Walcott Flies Home with Ankle Injury

When it comes to midfielders, Arsene Wenger doesn’t have his troubles to seek. The Gunners boss, having seen his side’s pre-season preparation blighted by the continual speculation over the futures of skipper Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, has confirmed Theo Walcott has flown home from the club’s training camp in Bonn due to an injury picked up in training.

Walcott sat out Monday’s training and boarded a flight home from Germany yesterday, ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup. The Arsenal boss, while not suggesting it’s a serious problem, did admit:

“Theo went home early and was due to have an MRI on Tuesday. It is an old ankle injury from the end of last season. It’s one that comes and goes.

“We need some more investigation because sometimes he’s completely free of it and sometimes it affects him. But we had to send him back because he couldn’t practice anymore.”


The news is a source of frustration for Fantasy managers- Walcott looks good for plenty starts on the right this season and coming in at 9.0 in Fantasy Premier League, may prove to be something of a bargain if one, or both, of Fabregas and Nasri follow the lead of Gael Clichy and depart for pastures new.

While new signing Gervinho could be an alternative in his possible absence, FPL have classified the former Lille man as a forward, and priced him at 9.0. Robin Van Persie is likely to be the front man of choice for the majority of Fantasy managers, however, leaving many to hope the likes of Nasri stays put, with the Frenchman surely a nailed-on starter for Wenger in the upcoming season.

    Hey guys could I get your opinions on my team please?

    Given,Al Habsi

    Kompany, Hughes, Bramble, Simpson, Orr

    Vdv, Barton, O’hara, Silva, Nzogbia

    Rooney, Suarez, Rodallega

    I reckon it looks pretty well balanced, i’ve gone for the cheap defence route so I can have more captaincy options, the only problem is not havin any chelsea coverage, as far as I can tell.
    What do you guys think?

        On the Hoolahan front I sort of agree but he did have 36 starts, 10 goals and 9 assists last year. He played at the tip of the Norwich midfield diamond, plus he may be benched quite a lot!

        On the Rafael uncertainty I did consider Samba or Jagielka if he goes to Arsenal

        You have to stay the night in hospital for the most minor concussion. I doubt he'll be too much of a risk.

      even the slightest of concussions warrant days of doing virtually nothing. No way he'll play. I got a fairly medium grade concussion and i couldn't even read or watch tv.

        There was a discussion on Warnock/Hughes earlier. Warnock could get the odd assist, but will pick up bookings while Hughes will do neither.

        if foster moves to wba and costs 4.5, what do you think about an alhabsi/foster combo instead of the usual given/ruddy combo for the same price. use foster more often but have al habsi for gw1 sounds like a plan.
