Despite his exertions for Uruguay in this month’s Copa America, it seems Luis Suarez may well be ready for Liverpool’s opening game of the season at home to Sunderland.

The forward has been given a three-week break by his club but reports have surfaced in this morning’s papers suggesting he will cut short his holiday in preparation for the start of the 2011/12 campaign.

Suarez, voted Player of the Tournament for Uruguay as they swept aside Paraguay in Sunday‘s final, has already had a substantial rest period over the past few months; while at Ajax, he served a seven-match ban for biting an opponent in late November last year and had a fortnight break prior to the Copa America. Fears of burn-out, therefore, seem slightly off the mark.

While there has been no official line from either club or player on the matter, the story, nevertheless, carries significant weight for Fantasy managers as they continue tinkering with their squads ahead of the season opener on 13th August.

Liverpool’s starting trio of matches reads (SUN, ars, BOL) and Suarez, priced at just 9.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has already shown in the second half of last season just how integral he will be to Kenny Dalglish’s side next term- a look at our Members Area confirms we have similarly high expectations for Suarez in 2011/12. For those looking for early Liverpool forward investment, Andy Carroll, at 10.0, looks the better bet until the situation offers more clarity.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I don't think Hangelaand is worth the money with Martibn Jol in charge at Fulham, someone like Bramble should do better and is cheaper, I'd downgrade O'Hara too to someone you'll be happier benching and use the cash to up one of the strikers.

Changed loads of times, but still not that great.

Hangeland, O'Hara and Rodallega should be replaced.

interesting thoughts lads. I thought hangeland was a good bet given he was outstanding last season and bagged a few goals as well. Also o'hara really impressed at wolves and was on set pieces. Rodallega has good fixtures in the first 3 GW so that was my thinking behind him. perhaps a o'hara downgrade is a decent option. Cheers for the input lads.

My deliberations seem to be coming down to:

    a) Lampard and Holt

    or

    b) Malouda/Silva and Zamora

Lampard feels overpriced, but it does allow easier rejigging of the midfield having the expensive guy in there at the start.

      B is much stronger.

It allows for change in case things go wrong. Malouda > VdV/Nani/Young/Silva is one step away, and so is Zamora > Ba, Rodallega, Beckford etc.

Besides, I think Zamora and Malouda are better picks anyway.

i thought the point of buying brown and o'shea is so you don't have to play the like of michael turner. for me at least it's clear that steve bruce sees himself inside of turner (probably literally the way he keeps picking him) and that's why he has a soft spot or him.

        "Sunderland
On 23 July 2010, Bramble joined Sunderland for a fee believed to be £1 million, and signed a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light. He was labelled as a 'bargain' by many football pundits after his transfer to Sunderland, this has been backed up by his accomplished performances early on in the 2010-2011 season. Games he has played in include the 1-1 draw with Arsenal, the 0-0 draw with Manchester United and the 1-0 victories over Man City and Aston Villa."

        "Wigan Athletic
Titus Bramble signed for Wigan Athletic on a free transfer, agreeing to a three-year-deal on 4 June 2007. On 2 January 2008, Bramble scored a memorable goal at Anfield in a 1–1 draw against Liverpool – a 20-yard strike handing Wigan a late equaliser.[12]
Bramble scored a dramatic equaliser against Newcastle United at St. James' Park, the match finishing in a 2–2 draw on 15 November 2008. Bramble has expressed his gratitude to Wigan manager Steve Bruce for having faith in him when no one else did and for making him the player he is today. His performances throughout the 08/09 season picked him up four awards at the club's awards night, including 'Player of the Year' and 'Player's Player of the Year' for Wigan. On 14 July 2009 he was rewarded with a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2012."

    For GW1, 4-3-3

    Al Habsi (Given)

Riise Kompany Luiz (TBC) Alcaraz + (Simpson)

Taarabt Fat Frank N'Zogbot + (Barton, Ferguson)

    Roondang Bent Johnson (FUL)

Hmm... so nothing to add on GKs, it's just about the most popular combo and it's easy to see why.

Liking Jol starting Riise in midfield pre-season, although could change but boy still has a hammer and willing to use it. Kompany speaks for itself, Alcaraz has good srating fixtures, but Luiz remains my bone of contention. Really want Chelski Def, really don't want to pay for Cole.

Mid should provide plenty of assist potential, plus goals from N'Zogbot/Fat Frank, as should Barton when I play him GW 2. Ferguson cheap filler and Taarabt is my untested gamble, but should weigh in with assist/pens.

Upfront, Roondang for West Brom GW1, then poss switch to Chelski Att (when I have a clue who it might be), Bent has pens and good early fixtures, while like Ful attackers early because UEFA qualifers better than any pre-season run-out for match sharpness. Jol has so far pired him with Zamora (too pricey for me) and should have some assist potential.

So, there you have it, a team by-and-large fully formed with a bit of explanation for some/all of you to slate, praise or otherwise.

You have any money left over to include Chelsea coverage in GW2 because you'll want at least one of them for Gw2 and 3

Richards was City regular last year, he has also played every game pre season... City havent bought anyone else in who plays RB, so I dont see him missing any games this year unless he gets injured/ form drops considerably. Clichey is a far bigger gamble, but I think he will start in front of Kolarov.

Orr I dont know a great deal about... Any reccomendation for 4m defenders?

0 in bank, so thinking to perhaps downgrade Zamora to Holt can bring Chelsea midfield in at GW2.

