When it comes to midfielders, Arsene Wenger doesn’t have his troubles to seek. The Gunners boss, having seen his side’s pre-season preparation blighted by the continual speculation over the futures of skipper Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, has confirmed Theo Walcott has flown home from the club’s training camp in Bonn due to an injury picked up in training.

Walcott sat out Monday’s training and boarded a flight home from Germany yesterday, ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup. The Arsenal boss, while not suggesting it’s a serious problem, did admit:

“Theo went home early and was due to have an MRI on Tuesday. It is an old ankle injury from the end of last season. It’s one that comes and goes.

“We need some more investigation because sometimes he’s completely free of it and sometimes it affects him. But we had to send him back because he couldn’t practice anymore.”

The news is a source of frustration for Fantasy managers- Walcott looks good for plenty starts on the right this season and coming in at 9.0 in Fantasy Premier League, may prove to be something of a bargain if one, or both, of Fabregas and Nasri follow the lead of Gael Clichy and depart for pastures new.

While new signing Gervinho could be an alternative in his possible absence, FPL have classified the former Lille man as a forward, and priced him at 9.0. Robin Van Persie is likely to be the front man of choice for the majority of Fantasy managers, however, leaving many to hope the likes of Nasri stays put, with the Frenchman surely a nailed-on starter for Wenger in the upcoming season.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Another easy shot at the games industry.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/norway/8663329/Norway-Anders-Behring-Breivik-used-online-war-games-as-training.html

I appreciate that he supposedly said this in his manifesto

“It is probably the best military simulator out there and it’s one of the hottest. I see MW2 more as part of my training-simulation than anything else.”

But come on. People have to have a screw loose in the first place. I don't feel like going out killing people after playing CoD. I certainly don't think it's a training simulator. Using a controller and shooting a gun are slightly different. Also, why bring World of Warcraft into it, he didn't go around killing people with magical spells!

The games and movies kill argument will never go away, I don't think. It's obvious bollocks but people will always buy into it. If you have psychological problems anyway, anything can potentially be damaging. Every form of sensory input can't be banned for fear of setting someone down a road of violence. There are violent books out there, lets ban books! Cobblers...

Games are just another form of entertainment, just like movies, books and music etc. Before computer games, serial killers usually had favourite books, movies or songs, which they drew inspiration from for their motives... it's the same thing to me. People say that in a computer game you actually act out the killing like you're there, but that's the same in a book - a good book makes you feel part of the story, and connect with the characters. All this crap about violent computer games will blow over eventually when computer games become even more engrained in society.

I'm no shrink but for me it seems logical to assume that it is the person's own mental issues, social alienation and bloodlust that leads them to immerse themselves in these forms of entertainment.

Not the other way about. Just a guess though.

was awesome, put this guy in a catatonic trance (unaware) while playing an arcade shootem up zombie game in a pub. Then took him round the corner on a hospital bed into a replica environment, locked him in there with a real looking paintball gun and had zombie actors in there. Looked cool, he flipped out

Unfortunately he is bound to come in at over 4.5, despite the fact that he will get the same number of points that Myhill would have done (probably slightly less as he will let at least 2 goals through his legs)

I though AL-Habsi might be 5.0 though and he's 4.5 I think they consider the club a lot more with keepers and so I could see Foster possibly being 4.5 although 5 is much more likely.

I'm reading through the Guardian's Secret Footballer articles.

I really like that guy, he seems to be on the same wavelength as me. I'm trying to work out who it is, picking bits out of the articles. Anyone fancy a stab?

He has faced relegation at least once

He was once winded by Howard Webb

He used to play in a team with someone called Paolo, who was an expert at "winning free kicks". Implies he was a diver.
    http://www.soccerbase.com/players/search.sd?search=paolo&type=player

    Married, with one daughter

Possibly from London (uses rhyming slang)

Once won a free-kick playing at Old Trafford - perhaps an attacking player?

Plays with someone foreign who is always late

Doctor has "promised hip and knee replacements"

    Really likes redknapp

Has been transferred between premier league clubs.

He also seems to be a senior player, a few years from retirement.

Bruce said the other day that Brown and O'Shea could both play as full backs (O'Shea left back i presume) with Bramble and Turner in the middle. As their first game is away at Liverpool I'd wait and see their lineup before putting any of their defenders in.

    Hello Chaps!

Spending all my free time tinkering these days - have a nice core for the team I think but still have a few problem positions...

    Given (Ruddy)

    A Cole Kompany Warnock (Simpson)(Brown)

    Lampard Downing Duff (Tchyoi)(Moses)

    Rooney Zamora Odem

A few questions - any ideas for descent alternatives to simpson and brown? Simpson at 4.0 I'm happy enough to start with but Brown at 4.5 will either be great or pure muck! Any opinions?

