This morning sees the return of that old favourite “Scout Scribbles”. We round up the most noteworthy of news or football rumours from the past 24 hours for your morning reading, with Spurs’ performance at MK Dons last night reminding us they have more than just one Croatian capable of making the headlines…

Nico Krancjar served a reminder of his talents last night in Tottenham’s 5-3 win at MK Dons. The Croatian played a part in 4 of his side’s goals, creating three and scoring one. Roman Pavlyuchenko grabbed Spurs’ opening two goals but Jermaine Defoe again struggled. Defoe, scorer of just 4 league goals last season, was given 75 minutes game time by Harry Redknapp last night but the England man failed to find the net again and has been linked with a move to Newcastle in this morning’s papers.

Nigel Reo Coker is set to follow Darren Pratley by moving to Bolton this summer. Signed by Villa for £8.5m four years ago, he will arrive at the Reebok on a free transfer and represents a savvy piece of business by Owen Coyle. He’ll offer plenty competition to a central midfield area that already has Stuart Holden, Fabrice Muamba and fellow new boy Pratley as the main contenders for a place in Coyle‘s starting line-up, though Reo-Coker is perhaps the most versatile of the four, and will offer Coyle options at right-back and right midfield. The Trotters boss has also been linked with a raid on former club Burnley for winger Chris Eagles and right-back Tyrone Mears, in addition to a move for Liverpool’s David N’Gog.

QPR have turned their attentions to Southampton’s Jason Puncheon as they look to boost the ranks at Loftus Road. Neil Warnock’s side have made a bid for the winger and offered centre-half Kaspars Gorkss in exchange. Puncheon spent last season on loan at Millwall and Blackpool and clearly has little future at St Mary’s, but Gorkss played a major part in helping QPR to last season’s Championship and a move away from the club at this stage will be something of a surprise. Ranked as the top QPR defender in our Members projections, such a move will see us readjust the figures accordingly.

Having missed out in the chase for Craig Gardner, Wolves are still very much in the market for a new central midfielder. Mick McCarthy has already snapped up Jamie O’Hara but has been linked with a loan move for Liverpool’s Jay Spearing and forgotten Man City man Michael Johnson. The club are also eyeing up Thomas Hitzlsperger, with the German a free agent after being released by West Ham following the club’s relegation last season.

West Brom look to be on the verge of signing a new keeper. With Scott Carson leaving the club this close season, Boaz Myhill is currently the number one but the Baggies have been strongly linked with both Robert Green and Ben Foster this summer. The club’s assistant manager Michael Appleton admitted last night

“Hopefully they’ll be one or two arrivals in the coming days…we’re at a stage where we’re nearer rather than further away from getting one or two in.”

Swansea have agreed a £1.75m fee with Middlesboro for Leroy Lita. The forward will travel to Wales to discuss personal terms later this week and follows Danny Graham in moving to the Liberty Stadium this summer. Brendan Rodgers’s 4-3-3 will offer only one of the pair a place in the starting line-up and with Graham being Swansea’s number one target this summer, Lita may well find himself warming the bench next term on more occasions than not.

Liverpool, it appears, are still in the market for Jose Enrique. The Newcastle left-back has just one year left on his contract but has fallen foul of the St James’ Park hierarchy of late, and was fined for criticising the club on twitter. With Enrique able to leave Newcastle for free next term, Kenny Dalglish is eyeing up a £5m bid.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Rod Stewart once had a vivid dream in which he and many of his close friends were a solution of water with around 9 parts per 100 of sodium chloride. He was so taken with this dream, that he made a song about his adventures. The record studio refused to release such a radical concept and reluctantly, Stewart was forced to make minor changes to the lyrics.

    A) Baines, Briggs and Taarabt
    B) Cole, Hughes and O'Hara

A has two penalty takers of whom should get the BPs when their teams win but the riskier Briggs.
B has 3 nailed on players but probably less chances of big scores.

Def keep an eye on Kun, but couldn;t disagree more about Rod vs Zamora. Rod is poor and plays for a poor team. Zamora had some form end of last season and plays for a better team.
Fair play if you get him and it pays off though!

