After a two-week hiatus, our Friday evening analysis of the armband options in the Gameweek ahead comes around again. Our three-part approach takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Captain Poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

Captain Poll

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea’s Diego Costa leads the way after notching four times in his first three appearances. The Spain international once again heads into the weekend with hamstring doubts hanging over his pitch time but, after recovering from a similar problem to bag a brace at Goodison in Gameweek 3, he has earned the nod from over 29% of Fantasy managers so far as Jose Mourinho’s side welcome Swansea to the Bridge.

Despite scoring just twice in their first three matches under Louis van Gaal, United are still heavily backed for their home encounter against QPR. Radamel Falcao and Wayne Rooney sit second and fourth respectively in the Captain Poll and the Colombian’s previous ability to settle quickly in his new surrounds have persuaded 15% to select him compared to Rooney’s 13%. Harry Redknapp’s side have shipped four goals in their only road trip to date but a switch from 3-5-3 to 4-4-1-1 earned the R’s their first clean sheet of the campaign last time around.

Liverpool’s attackers are also high in our collective estimations. Raheem Sterling is the favoured option from Brendan Rodgers’ side – after scoring in two of his first three appearances, the youngster has picked up over 13% of your votes for a plum home clash with Aston Villa. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined for the Merseysiders, Mario Balotelli could be a real differential for this one, bearing in mind he’s owned by less than 6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

In spite of a testing clash with City at the Emirates, Arsenal new boy Danny Welbeck remains on the radar. A double for England against Switzerland has certainly had an impact – 3.55% of Fantasy managers fancy handing him the armband, more than either Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard for Chelsea’s encounter with Swansea.

Would you bring in Sterling as a free transfer (not wildcarding) can't think of any midfielder alternatives other than DiMaria but already have Rooney (c)

    RMT 1 Ft, 0.1 ITB

    Krul, Elliot
    Terry, Caulker, Chambers, PVA, Bartley
    Hazard, Ramsey, Eriksen, Siggy, Marney
    Ronney, Costa, Jovetic

Jovetic to naismith? Willing to take a hit also if it improves the team long term.

    Am I good to go. Already taken a -4 hit & 1.8itb

    Krul
    Ivanovic, Clyne, Chester
Ramsey, Silva, Fabregas, Sterling (c), Siggy
    Costa (vc), Naismith

    Elliott, Moore, Hutton, Jovetic

Is it worth doing a -8 to get rid of Jovetic & bringing in a playing forward so that I can reserve I of my midfielders as Ramsey v Silva & Fab v Siggy.
Also have I got the captain right or will Costa do what he did in gw3.

Prediction of scores for Chelsea and Liverpool games? I am not so confident especially with the upcoming CL games.

Both games could be 1:1, 1:2, 1:0, 2:1. Not easy wins IMO. Swans and Villa aren't pushovers... Also decent defensive teams which will play for a draw

      1. Camp No No
        • 12 Years

He very clearly didn't get forward outside set pieces. If he was kept back even in attacking set pieces, which is insane choice as he's a massive indirect set pieces threat and surely bigger than Lovren, then he is to avoid. If he gets up to set pieces, I think he's the one to have, because that's the main source of goal opportunities for defenders and he's their most likely defender (supposing Skrtel is injured/benched) to score from set pieces.

        1. Camp No No
          • 12 Years
          11 years, 4 months ago

I mean, if he did get forward to attacking set pieces, he was ineffective. But that was just one match and nothing to worry about. If Rodgers keeps him at back, that means he won't get any scoring chances, and that is a lot to worry about.

you reckon you beneft more from an early WC as you will try to achieve a greater difference in pts IF you choose accordingly your squad, instead of trying to maximize your squad at later stage where you have DGW?

I won't comment on the triple Saints D as I am sure you have your reasons but I have to believe one of Hazard / Cesc is a pretty big deal to miss out on. But it does have flair, especially up top 😉

The only route to Cesc/Hazard is through losing either Ivanovic or one of the big strikers. I'm not too sure about the cheap strikers at the moment and Ivan is offering more goal threat (plus clean sheets) than any Chelsea player bar Costa.

There isn't enough funds in the triple Saints (excellent fixtures and good defensive stats is why) to turn Chadders into Cesc.

I would 100000% lose Ivanovic if it means I can afford Cesc / Hazard.

I genuinely think Ivan could hit 200+ this season. Fancy Chelsea for at least 20 clean sheets and his attacking stats are really something http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/6352/

I am a fan of having 3 big hitting mids though. Happy to go with this structure for now.

Fnal decision (will decid captain tomorrow):

Who would you -4 for Sturridge?

Ramsey - Sterling - Sigurdsson - Mata (Marney)

    Sturridge - Costa - Falcao

    A: Balotelli
    B: Wellbeck
    C: Pelle

    Would apreciate your precious feedback.

I guess Demi doesn't do the TotalFPL line-ups anymore? United line-ups are totally different between the two sites.
