When it comes to midfielders, Arsene Wenger doesn’t have his troubles to seek. The Gunners boss, having seen his side’s pre-season preparation blighted by the continual speculation over the futures of skipper Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, has confirmed Theo Walcott has flown home from the club’s training camp in Bonn due to an injury picked up in training.

Walcott sat out Monday’s training and boarded a flight home from Germany yesterday, ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup. The Arsenal boss, while not suggesting it’s a serious problem, did admit:

“Theo went home early and was due to have an MRI on Tuesday. It is an old ankle injury from the end of last season. It’s one that comes and goes.

“We need some more investigation because sometimes he’s completely free of it and sometimes it affects him. But we had to send him back because he couldn’t practice anymore.”

The news is a source of frustration for Fantasy managers- Walcott looks good for plenty starts on the right this season and coming in at 9.0 in Fantasy Premier League, may prove to be something of a bargain if one, or both, of Fabregas and Nasri follow the lead of Gael Clichy and depart for pastures new.

While new signing Gervinho could be an alternative in his possible absence, FPL have classified the former Lille man as a forward, and priced him at 9.0. Robin Van Persie is likely to be the front man of choice for the majority of Fantasy managers, however, leaving many to hope the likes of Nasri stays put, with the Frenchman surely a nailed-on starter for Wenger in the upcoming season.

Is Suarez likely to start til after the international break? He's going to be a must have at some point but at GW1? you might pick him up cheaper GW3...

the rest looks solid to me

There are mixed reports at the moment, closer towards season start all with become clear. It isn't too bad to have him penciled in as he can be quick-transfered out for someone equal.

      Two poinys.

Within the article, it does strongly suggest that such a tactic would be rare.

Watched game and Lamps sat in front of back 4 but roamed forward on a number of occassions as Benayoun and Zhirkov tucked in. Plus with Drogs on pitch, Lamps took priority over spot kicks.

Redone my team so many times I am going cross eyed now ... your thoughts are welcome:

    Al-Habsi (Given)
    Simpson/A Cole/Kompany (O'Shea/Huth)
O'Hara/Taarabt/Yaya/N'Zog (Moses - assumes Villa deal for N'Zog is on)
    Zamora/Rooney/Carroll

I would go Suarez after GW3. Until then Zamora provides a cheaper option and allows an upgrade for Hoillet if you want it...

Would swap out Albrighton for MGP if N'Zog move goes through.

other than that looks good to me. Solid Defence.

Yes it is a problem and we don't know who will line up for Chelsea. Lets face it though Cashley is not really decent cover for Chelsea's attacks - was very poor last year.

I considered having both, but realised that was me being biased/ mental. I have wilshere... yes, he currently doesn't suit FF points system, but he will only keep improving; gets a lot of minutes; involved in most play but is a bit more of a metronome rather than impact player (atm).
Ramsey is one to keep eye on, better shot & gets goals arriving late to box... will improve a lot over course of season, but probably slower to make his mark than Wilshere, imo.
Factor in Fabregas+Nasri exits and Mata/ other incomings...

    Good evening gents.
    I'm seriously considering doubling up on AV and QPR in defence...just for the hell of it. The rotation lokks like this ;
BOL, BLA, WOL, NEW, NEW, AVL, WIG, BLA, WBA.

The players I've picked are Given and Collins/ Kenny and Orr.

ACole and Kompany would be my other starters with Simpson as the bench option.

I reckon McLeish will have Villa performing defensively and I accept QPR are newly promoted (good at the back in the championship and may have early season buzz).

    Comments please

        Fixtures be damned!

VdV is pretty much fixture proof and is Spurs pens. He's in my team and he's staying.

How many times during the season last term did we all go for players with 'nice fixtures' and find out they did naff all?

          Fair enough nomar!
I don't fancy VDV for more reasons other than fixtures.
I think he got a lot of goals playing with Crouch providing knock ons. Crouch won't start regularly.
I also think Modric and possibly Krankjar could rob him of BPs this season.

Sessegnon seems to be a bit of a bandwagon ATM. He finished the season well, Bruce loves him, playing in the hole and good pre season form.
Albrighton has gone up the pecking order on the AV wings with Young and Downing gone. They have better opening fixtures than Sunderland.

      I would say 51/49 in Sessegnon's favour

Planned transfers always end bad, do not have any player in your starting line up that you only intend to keep for 1 week. The amount of things that occur in week 1 you wont need a pre-planned trade already hanging over you. Trust me, i know from experience, and the decision to focus on "3 blinding weeks", its short sighted. Its a long season, dont try and win it in the first 4 weeks. I steadily rose from 20,000 to 491.