Back line a bit odd for me - get a 4 million and invest in a bigger name, rather than Oshea and Gibbs...

Riise to Hughes... saves 1 million

Walcott rotation risk... (plus V V hot and cold) - RVP is enough cover for arsenal over the first 3 weeks

Worth looking at Villa DF's good games and rotate well with Fulham

Toure likely to be more defensive with the transfer of Aguero...

I am a fan of Roda personally think hes a bit of a bargin! (will be on Pens now Zog's gone)

Fair play, its good you are confident ad not too swayed by others...good luck to you!
But you seem to be implying you will bench Gibbs and Oshea, or is that just due to Wigans first game?
Anyway I would downgrade one and spread the cash as I say. Why do you need Sunderland and Arsenal def by the way?!
Rod has good fixtures but is crap, alas
Tchoyi could be great but is a big risk about his starting role..if he doesn turn out to be oop and starting I am there!

Riise is overpriced in my opinion, but as I say, you have clearly thought it through and good luck to you!

I'm getting more and more fond of a 3 big defenders/3 big strikers/ and cheaper midfield plan. E.g:

    Given, Kenny
    Kompany, Baines, Cole, (Collins, Simpson)
    Duff, Benayoun, Barton, Tchoyi, Moses
    RVP, Bent, Suarez + £0

Having those 3 strikers turning out every week is a toastie thought!

6.5 feels a bit too much for Barton to me anyway, particularly without Carroll in the side to aim at - I've seen the many sensible arguments in his favour, just a gut feeling thing.

I don't know if an expensive keeper is worth the extra outlay. The thing with Villa is that McCleish is famous for building his teams around defense and Given is renowned for making lots of saves. There aren't too many good alternatives out threre though in fairness. I miss Ben Foster 🙁

I won't lie I'd love to have the extra 2 million as my midfield is ropey at best but like you say, I'd rather have someone expensive and somewhat reliable & worst case downgrade later on if Given proves fruitfull

Villa has a new manager who is defensive in nature hence people thinking that given whom is a proven talent will score well.

He's in my team. Hart while good is too much money and the value you get can be spent better elsewhere.

I think Villa will improve on their CS tally from last year, but I'd have no qualms about going with an expensive keeper per sé. Just a matter of funds at the moment... but then, I'm not going with Given meself.

    What do you think:

    Given | Kenny

    Baines | Cole | Kompany | Hughes | Orr

    Albrighton | Taarabt | Benayoun | Yaya | Sinclair

    Carroll | Bent | Holt

I'm liking the look of it to be honest, not sure who i'd bench GW1 though..

I'm actually quite excited about Benayoun, I think he suits Villas-Boas' style of play, and at 7.0 is a steal for a creative player like him. No one in Chelsea's attacking play, bar maybe Lampard, is a certain starter right?

Not enough (or in fact any) solid captain choices for my liking.

This is why I don't like Bent at £10m or Baines at £8m. They eat into your ability to get big hitters in teh attacking positions, which is where your captaincy material comes from. I'm also struggling with Cole at £7.5m but its probably justifiable given Chelsea's early fixtures.

However, all your value is in your defence. Realistically how many defenders are you going to captain?

You need 3 solid captain choices ideally, and I'm afraid that the only one that I'd actually consider captaining out of that lot is Taarabt and even then its a gamble.

My theory is there's more points in using your free trades to bring in the best option rather than having to remove gambles that failed

They will both score well and are on pens.

Both may not score so many goals now that Bothroyd and Danny Graham are up front for their respective teams (and it looks like Taarabt will soon be having DJ to help him too) but it never hurts to have a penalty taker in your squad.

If QPR get DJ Campbell as is now seemingly going to happen then you would imagine Taarabt's chances of assists are going to be improved.

I would baulk at both of them in same team but one of either should be a decent return for your investment. Taarabt has the bigger upside.

Richards rotation risk? Kompany appears to be the safest Citeh option for same price.

Rafeal has similar issues as does Nani. I'd be inclined to downgrade Nani and Rafael to a £4.5m def and £6m mid and try and get in RVP, Rooney or Tevez instead of Suarez.
