Cesc Fabregas will play no part in this weekend’s Emirates Cup with Arsene Wenger admitting at a press conference this afternoon that the Spaniard is “unsettled”. The Gunners skipper has been out of action this pre-season with a hamstring injury but Wenger’s comments are perhaps the biggest hint yet that Fabregas’ future may lie away from Arsenal. Speaking ahead of the weekend’s Emirates Cup, Wenger said:

Fabregas will not feature in the Emirates Cup. He is not settled, with his injury and his situation. That has to be sorted out soon. Cesc is torn between two loves. I can understand that but we want to be certain about his commitment.

The comments further fuel the idea that Fabregas may finally be ready to return to Barcelona and with Nicklas Bendtner also looking likely to join Gael Clichy through the Emirates exit door, the Arsenal boss should have a considerable warchest to re-invest in his first-team squad. Wenger did, however, seem much more optimistic on the future of Samir Nasri, for the upcoming season at least, saying:

“My wish is that Nasri stays. I’m convinced he is going to stay at Arsenal.”

If this scenario pans out, Fantasy managers will be looking to Nasri as the midfielder most likely for Arsenal next season. Priced at 9.5 to Cesc’s 12.0, Nasri would see plenty cash left over in your Fantasy budget and with Wenger also confirming Abou Diaby will be out for around ten weeks, Gunners midfield options are short on the ground. Aaron Ramsey comes into the equation, perhaps, and priced at 6.5 the Welshman would be Fantasy gold if he takes over the role as chief creator next term.

That’s a situation that seems unlikely, though; if Arsenal lose their captain, Wenger will surely move to boost the ranks in light of such a blow. The Gunners boss admitted he’s in the market for players ahead of the new season’s kick-off a fortnight tomorrow:

There is only one deadline, it is on August 31.The other deadline is for us to get everybody focused, the players who are really committed to the club, my energy and my focus goes on them. That is what I focus on, I cannot help the other situation, because it does not only depend on me. It depends on the players and on the other clubs.

A move for Valencia’s Juan Mata has been mooted for some time and over the last twenty-four hours, the Spanish club, intriguingly, have secured the services of Sergio Canales on loan from Real Madrid for the upcoming season. While Canales could certainly play alongside Mata in La Liga in 2011/12, speculation is rife that the move pre-empts the player’s move to the Emirates over the next few weeks.

Looking at the fixtures, on the one hand Wigan face the 3 newly promoted teams in the first three gameweeks; but on the other hand, all three newly promoted sides have a game against Wigan in their first 3 games.

Come on Holt, Sinclair & Taarabt!

      Exactly.

Fixtures are only easy if you're not total shit yourself, QPR, Swansea, Norwich and Wigan are in that category. I wouldn't expect any big scores, more likely 1-0's and 1-1 type scores

I won't consider Nasri until he's signed a new contract - unless he does I don't think he'll be motivated.

I think the best attacking Arsenal option is Walcott, especially if he starts the season fit. He's good vfm in my opinion.

    Keepers: Given Al-Habsi

Defenders: Rafael, Lescott, Luiz, Gibbs, Orr

Midfield: Pennant, Sessegnon, Barton, Yaya Toure, N'Zogbia

    Forwards: Aguero, Rooney, Holt

If Modric moves to chelsea or Nasri to United / City they will be worked in but fairly happy with this at the moment

defence is awful, rotation and chuff

      midfield doesnt have a captain

attack is decent but considering the rest of the team is so poor i thought you'd have 3 big names not 2.

Yeah lose barton, Luiz, and Gibbs. I would get some Chelsea coverage as well.

Pennant, Sessegnon, Barton, Yaya Toure are much of the same, you may want to diversify that stock, Benayoun would be a nice choice for Pennant And anyone from Fulham or Wigan's Midfield would be better than Joey barton at this point.

Alcaraz and or Figueroa for Wigan would be my choices.

