Mathieu Debuchy is sidelined for a three-month period after undergoing ankle surgery. Brendan Rodgers has worries in midfield as the Merseyside derby edges closer, Alan Pardew is determined to be cautious with Papiss Cisse’s fitness, while the injuries ease for Everton ahead of a hectic schedule.

Debuchy Undergoes Surgery

Arsene Wenger revealed yesterday that Mathieu Debuchy has undergone surgery on his ankle. The French defender suffered the injury in the Gunners’ Gameweek 4 draw with Man City and Wenger believes the right-back will now be missing for around three months:

“He has had surgery and will be out for three months. It all went well, but it can be a week or two earlier or a week or two later, but it will be around three months. It is a blow of course, how big it will be we will only know afterwards because it will be down to how well we replace him. We bought [Calum] Chambers for that.”

The Scout Says: Debuchy’s injury blow may mean we lose one cheaper route into the Gunners’ backline, but it also means that another – even more budget friendly – option now looks nailed on. Over 20,000 managers have already acquired the services of the 4.5-priced Calum Chambers this week, and that figure looks set to increase momentously following yesterday’s update on the Frenchman. Wenger’s side secured their first clean sheet of the season in their 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend, and will be optimistic of adding to that when they face a Spurs side who have struck just twice in their last three league fixtures on Saturday evening. A trip to Chelsea in Gameweek 7 is certain to prove a big test, but beyond that, the schedule then takes a significant turn for the better as Wenger’s side face just two of last term’s top eight in the following nine matches, bringing Chambers onto many a Fantasy radar right up until the festive period.

DIAME ENJOYING CENTRAL BERTH

Hull City’s deadline-day signing Mo Diame has revealed his relief after returning to his preferred central midfield role. Mainly utilised on the flank during his spell at West Ham, the Senegal international is now keen to kick on at his new club, with goals one of his priorities:

“I am in a different position to West Ham. I was a winger there. I am now back in midfield where I have played all my life. West Ham is a great club and the fans were always behind me. But I am not a winger. I have goal targets, too, and playing as a winger meant I couldn’t meet that target. I like Hull as a club. I can see myself doing well here.”

The Scout Says: It’s taken just two appearances in a Hull shirt for Diame to score half as many goals as he did for West Ham throughout the whole of last season, and there’s no denying that the 5.4-priced midfielder’s potential is on the up now he’s back in his favoured position. Diame’s influence in the last two Gameweeks is ranked third – only behind Man United pair Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria – in our ICT rankings, yet the 27-year-old is still owned by just 0.4% of managers in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. Tucked in behind a front two of Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez, Diame’s performances will be crucial for Steve Bruce’s side as they face tough encounters with Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the next four Gameweeks – having conceded seven in their last three, it’s clear that the Tigers will need goals at the other end if they are to overcome their lofty opponents, and Diame could prove an outstanding differential if he can orchestrate their offensive ambitions.

PARDEW RELUCTANT TO RISK CISSE

Alan Pardew has acknowledged that he must be careful with the fitness of Papiss Cisse, and has revealed that he is unlikely to hand Saturday’s two-goal hero the full 90 minutes in tomorrow night’s cup meeting with Crystal Palace.

The Scout Says: Over 2,700 managers have already taken a punt on Cisse following his weekend brace against Hull, though it’s clear that the former Bundesliga striker is still far from full sharpness in Pardew’s eyes. Nonetheless, with summer signing Emmanuel Riviere yet to get off the mark for Newcastle, and no other genuine forward options in their ranks, the 5.9-priced Cisse could very well be reinstated in Pardew’s starting XI for Monday night’s visit of Stoke. With Cisse on board, Remy Cabella may finally be able to produce the returns his underlying stats have deserved – the Frenchman has just one assist to his name so far this season, despite the fact that his creative stats for the first five Gameweeks are on par with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Alexis Sanchez.

OVIEDO AND KONE SET FOR COMEBACKS

Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Bryan Oviedo and Arouna Kone are back in contention to face Swansea in the Capital One Cup this evening following long injury lay-offs. Kone has been absent for the Toffees since last October after suffering a serious knee injury just a couple of months after moving to Goodison, whilst Oviedo has not featured for Martinez’s side since sustaining a broken leg back in January.

The Scout Says: With Kevin Mirallas, Steven Naismith and Aiden McGeady all dropping to the bench in Everton’s defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, it’s clear that Fantasy managers will need to be wary of the Toffees’ attacking assets in the coming weeks. With domestic cup and European duties to manoeuvre, rotation was always going to be on the cards for Martinez, and the returns of Oviedo and Kone look set to increase the prospects further. This concern, allied with the fact that trips to Liverpool and Man United are up next for the Merseyside outfit, means that managers are likely to be shopping elsewhere before the schedule brightens up for the Toffees from Gameweek 8 onwards. However, Oviedo’s classification as a defender in FPL could make the Costa Rican an intriguing differential once fully fit, with a place on the wing a more likely role for the 4.9-priced man.

