGED IT A MILLION TIMES ALREADY! I NEED SOME OUTSIDE INPUT HERE TO PREVENT ME GOING INSANE WITH STRESS! LOL

    RUDDY/GIVEN

    KOMPANY/HANGELAND/A.COLE/RAMAGE/SIMPSON

    V.D.V/BARTON/OHARA/TAARABT(is he staying put now?)/N'ZOGBIA

    ROONEY/RODALLEGA/ZAMORA

THOUGHTS?? I think my mid is a bit on the weak side but 5 of the 5 are pretty much nailed on for set piece duties. That was my thinkin behind it. Come on then, give it to me straight. Its pants isnt it? lol

VDV has some tough opening matches with tottenham but he is a good choice in the long run, personally I'm putting him after gameweek 3 probably. your team apart from that looks pretty good, rodallega is a good choice seeing as wigan have not got too much talent in attack apart from rodallega, also rooney looks to be on fire in the preseason. I would probably take VDV out and either replace him with another big hitter, say maybe malouda seeing as chelsea have lovely opening fixtures, you may have to make a cut to get the extra 0.5mil to get malouda in but I personally think it's worth it
