After a two-week hiatus, our Friday evening analysis of the armband options in the Gameweek ahead comes around again. Our three-part approach takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Captain Poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

Captain Poll

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea’s Diego Costa leads the way after notching four times in his first three appearances. The Spain international once again heads into the weekend with hamstring doubts hanging over his pitch time but, after recovering from a similar problem to bag a brace at Goodison in Gameweek 3, he has earned the nod from over 29% of Fantasy managers so far as Jose Mourinho’s side welcome Swansea to the Bridge.

Despite scoring just twice in their first three matches under Louis van Gaal, United are still heavily backed for their home encounter against QPR. Radamel Falcao and Wayne Rooney sit second and fourth respectively in the Captain Poll and the Colombian’s previous ability to settle quickly in his new surrounds have persuaded 15% to select him compared to Rooney’s 13%. Harry Redknapp’s side have shipped four goals in their only road trip to date but a switch from 3-5-3 to 4-4-1-1 earned the R’s their first clean sheet of the campaign last time around.

Liverpool’s attackers are also high in our collective estimations. Raheem Sterling is the favoured option from Brendan Rodgers’ side – after scoring in two of his first three appearances, the youngster has picked up over 13% of your votes for a plum home clash with Aston Villa. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined for the Merseysiders, Mario Balotelli could be a real differential for this one, bearing in mind he’s owned by less than 6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

In spite of a testing clash with City at the Emirates, Arsenal new boy Danny Welbeck remains on the radar. A double for England against Switzerland has certainly had an impact – 3.55% of Fantasy managers fancy handing him the armband, more than either Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard for Chelsea’s encounter with Swansea.

        Usually I wouldn't disagree, but Hull have so many creative players providing service, they've got 3 home games in the next 4 and he's the sort of striker that once he starts scoring, he keeps scoring.

        Total punt, but I might go for it.

    All,

    I need to get this wc period over so I can move on with my life. My plan to use the international break to rake in the money and put together a team of all conquering galacticos didn't exactly work out and instead I'm left deliberating where to invest the 0.1 million brought in from Naismith's 2 week venture in my team. Before the deadline passes does anyone have any views on the following:

    Krul (McArthur);

    Shaw, Moreno, (rotate: n Taylor, Hutton, wisdom);

    Hazard, sterling, siggy, Ramsey (Boyd);

    Costa, aguero, Welbeck

    I think I'm fairly happy with my midfield and attack but are there any cheap defenders I should be bringing in? I booted ddg and yet have found myself drawn back to a Man U defender, I realise this is probably a mistake, but those fixtures just keep luring me back. Also if Man U are to suddenly improve I want to at least benefit from a FF perspective - and if they remain awful, well all the better and I'll take one for the team! As always thanks for any input.

      Hahahah best first sentence to a post in weeks. Have a +1.

        I'm away on holiday with the girlf and am sat sorting out my wc team while she sleeps - this isn't healthy! I'm leaving it to the morning and holding out for a .1 rise from dyer et al. My main fear is the dodgy wifi here will fail in which case I'll be stuck with schneiderling and dier. Thanks for the comments mind! If wisdom ever gets a run out something has gone wrong. But there aren't any 4m defenders who appeal - I had Moore but he struggled to go a game without getting a yellow, let alone a clean sheet. Shaw - I agree. So far every one of my gambles (which all made sense at the time) have failed - but apart from Chelsea (who I can't afford) I'm not too thrilled by any defensive options...

    Zone of the dead the Friday before games after a horrendously long international break. Nothing like it!!

      When did you decide to use your wildcard mate?

    FLuis: already came down last nite to 5.6

    1.Start him and risk him doing a cameo appearance , yielding 1pt.
    2.Bench and play Moore (stk)

    *also, if Ramsey does not play, then If FLuis stays on bench, FLuis will come in. 1pter in the making...or drop for a (-4) hit...thnx!

          Not worth a hit, no. I'd hang on to Luis until after the UCL game, and if he doesn't start tomorrow and starts the UCL game then drop him for someone for free.
