Arsenal and Tottenham were both rebuffed in their attempts to sign Southampton’s World Cup star Morgan Schneiderlin this summer and hanging on to the French midfielder has proven crucial to the Saints’ ascent under new boss Ronald Koeman.

The 10.7% of Fantasy Premier League managers who have backed Schneiderlin have seen a phenomenal return from the central midfielder, who has chalked up 29 points in his last three appearances, courtesy of a trio of goals and four bonus points.

In our next members’ article of the week, we turn to the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) tables in order to assess Schneiderlin’s progress from the previous campaign under Mauricio Pochettino.

For the unfamiliar, these KPI tables are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or changes in player performance. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics and comparing them over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain whether a player’s form has improved or declined. As mentioned in last summer’s introductory article, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

By comparing this season to last, we should be able to get an indication as to how he will be utilised in Koeman’s new-look side and determine whether his high points return so far could be sustainable. By also referencing the Comparison Tool and season totals, we get a better indication as to how he fared:

Morning guys. Anything you would do with this team? Thinking of holding or shifting Ramsey for ADM.

    Krul / Elliot
van Aanholt / Lovren / Ivanovic / Dier / Moore
    Ramsey / Fábregas / Sterling / Sigurdsson / Marney
Diego Costa / Rooney / Naismith

1 FT, £1.6m in the bank.

Who Should I captain and Why?
    A. Costa
    B. Sterling

leaning towards sterling however Costa could easily score a goal or two. Worried about how sterling could go without sturridge though.

    Thanks in advance

Cesc non-owners, how will you guys be playing it?

I'll avoid for the trip to city, and may bring him in for the villa game.

    Two things to consider though:

    1) Another premium midfielder could prove more essential (Hazard, ADM)
    2) Chelsea do have some tough games coming up [ARS(H) MUN(A)]

When transferring in a defender, how many gameweeks do you look at? Thinking about writing an article about something, but I need to know how many gameweeks. I was thinking 6 or 10 or something.

I probably look further ahead for defenders than for attacking players because I don't want to be changing defenders very often. Maybe 8 or even 10 games ahead.

Honestly, i'm more inclined to look at the general defensive solidarity of the team they play for than any amount of fixtures.

Personally, I would not ... in previous years the forwards have always outscored mids and are generally better value for points. I think you can end up with a stronger front playing 7 with 3 forwards! IMHO of course.

What are your thoughts on this as a simple strategy:

Set up your team with rotating goalkeepers. Have a premium backman (Ivanovic, Moreno, Clyne) surrounded by 4 more budget backs that rotate ... essentially rotate and forget.

Midfield, as most already have, is your big 4 with a cheap bench warmer - also veyr much set and forget.

Your essential forwards - Costa, Rooney, Aguero, Adebayor, Lukaku, etc. with enough in the bank to upgrade any one of them to the most expensive - i.e. Balotelli + 2.1 for a transfer to Aguero.

The you really just need to rotate the weakest fixture forward each week. Obviously this doesn't take into account injuries and the desire to get in-form or rising midfielders in occasionally, but the odd hit isn't a bad idea.

The idea is that you don't have to rejog your team too much, you are never (or rarely) taking hits and you rotate the higher scoring players in and out of your team depending on form and fixtures.

Having re-read my post i realise how obvious this may sounds ... my point is that a good rotating backline coupled with a set-and-forget midfield means your spending your FTs on transferring forwards in and out as their hit form and fixtures look promising.

Pretty much implied in all strategy on here. Sort out defence pre season and spend transfers on mids/forwards.

yes. Transfers are for mids and attackers. I hate wasting it on a def or gk

Can't really argue with that line-up. What to do if Pelle misfires 2 GWs in a row - back to Naismith or Welbeck?

I was toying with the idea of Chadli. Surprised he's not on the captain poll, given record and opponents.

Spread the risk ... they're both promoted teams and always start solidly before falling away.

I would feel a lot more comfortable if I had Fab.

    Worth a -4 for:

    a) Mirallas and Ivan ---> Fab and Stk Def

    b) Mirallas and Welbeck ---> Fab and 5.1 forward (are there any?)

    c) Stick with Mirallas and Ivan/Welbeck

      c) Stick! Mirallas to go bananas this GW against WBA