Midfield Concerns for Rodgers

Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho are both to be assessed before tonight’s Capital One Cup tie against Middlesbrough. Coutinho missed Liverpool’s loss to West Ham on Saturday evening due to a groin problem, whilst Henderson picked up a hip strain in that match, and Brendan Rogers has confirmed that both are major doubts for tonight’s encounter:

“Jordan Henderson picked up a knock so we need to assess where he’s at. And Philippe Coutinho is highly unlikely for tomorrow as well.”

The Scout Says: It’s certainly not been the start to the season we expected for Coutinho, whose creative flair is yet to harbour any returns for his declining band of owners. Nonetheless, Rodgers will be keen to get the Brazilian back to full fitness for this weekend’s Merseyside derby after the disappointing displays of Adam Lallana since his return from injury. Henderson, meanwhile, has offered his 13.5% ownership a modest haul thus far, with a steady average of 3.6 points per appearance not too poor considering his 6.0 tag. The midfielder has certainly been a pivotal figure in Rodgers’ side, and the Anfield boss is unlikely to risk his fitness ahead of Saturday’s derby, when he will try to overturn the form that has seen Liverpool lose two on the trot against Villa and the Hammmers.

Saying it doesn't matter probably isn't the right choice of words, but it's not vital to have a high value, though obviously it's better to have high than low.

103.2....I had Costa and Fabregas from the start, got on the Siggy and Dier bandwagons early, got Naismith before his value rose and then switched Naismith for Ulloa before Naismith declined and Ulloa went up. I'm a big believer in the fact that team value will play a big role especially as the season progresses as I'll be able to have a team that my rivals won't be able to afford.

Mostly the teams stay the same, but with Cup matches midweek alot can happen injury wise. It would be unfair to tie someone to a team if there are lots of injuries. I do my team early in the week and it stays the same by thursday, apart from maybe one or two based on injury etc.
I'm sure the basis of it will be the same.

          I'll email you soon Jonty.

Is the value of team determined by the prices at the start of the week? There seems to be a lot of variation possible with prices within a week.

Anyone's guess, he could play both or just 1 up top. If only one, Aguero will always get the start before Dzeko in the league.

I just cant see Pelle playing just 1 striker if Dzeko is fit
                And joveta is still injured?
So I think Dzeko will get at least 70 mins in next 2 and there will be goals in those 2
Even if they are 2 goals up I think Pelle will sub Aguero to save him ,not Dzeko

He has already done it this season...I didn't watch the last game so I don't know how he played and how 2 on top worked for them. I'm just saying Dzeko is the biggest risk of being dropped out of those 4 IMO!

I just saw you have Heaton. I wouldn't want a second playing keeper with Forster in there, downgrade Heaton, and bank the cash or spread elsewhere

          Wisdom.

Just play him for the good games and bench him the rest.

Duff and Moore have great games, Duff has great form too. My concern for Duff is that they have to get some wins now so might get a bit more adventurous.

Unknown territory for me so i'll just go with a 4.0 and happily let them chill on the bench most of the season

Need a decent bit of coverage for Saints' tough games in GW 13, 14, 15. Duff does it better, Moore offers the variation.

            Leaning towards Duff now.

Shows his chances are limited and that's a fairly unsustainable percentage to keep up.

Either that or it shows you how clinical he is and is bound to get more against weaker teams...

          Man, that is confusing!

To be fair his goals have all been inside the penalty area - one a penalty, two with his head (the strongest part to his game) and two good tap ins seems to be a case of right time right place. He got 14 in 32 last season in championship which isn't brilliant but did miss 2 months with a broken foot. Word of caution he's unlikely to ever be captain material of his 14 last season only one game featured a brace of goals and yes I know he got 2 against United but one was a penalty which Nugent would have been on had he been on the pitch still.

Have you done early trades catching the price-risers but risking injuries or are you waiting till last minute?

        1. Doolittle
          • 13 Years

I always waited until last minute, but FISO/TotalFPL being unreliable is making me panic a bit, e.g. I'm getting ADM this week, and am concerned he'll rise again.

For me it depends. If I have a good bench that could replace the "risks" of trading early, then I take the risk to catch the prices.