Completely new to this site having only found it yesterday. I have been playing FFL for a good number of years but become addicted over the last couple of seasons. I have picked my opening day team as follows but would love some feedback from others on here:

    Hart
    Kompany, Flanagan, Huth
Sinclair, Adam, VDV (C), Barton, Taarabt
    Rooney (V) Holt
    Subs:
    Ruddy, Simpson, Tate, Graham
    4 million in the bank

Was planning to swap Hart after game week 1 and do want Suarez in but not sure when he will start the season.
Also what does RMT stand for?
    Any replies gratefully received.

Norwich captain and regular scorer. Would prefer 2 established big guns up front such as suarez and rooney but the suarez situation is unclear and Dalglish is insistent that he won't play him if he needs to rest.

Never make a prelim plan to swap a goalkeeper. It's setting yourself up for failure early on.

Flanagan isn't going to start, Huth is overpriced, Graham isn't a good choice for a striker spot considering they're some of your most valuable positions.

That reads Tiote right? He's fantasy dirt, choose Nathan Dyer instead for a guaranteed starter at Swansea.

Thank you for your comments above much appreciated. I had my heart set on this team after a ridiculous amount of transfers. Thanks for the advice on the keeper situation. Hart is expensive but city are a mean defence, was thinking of Given or Foster if he goes to WBA. Flanagan was a starter towards the end of last season and looks good. Huth scores goals. Graham is my 3rd choice striker to start with, would prefer 2 big guns & Holt as back up. No Tiote, Joey Barton instead. Now that Nolan has gone Barton will be the Big Gun at NUFC. I researched Swansea and the players I chose were pretty much regulars last season.
You are absolutely spot on about your mind being blown apart!

Yes I'm not too sure on Adam either due to the large number of midfielders at Liverpool but I think that Dalglish will stick to a nucleus of players and not rotate as much as previous managers. Plus they are not in Europe so they will be more focused on the league. Dalglish has the same mentality as Shankly & Paisley and will try to stick to an established squad of players rather than copping and changing.

Don't hink Dalglish will play 3 up front. He needs wingers to feed Carroll. Expect the midfield and forward line to look like this once every one is fit:
Downing, Adam, Henderson with Kuyt in a free role behind Carroll and Suarez. Once Gerrard is fit he will no doubt rotate him in the squad.

    Kompany, Terry, R.Johnson (Orr, Ward)
Lamps, Yaya, Murphy, Moses (N Dyer)
    Rooney, Bent, Zamora

Should I change Terry and RJ for two 6/6.5 defenders or upgrade Murphy?

    Any ideas welcome!

    Given, Al-Habsi
    Cashley, Kompany, Hughes, Bramble, Simpson
    Silva, N'Zogbia, Sessegnon, Taarabt, Dyer
    Van Persie, Suarez, Zamora

Almost happy with my team, but not quite. Here's my two main concerns:

    1. Tempted by Rooney for Man Utd attacking cover. Do I need him? If so, do I swap him for RVP or find a away to get both in?

    2. I'm concerned my midfield is a little weak. Where would you downgrade to free up funds?

      1. I'm not sold on Rooney myself, but I appear in the minority. Suarez is also a slight risk IMO beecause Liverpool have SO MANY players who can get in the points now and it may not be clear who the best option is for a few weeks.

      2. I think the balance is ok.

JBiz, Sessegnon and Taarabt are both a risk to start with. Why not go for Barton and the slightly less risky Sinclair, then upgrade Silva to Malouda? Bring in Kenny who rotates better with Given and you get:

        Given, Kenny
        Cashley, Kompany, Hughes, Bramble, Simpson
        Malouda, N’Zogbia, Barton, Sinclair, Dyer
        Van Persie, Suarez, Zamora

        WHICH IS MY TEAM!

        That's actually quiet freaky. 🙂

I'm also thinking of starting with Rooney then bringing in RVP for GW4. Last minute descision TBH.

Actually, I've got Carroll over Suarez too, but still pretty damn close. I really do think that Carroll is the sensible choice to start with. We know he'll play, and we know he'll be the centre forward. Yeas Suarez is awesome, but will he be shunted onto the wing like Rooney was a few seasons ago? With his massive ownership I can see some price drops if he misses the first game or two, so I think its best to wait.

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany Rafael O'shea (Simpson, Wilkinson)

    Rooney, RVP, Suarez

Not sure what other peoples thoughts on my plans are but as I, like most want a chelsea attacking player for their easy games but am unsure from Torres/Malouda/Lampard who is the player to have I am going to line up with the following team -

    Given (Kenny)
    Baines A.cole Kompany (Simpson)(Wilkinson)
    Osman Duff Sinclair Watson (Ferguson)
    Bent Carroll Zamora

This team leaves me with 5 mill in the bank so after Chelsea first game away at Stoke I can decide which player to bring in for their next game with just 1 transfer.

    Watson to Malouda
    Osman to Lampard
Zamora to Torres (1m left spare)

Watson comes out after their first 3 easyish games and can either be a straight swap to Walters/Tchoyi or if I end up bringing in Torres for Zamora then the extra 1m spare will get me Watson to Albrighton/Sessengon.

    Any thoughts on my plan?

    three questions :

    a) are there any defenders who take penalties? (maybe even second or third choice, other than baines)

    b) will aguero be anything more than 11m? considering dzeko came for 27m(?) and he started off at 9 i think. aguro will come for 38, so will be more than / worth the 11m i've kept aside for him?

i have 2m to upgrade either of :

marveaux, sinclair, ba or odemwingie to anyone of their respective postions. suggestions, please?

I don't think any players who came into the premiership have started with a price of over 10m in their first season. He is untested in the PL and will probably cost between 9-11m no more than that.

Right now, my main striker is Carroll...

Loads of service from Liverpool's midfield (I expect them to leak goals at the back though) and will receive a lot of assistance from Suarez when he's confirmed as playing.