Didn't start with a big hitter in midfield last year and probably paid for it so despite my better judgement I've gone with Lamps in the hope he will be rejuvenated under new management... but noticed a lot of frank hate on here - any reason for that?

Duff - he seems to be performing well in pre-season - but I've read that with Riise coming in a left back that Briggs could be pushed into left mid - what does that mean for duff? will he get less starts?

Am I taking too big of a risk going for both Tchyoi and Moses? I think both could be big performers this year - now that nzog is headed to villa surely moses is guaranteed more starts as a creative force? or will young mccarthy assume that role at wigan?

For me there are must haves this year in ff - Given - with mcleish installed villa should tighten up at the back, but not too tight and given should make plenty of saves. A Cole - went without him before but with Villa Boas attacking fulback strategy I can see him claiming assists this year. Kompany - no brainer. Downing - 2nd highest cross completion rate last season, carrol in the box, and little competition on pools left wing means he's a cert for me. I've started Rooney - would hve went RVP but for the opening fixtures, will likely change in wk4. Zamora to benefit from Jols attacking strategy and Odem to continue banging them in under roy.

My 2 cents! Would love to hear your opinions.

We've got Duff, Dempsey, Davies, Dembele all potential left / right mids, Briggs won't get a look in there. He played in front of Riise last week due to Demps and Dembele not being fit / available. Duff has been bang on form in our European games so far performance-wise but I don't think it'll translate well to FPL points.

I think Zamora's a great bet at the price and Dembele is well worth a watch is you want a cheap prospect.

In defense I like 4 but Brown I would look to upgrade by .5 to maybe Hughes at fulham? good home rotation with Warnock!

Lampard/Malouda is a personal preference thing... (I've got Malouda as the 1.5m is spent elsewhere)

Over duff i'd have Murphy (pens and freekicks)

Odem - fixtures are tough (Rodallega is 6.5m and good run of games...

besides those personal preferences its a strong looking side (I like the fact you have 1 big hitter in each position - allows easy transfers)

A hughes warnock rotation looks great actually!

I'd worry about malouda - I think sturridge will take starts from him this year so I went with frank to start with.

I do have to find a duff alternative, I'll take a look at murphy.

Odem I feel can score against anyone - but then again, that's based on last seasons form. Rodallega could be a great buy but I think wigan are going down this year - by the looks of things they havent strengtened at all - in saying that, if they they stay up it will because of rodallegas goals!

        Thanks for your thoughts!

There is a lot of teams RMTing at the moment and discussing the whole rotation of home team defenders to get cleanies....

Who used this tactic last year and found it to be successful?

Defenders on bad teams still leak goals at home regardless so what I am wondering is do you all think its worth bending over backwards having your 3rd choice midfelder rotate with your sub or just stick with the player you want??

I did the second last season - was wondering if there are extra points in this tactic this season???

yeah I went for A.Cole, Simpson, Jagkeika and 2 mid priced defenders last season.

It just caused to much frustration in the end, the mid priced defenders kept conceding at silly times and then keeping random clean sheets when they were on my bench!

So this season, I've decided 3 good defenders and then I don't have to worry about them. Even when they play away Chelsea/Man City are always good for clean sheets and Everton can get cheap 0-0 draws sometimes + Baines assists etc

Cole/Kompany/Baines is top notch and I can see why you do it...

            £21.5m on three defenders... +2x 4m 29.5m

I have Cole, Kompany, Hughes, Collins, Simpson... 28.5m

Only saves me a million, but its a tatic i've always used.

All I know is that it was painful having someone like A.Cole on or Hart and then having them let a goal in. There premium players that soley depend on clean sheets to make them worth while. Maybe not A.Cole so much but you get my point, with defenders and A+ goalies being more than ever, you really need to make sure they are worth the longterm investment that they will cost you in your midfield and up front.

Moses looks to be the best buy at 5.0 since he is most likely to see regular time on the pitch and is predicted to have a break out year with N'Zogs now gone.

Who is predicting him to have a breakout year other than fantasy managers on this message board?

        Just asking...

I have fingers crossed he will be a suitable 5th midfielder buy but can't imagine him having a breakout season at lowly Wigan which would justify starting him on a regular basis. He's pretty raw if you've watched the games and his vision isn't where it needs to be to have an impact in the Premier League just yet.

4 goals and 4 assists would be an amazing season in my opinion for him if he got 25+ starts.

If you think of it he would be guaranteed to play in goal for the first time ever in the Premiership(arguably the best league in the world) if he stayed at Swansea.

I am tentative about Maxi as we do not know the situation with liverpool so any suggestions for a change? I had terry and a couple of chelsea players last year being essien and kalou who were very dissapointing, I would consider Torres if we knew he would start and luiz or alex but again chelsea are a mad club? Why would Bothroyd not start?
