When it comes to midfielders, Arsene Wenger doesn’t have his troubles to seek. The Gunners boss, having seen his side’s pre-season preparation blighted by the continual speculation over the futures of skipper Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, has confirmed Theo Walcott has flown home from the club’s training camp in Bonn due to an injury picked up in training.

Walcott sat out Monday’s training and boarded a flight home from Germany yesterday, ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup. The Arsenal boss, while not suggesting it’s a serious problem, did admit:

“Theo went home early and was due to have an MRI on Tuesday. It is an old ankle injury from the end of last season. It’s one that comes and goes.

“We need some more investigation because sometimes he’s completely free of it and sometimes it affects him. But we had to send him back because he couldn’t practice anymore.”

The news is a source of frustration for Fantasy managers- Walcott looks good for plenty starts on the right this season and coming in at 9.0 in Fantasy Premier League, may prove to be something of a bargain if one, or both, of Fabregas and Nasri follow the lead of Gael Clichy and depart for pastures new.

While new signing Gervinho could be an alternative in his possible absence, FPL have classified the former Lille man as a forward, and priced him at 9.0. Robin Van Persie is likely to be the front man of choice for the majority of Fantasy managers, however, leaving many to hope the likes of Nasri stays put, with the Frenchman surely a nailed-on starter for Wenger in the upcoming season.

he's about the same as last year, 8.5 or 9 last year i think? i'm not the biggest fan of him as a player but he's usually playing basically as a striker and has 3 nice home games in the first 5 and blackburn away

I'm really not sold on Taarabt. From what I read in the (ahem) metro in the mornings, QPR seem to have a lot of fighting going on behind the scenes. I think they may struggle early on.

been thinking about benayoun myself, is he worth the gamble though, if he dont play you've got no chelsea attacking coverage with their nice opening fixtuers, maybe rooney>torres or downgrade rooney and have lampard too?

true without nzogbia rodallega will be wigan's main goal threat

Unfortunately wigan's goal threat will be terrible, too. nzogbia leaving has made rodallega worse, not better.

i would agree with that very similar to mine except for hart in goal and malouda for benayoun and toure for wilshere....

cheaper 3rd striker is Holt - know its a bandwagon but he did topscore by a long way for Norwich last season and seems to be their main goal source

think i might have my final team for start of season:

    Hart (Ruddy)
Hughes Kompany A. Cole (Simpson Orr)
    N'Zogbia Malouda Taarabt Wilshere (Tiote)
Rooney Suarez(might start with gervinho perhaps)Holt

Got lots of room for switches later:
Wilshere for Ramsey depending on who plays
Malouda for VdV or Lamps if he doesn't play much
Suarez for Gervinho at first and maybe later if he does well
Rooney for VanP if Rooney flops again
Cole for Luiz if Arsenal buy Alex
    etc.
Im pretty happy with that - can anyone find any faults?

You don't have that much room to wiggle.

Double on City defenders leaves you light up top if you need their players. Two 4.5s are better than a 5, 4, 4 arrangement.

Wilshere and Tiote are poor picks, Malouda is a rotation risk. Might need to rethink a bit.

i will only need one more city player and that would be an easy switch.
I'm hoping not to have to use tiote much - can you think of a better 4.5mil mid? With wilshere, if he starts and is playing well i can stick with him, if not I can switch to one of the hundreds of 6.5 mids 😉

      Lack of captaincy options.

Downgrade Hughes and O'Shea to save more money, then replace Cahill for someone more captaincy worthy.

It is fairly generic in terms of structure, but you could choose better players imo.

Anyone watch the Villa/Blackburn game today. Pretty lacklustre game, but expected in those temperatures.

Just thought I'd mention that Mauro Formica played well, and was quite tricky had a few decent shots on goal. Yet, hes hasnt been added to Blackburn squad even though he signed in Jan.

As an attacking midfielder, he could be added at a bargain price. With Blackburn's opening three fixtures looking pretty decent, he may be worth a punt.

    RMT

Plan is to spend little in midfield where value seems to be at a premium and concentrating on cheap set piece takers for respective clubs. Hoping for some appreciation in value as weeks progress.

Also I have included Tevez provisionally due to fixtures but can easily change to either Rooney or RVP if he leaves.

    Thoughts/recommendations appreciated.

Points per game he scores better than Bale or Modric. He only had about 13 or 14 games with Wolves last season. If he manages to play 25 - 30 games he should score well over 100 points for the season.

    RMT please

    Given

    Kompany, Jagielka, Hughes (fulham)

    VDV, Kuyt, Yaya, Albrighton

    Rooney, Suarez, K. Davies

I know theres talk of Luis Suarez not starting but im sure he will be fit in time for the first game, i think it might just be tactical talk from old kenny, just my opinion, also interested in others.

Hmmmm ... Hernandez spends the night in the hospital due to 'concerns over a concussion' which leave him in doubt for the final game of United's US tour vs. Barcelona.

I know SAF is never misleading due to injuries 😉 but methinks I just read a "Berbatov gets start vs. Barca" article.

Silva, Van Der Vaart, N'Zogbia, Sessegnon, Dyer

      Van Persie, Suarez, Zamora

      rotation with fabio,
      likely starter on the left,
      not sure,
may miss first couple of games then get rotated with nani but usually play,
if they don't sign modric looks decent for a place

i think rotation is becoming more of a factor with top 6 these days, with so many games and bigger squads. Do you agree with this?

I reckon Adam will play most the time. Downing too depending on formation. Valencia will fight it out with Nani and Young, but should see a fair bit of action.

      No nails involved though