Team at the moment for GW6 (2 FTs, £0.1m ITB):

          Begovic
          Clyne Evans Moreno
          Fabregas Di Maria Sterling Sigurdsson
          Pelle Costa Balotelli

subs - McCarthy, NTaylor, Moore, Zaha

I was looking at just doing something relatively dull and uninspiring this week like Evans > Duff/Wisdom and saving the 2 FTs for future GWs. Sound sensible? Or one of these appeal more?

          a) Evans & Balotelli > Falcao & Wisdom/Duff
          b) Evans & Balotelli > Ivanovic & Welbeck
          c) Evans, Zaha & Balotelli > Aguero, Quinn, Wisdom/Duff
          d) Summat else?

We've lost one game, to Arsenal, when we had illness strike the squad.

We were the better team for 30 minutes, and that was carrying a sanchez that seemed to be looking around his arsehole for an elbow.

No Vlaar in the side, no westwood (who'd have done a lot better job dealing with Ozil) and Benteke on the way back. Thats the spine of the team.

bit knee-jerky to say we are falling apart when we are sat in the top 4 after playing Liverpool and Arsenal in the last 2

I post my team every week for advice, and get some great responses. So here I go again this week!

          Krul || (Myhill)

Caulker || Cahill || Shackell || (Bruce, Hutton)

          Siggy || Hazard || Ramsey || Sterling || (Albrighton)

          Rooney || Costa || Adebayor

          2FT.

The way I see it. Adebayor, Krul and Caulker and possibly Rooney are my weak links.
          Therefore considering one of...

          A: Adebayor & Caulker ---> Pelle & Bertrand
          B: Adebayor & Krul ---> Pelle & Forster
C: (The more daring) Rooney, Adebayor & Caulker ---> Falcao, Pelle, Bertrand

          Alternatively I could do

D: Adebayor & Caulker --> Ulloa & Bertrand (leaving enough to get in Aguero the week after)

Do any of these seem like good moves? Any other's you'd suggest? (a way to get Di Maria perhaps). Any thoughts much appreciated my friends!

I'd probably go B, Caulker always has a goal threat and I'd want to get rid of Krul soon as possible

good advice - just Bertrand and Clynes stats are pretty bloody impressive.

Maybe I should just do all 3 for a -4...

              I would go A
Although caulker can get goals, realistically it will be 5-6 at most, so you would need to play him every week to make sure you landed them. Not worth it in long run compared to potential CS for spton in next few weeks alone, plus assists.
At least with krul there is chance of CS and saves

Krul, Caulker, Adebayor, Rooney must go during this or the next GW. I would do 3 transfers now for -4 (you will get it easily back with 3 new faces and the 4th next week. Probably Krul, Caulker, Adebayor out now for Forster, vA and Ulloa and keep funds to do Rooney to Aguero next week.

Anyone taking the risk on Mane this gw? Could be a game-changer. I played it safe and picked Tadic instead, maybe should have waited to see what Mane does in the cup game (if he plays).

              Teams coming together nicely

              Krul (yes I know) Elliot

              Baines PVA Ivanovic (Duff Hutton)

Sanchez Siggy ADM Hazard (Marney, yes I know)

              Welbeck Costa Ulloa

and enough itb to do Marney > Downing and Krul > Forster

Could be yeah..but it's kinda fun bumping along the bottom. You really don't need to be a genius to know that Aguero will score a lot of goals or Falcao..

Nice team. But like Pepin said, it'll be hard for you to upgrade your strikeforce when you're finally tempted with Kun/Sturdge/etc.

Ulloa will be ok whilst his fixtures run nicely..Sanchez will probably get rotated more than is acceptable for a 10.4 mid when Wally returns so i'll probably have to bail out at that point and use those funds..

I hope Sanchez keeps on scoring goals...loving that midfield!

Team looks great, really. A little light up front like Pepin said, but that's not really a problem, IMO. Welbeck could turn out to be a premium option at a budget price.

A little too much at the back for my liking though, plan to downgrade Ivanovic soon?

Interesting that people only ask for RMT's when on a WC and in pre season, but if you had to rate this (my team) now, how much would you give on a scale of 1-10?

                Baines Clyne Duff/Moore/Hutton
                Fab Ramsey Sterling Siggy

Another question, courtesy of TFF's fine fixture work. (thanks!)

Would you have Forster and Heaton and use Heaton as Forster's back up until Jan WC? (A decent but not completely water-tight rotation with a few bad fixtures)

Or would you have Forster and a 4.0 and then switch Forster to Fabianski when Forster's fixtures go down the pan around GW13? At this point, Swansea's turn into one of the best set of fixtures in the league.

2 FTs and 0 ITB, what to do?

                A) Rooney to Welbeck to free up funds to upgrade defence
                B) just do Krul to Mannone and save a FT

                Krul / Gilks

                PvA / Wilson / Hutton / Moore / Dummett

                Ramsey / Fabregas / Sterling / Siggy / Albrighton

                Aguero / Rooney / Costa
