West Brom have this evening announced the loan signing of Ben Foster from Birmingham. The stopper joins on a one-year deal with Boaz Myhill moving in the opposite direction.

Foster’s return to the Premier League is not only significant news for the Baggies camp, it’s also a huge development for Fantasy managers.

Foster proved a major Fantasy asset whilst at Birmingham last season, despite suffering relegation to the Championship. He kept 9 clean sheets but also topped the rankings for saves scoring 32 Save Points in 38 starts. That allowed him to emerge as a strong value option with an initial 4.5 price tag in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, earning him recognition in our Fantasy team of the season.

We now await Foster’s valuation throughout the games with a price tag of 4.5-5.0 expected in the FPL. That would see Foster earn plenty of initial squad investment – there’s little doubt that he will have plenty of opportunity to fetch a strong Save Point total at the Hawthorns. However we should also consider that the Baggies kept just 2 clean sheets last term – the lowest in the league.

The shrewd Fantasy manager will note that Foster works superbly in tandem with Villa’s Shay Given – another early favourite for the goalkeeping position in our squads. That particular pairing offer up a strong run of opponents and fixtues (ful BLA WOL nor NEW FUL WIG WOL WBA LIV NOR BOL swa qpr WIG bla) right up until Gameweek 17. That’s by no means the only combination available however – Foster’s arrival back in the Premier League will now cause many of us to reconsider our options between the sticks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Atm i got:
    2m in bank
    Cech Ruddy
    Rafeal Hughes Kompany Orr Simpson
    Malouda Tarrabt OHara Albrighton Dyer
    RVP Zamora Suarez

Is there anything ghastly wrong? Rafeal could be changed to Jagielka if he moves to arsenal. If luiz definate starter then GK combo of less than 10m can be chosen.

RVP will. May change him to Aguero after charity shield as a punt. Suarez can change to bent
Luiz/A.Cole on my radar have attacking potential. Rafael if he plays has attacking potential. Dont see spending 1.5 extra for hangeland. Need the money elsewhere.
Albrighton over N'Zog - money again. OHara - gut feeling really so yeah a gamble.
        Malouda over lamps - money

Squad picking tactic: Pick one player from 15 teams or build 2-3 player blocks?

I am currently looking at two different approaches in squad building
    either
    - pick a single player from each team targeting the most prolific in their respective roles

    or

build blocks ie a defensive block from Everton or Blackburn (Goalie and two defenders), midfield block from Liverpool, An attacking block from ManU/Arsenal etc.

    Which tactic would you recommend?

I don't bother constructing squads like that, it all falls apart after a few GWs once you make a few transfers anyway.
Just choose the players that present the most value.

I am going for each teams best player and trying to fit it into an affordable lineup whilst keeping fixtures in mind. Blocks have the ability to go either way, either high scores across the board or low, so I'd avoid it. I have two players from a single team max.

THe idea is tempting though, partiularly in defence. I am not sure though how the new scoring system will affect the score so I am considering going for a mix of 2-3 blocks and some high profile players.

usually best to spread it out, you don't often want 2 defensive players from the same club.

That said, its still ok to have a def and mid/fwd from same club. Most will say having mid/fwd from same club is bad (or worse 2mid 2fwd), but if they are both points scorers then I see no problem.

    Hi guys, please RMT.

    Given
    Kompany Baines A.Cole
    Sinclair Hoolahan Tarrabt Moses
    RVP Bent Aguero

    Subs: Foster Simpson Briggs Dyer

Assuming Foster is 5m 0.0 left in bank.

Midfield is a bit weak any improvements I could make there?
I know defence is slightly dear but I need Cole for Chelsea coverage and Baines and Kompany are a must imo.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

I don't buy this 'weak midfield' argument that keeps going around.

If the best value is in the midfield, then use it. My biggest hitter in midfield is Dempsey - the rest or 6.5 value picks. This allows me to pick RvP, Bent, Baines and some decent squad defenders.

I don't see this as a week strategy at all.

5M for a baggies keeper is way to steep methinks. I wouldn't pay more than 4.5.
Your squad options are crap and you've got way too much money tied up in your forward line. And 15.5m spent on 2 defenders doesn't seem very practical.

If you like it then go for it. The more you think about it the more it'll turn into another generic team, which probably isn't a bad thing lol. But if you have the balls to go with that team week 1 then go for it I'd say.

Personal opinion, one too many risks.

Not long ago I had a lot of players that looked "value for money", ie. N'Zogbia, Downing, Barton.
But then i realised I wasn't really picking the players I actually fancy to do well - which is the whole idea of the game! 🙂

Swap Nelson, O'Hara. Not to sure why everyone raves about Sessegnon & Moses. Keep the attack, Aguero could prove a lot of people wrong as he is playing in a team which are deamed as a threat to both chelsea & utd as admitted by both their moanagers. Not sure about swapping for Drogba & Torres as they might both be rotated.

Will Lampard be playing in a deeper role this season? Any signs of this in pre-season?

Yes signs of it, he's been playing there when he plays, AVB is giving Benayoun the 'creative' role. Lampsy would be a good choice if it wasnt for the cost. I dont think it will affect his points tally.

He played deeper in the last game. A kind of 4-2-3-1 formation with Lampard as one of the defensive mids. He still scored (from the spot), had a few long range efforts and arrived late into the box.

The team they played were rubbish though, not sure AVB would risk playing Lamps as a defensive mid against a proper team.

Where is this Aguero love coming from, only VDV has bucked the 1st season trend(or at least i can remember FPL wise)

      Mid is far too weak.

Brown & McAuley - who do they play for?
Moses? Everyone is raving about him but not much experience.
Pennant - new lease of life at stoke so could be a surprise.
Wigan are pants so maybe swap rodallega.
Aguero could be the one to surprise a lot of the doubters, great past record.
