Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Asia has so far been relatively straightforward. Three games, three wins, no goals conceded and with every passing game, Andre Villas-Boas’ side are looking more threatening.

From a Fantasy perspective, however, matters are not quite so positive. Speaking at a press conference in Hong Kong, Andres Villas-Boas suggested that even his favoured formation, the 4-3-3, may possibly be open to change:

We have this idea of a 4-3-3 and we are focusing on it at the moment. It doesn’t mean we won’t go to other formations because you have to have this flexibility to challenge for the Premiership.

I think with the players’ experiences they are more able to do it. The 4-3-3 is a system for us in the end where it is not just a striker, it is three forwards in the end, and we have this flexibility in the squad.

It’s early days for Villas-Boas and with the club yet to make a significant move in the transfer market, it’s clear the new boss is weighing up every player currently in the Blues squad before turning his focus on replenishment.

What has been significant so far is the use of Yossi Benayoun- the Israeli made just 1 start and 6 sub appearances in an injury-blighted first season at Stamford Bridge but Villas-Boas has been utilising his talents as part of the Chelsea front three. Indeed, the player was singled out by the new boss, who suggested his inclusion offers the side more variety:

Yossi is a creative player coming from the channels to between the lines, so we have the flexibility to try different structures. We tried 4-4-2 in a diamond against Malaysia, 4-2-3-1 against Thailand in the second half, so we are getting bits and pieces with other formations, and we are pretty happy at the moment and not focusing a lot on the striking positions.

Starting at 7.0 in Fantasy Premier League -and classified as a midfielder- Benyoun could come into our thinking as an out-of-position player in the upcoming campaign if Villas-Boas decides to lean towards a definite starting XI next season. At present, though, this only increases the number of options available to Fantasy managers eyeing up Chelsea targets. Benayoun now seems likely to fight it out with Florent Malouda, Daniel Sturridge, Salomon Kalou and Nicolas Anelka for the two wide forward positions, as Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba continue to do battle for the lone central striker role.

The one real positive aspect here was the candid nature of the new manager- Villas-Boas seems quite happy to talk in length with regards to his thinking and Fantasy managers will be hoping his Friday press conferences mirror those of Carlo Ancelotti. The former Blues boss was the most “Fantasy friendly” manager of recent times, with his tendency to announce the Chelsea starting line-up a day or two in advance.

Given that last season’s runners-up have (WBA, NOR, SWA) in their first six games of the season, Fantasy managers will be hoping for more of the same clarity; with Chelsea likely to score big in those three games, second-guessing their players is a headache none of us need.

Why do you support Liverpool? 🙂

Who is your No 1 pen taker, now you've got Fat-boy from Blackpool?

Yes, I support Liverpool 😛 Started because I idolised Michael Owen, funny how things turn out 🙁

Penalty takers, first choice at the top:
        Gerrard (when fit)
        Kuyt
        Adam
        Suarez
        Carroll

It's nice knowing that we finally have options over dead balls!

Might take a look at Kuyt, and Suarez when you get a run of games.

First ever RMT, thoughts please, it's about version 9 of my squad:

    Given (Ruddy)
    Cashley, Kompany, Hughes (Wilkinson, Simpson)
    VDV, N'Zog, Moses, Taarabt (Sincair)
    Rooney, RVP, Holt

Not sure on Holt, but I have 0.0 in the bank and so can't see many good ways to upgrade him without losing players I don't want to...

Had Suarez for ages, then decided to wait, but do people think he'll go up massively in price after GW1? I guess if he plays and has a good game then yes, but how much is he likely to rise do we think?

Good team. I'd say downgrade either Rooney or RVP to either Carroll or Bent for a week and then transfer in Suarez. Use the extra money to upgrade Wilkinson, as if one of the three main defenders doesn't play then it won't be good!

2 seasons ago I experimented with a top defence and attack and mids made up of players around 6m. Was 12th overall by end of November. Went downhill after that but considering a similar approach. Prices are conducive to it. What think you?

    David Gill on MUTV:

Did you always know this summer would be a busy one?

Yeah, we knew that. Edwin made it known that last season would be his last so we had planned for a new goalkeeper well in advance. With the others [new arrivals Phil Jones and Ashley Young], the opportunities came along and we were comfortable with that. So we’ve made three signings. We're looking at one more player to bring in. Nothing’s happening – nothing imminent – on that at the moment, but we’ll see what happens when we get home. There’ll still be 31 days of the transfer window to see if anything develops. But I’m not working on anything at the moment, in that respect.

If you do end up signing somebody could it go right up to the deadline?

Possibly. We’ve been looking at a particular position and two or three players in that position, but nothing’s imminent at the moment. The important point to understand, and Alex has made it clear, is that we need someone who’s going to improve the quality of the squad. We’ve got a great squad and to get into that squad you need to be a world-class player. There’s no point, if you can’t get the players you want, in buying someone for the sake of buying someone. But you never know – there’s often movement in August. I’m not sitting here saying I’m working on anything specific because I’m not, but that situation could change quickly when we get back to Carrington.

Im assuming this is Sneijder. If so , i wonder if many will put him in their teams ?

    Question for the members...

Considering paying up for full membership, mainly to support the site, I only discovered it a couple of weeks ago but have spent hours on here..

    Wondering two things:

Is it worth it in terms of content? How much extra is there?
Do you feel this extra content improves your knowledge/team over the free content you can access already?

I know the sites answers to these questions but wanted to hear some opinions from the paying members themselves

Just signed up a couple of days ago, and if you want to help the site, then go for it. The points projection thing is the main benefit, which will definitely help you out. There's not too much else, but for £12 as a pre-season price, it's pretty good.

My first choice strikers for this season are Saurez and Van Persie. Arsenal have horrible fixtures till gameweek three and Saurez is supposedly out for the first game at least for Liverpool. What are people thinking Striker-wise for the first couple of gameweeks with these players, and who are you replacing them with? I was thinking Bent> VP Gwk 3 & Zamora > Suarez Gwk 2/3.

    Evening fella's..

What would your opinions be on backing Andy Carroll top prem scorer? 22/1 with paddy power, 1/4 the odds for 1-4?

    50 each way im thinking!?

i reckon they'll adapt their play around him this season with the purchase of downing and seeing how creative suarez is and even Adam on set pieces...and although he prob wont finish 1st, i can definitely see him finishing in top 4. giving me odds of almost 6/1 to finish top 4.

    advice greatly appreciated...