I would lose Gibbs for a Fulham defender. I would change Pennant for Walters. If you're going to punt - punt hard.
I would change Al-Habsi for Kenny, and swap Orr for Simpson.

would consider changing adam to downing if you have the extra 0.5m. Dont see adam scoring anything like as well as he did last year and he's probably going to be subject to rotation given that Liverpool have 200 midfielders

Adam is not a good choice considering how many midfielders pool has. You can change to VdV if you downgrade Jarvis to moses.

Make sure to watch preseason closly to make sure your cheap defenders ar sure to start. Bardsley doubtful, sunderland bought Wes Brown and O'Shea this summer...

Nani might get rotated, man u has a lot of wingers

I wouldn't do it even as a Sunderland fan. Would encourage having one of them though. I don't know your team, but instead you could have a Newcastle defender (S. Taylor, Enrique) along with Oshea. They rotate perfectly and it keeps everything cheap

Fabregas to Barcelona is the most boring tranfer saga in history. Just go or don't go, but stop going on about it.

    Fu*k me...

I think I am very near the final draft... so please check my team out and leave some feedback

    Given Ruddy
    Kompany Hughes Orr Taylor(swans) ACole
    Taarabt Sinclair Sess NZogbia Malouda
    Bent Rooney Holt

Do you expect Nzog to start firing straight away or would Albrighton be a better option to start off with? Do you think AJ from Fulham is nailed on? Do I have too many promoted players?

    HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED

Sorry, but I'm not a huge fan.

Get a Sunderland defender over Hughes. Better rotation with Simpson. You could even save money if you go for Brown.

Sinclair also needs to be downgraded. You don't want a bench dilemma, and that would free up funds to upgrade Bent or Holt.

He played at Pompey last year. After two games we realised he was truly appalling and after about 6 games he'd get ironic cheers if he played a 5 yard ball to a team mate. Shocking footballer.

    Al-Habsi/Given

    Enrique/Olsson/O'Shea/Jagielka/Kompany

    O'Hara/VDV/N'Zog/Sinclair/Moses

    Rooney/Aguero/Zamora

Not settled on starting line up for GW1 but thinking this might be the squad...

    Hi,
Here's a thought, how about having Aguero for gameweek 1 and then immediately swapping him out for either either Drogba or Torres for Gameweeks 2 and 3?
I don't fancy 2 chelsea players away at Stoke, and figured Ageuro would be a good first game week captain, what do you all think?

Also - Chris Eagles could be a good fantasy choice from gameweek 8 onwards if hes getting starts.....

If Aguero scores big, you'll want to keep.

One gameweek transfers are a terrible idea unless you know for sure you're going to wildcard the next week.

I would normally agree but I don't think that logic applies to the first week. I will probably want to keep my entire team the same for a few weeks or wildcard.

Boom - Eagles definitely won't be on pens, and probably won't get free kicks.

I'd fancy him for assists and bonus points.

O'Shea. As capt he's nailed on to start unless injured. I would go Bardlsey over Wes. Instead of O'Shea - Jose Enrique or Roger Johnson?

Barton, Pennant, or Elmohamady and 0.5m banked, anyone?

    For the record, my team is;

    Al Habsi / Given
    Kompany, Baines, Cole
Van Der Vaart, Silva, Downing, 6m man
    Drogba, Holt, Zamora

Bench is... bargain basement non-starters :-/

don't have non-starters on your team...every week there are injuries, rotation, arrests etc...and your bench players will have to play

Not sure re Assou. Rest of defence looks good to me.

Midfield looks decent, Silva and Downing give you options for change.

Not sure re Carroll or Drogs first GW. Carroll still can be certain of match fitness he's been a long time out. And we don't know what Chelski's starting line up might be.

      Ba is good.

defense is weak besides Kompany...STK, TOT and BOL all start with tough fixtures...I'd go FUL or Villa over Skrtl

mid also a bit weak besides Silva and maybe Barton (and you already have Ba)...Downing a bit of an unknown at this point

      forward line fine
