Newcastle United have this afternoon placed Joey Barton on the transfer list. Following the player’s criticism of the club on his twitter account yesterday, managing director Derek Llambias has met with owner Mike Ashley and the pair have subsequently moved quickly to address the matter. Barton is allowed to leave the club on a free transfer.

Barton was a proven Fantasy performer last season, with his set-piece delivery a key factor in the club’s successful season back in the Premier League. Despite his renowned reputation, Barton seems to have settled of late and his hint of unrest behind the scenes follow those of team mate Jose Enrique. With Kevin Nolan also leaving St James Park this summer, Alan Pardew looks set to lose another of his consistent performers. In terms of Newcastle set-piece takers, it’s worth noting that both Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Marveaux have had their fair share already this pre-season and perhaps offers a pointer as to who Pardew will opt for in light of Barton’s departure.

At 28 years old, Barton still has plenty in his locker and Fantasy managers will be hoping for a mid-table move that guarantees starts. Priced at just 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Barton should still prove great value for money with his free-kicks and corners always reliable to garner points- he picked up 4 goals and 9 assists last season.

Barton had earlier in the day stated he will comment on the situation at Newcastle via his twitter stream at 4pm this afternoon….

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

B, Aguero is going to kill it. Wanting to impress + Swansea first match = goals. Liverpool have harder matches so i think Carrol will struggle and then pick up later in the season. Silva and Downing are difficult to judge. Personally C Aguero + Yaya haha

This Barton thing is even more annoying when I look at my FPL side. He was in to replace poor eld Hatem Ben Arfa, now thinking of taking a punt on Cabaye (should be on all set pieces, will be chief playmaker), or Marveaux (cheaper).

Cabaye leaves me with 0.5 spare (team value currently 99.5)
Marveaux leaves me with 1.5 spare which would allow for an easy swap of Torres to RVP in a couple of weeks.

I'd be happier with Cabaye but might get the riskier Marveaux to allow for RVP. Both are obviously risky as new to the premiership in an unsettled side, but the benefit of Cabaye being on set pieces is appealing.

get Cabaye. you probably only want RVP for gw4 onwards. could easily raise some extra funds by then.

Dunno, but every team seems to have a preference for a certain nationality or league for recruitment, I think it might have something to do with their director of football/owner's preference or manager's connections. Not sure though, I could be wrong.

Played a couple of years back. The FA cup scoring makes it a bit of a farce. Lost my minileague twice to the same guy who had good tactics... strong defence which you only change if you have to, fixed mids and strikers using the 30 transfers to rotate cheap forwards. And make transfers on a Saturday night to get points for players on Saturday then replace them with players playing Sunday lo double up (sometimes you'll have 12 or 13 players on a weekend then)...

Depends on budget and who you want. 433 with the strong defence gives you better chance of clean sheets. You can change formation with each transfer though. I'd suggest start 433 and be open to the possibility of changing it. If you're using early transfers have a look at when you can double up with a formation change. You could go 442 then switch to 343 to drop a united defender for a city striker in week 1 eor example

If you do a "points per million" calculation, Defs and Mids are better value than forwards, so I would go 4-5-1 personally, and pick players that play virtually every game as there are no subs.

Telegraph was my first proper ff format. It's only 30 transfers over the season, and no subs, so need to take a long term approach. Don't worry about fixtures. Search the player list and find some bargains and OOPs.

For your information, prices of players rise/drop according to their
    performance and fantasy managers'
    transfer movements. Every £0.2m of
price increase after your player is
bought will amount to £0.1m of profit for selling the player. With this at mind, it is again important
to buy and also sell the right player at right time.

    A good transfer strategy
    will raise your budget significantly,
allowing you to get better quality
players as the season progresses. You will not want to lose simply because
you cannot afford to buy strong
    players, will you?

    WILDCARDS

A wildcard is a powerful weapon that
    allows fantasy managers to make
    unlimited transfers for the gameweek
that it is being used. There are 2
wildcards available - one to be used
anytime you like and another only for winter transfer period (2 Jan to 4 Feb).

Wildcards are so powerful that they
can change the tide of the game
    (especially private leagues). They
should only be used when they are
really needed - either your team are
performing awfully bad or you strongly believe that you can form a
new team that can score significantly
    better than your current one.

One good moment to use wildcard is
at first few gameweeks. By forming a
new team with good form, you can
start to widen the gap with your
private league rivals and boost your
transfer kitty (team value) through the value rise of the performing players.

He was given time off after the Gold Cup, so started his pre-season training late. The concussion means he'll miss a couple of weeks of training, so he still needs to get some fitness and conditioning work done.

Fergie hinted he'd be back for the start of September.

It does seem a little far fetched especially given it was only a ball that hit him. However, Fergie feels it has disrupted his preseason (see the scribbles article earlier).

"Javier was always going to get a break until he did his proper pre-season. In a two-week period now he’ll do some training but he won’t play. We’ll have him back in three to four weeks."

I've somehow ended up with 2 city players, a wigan player and two 4.0 guff.
Kompany Clichy Alcaraz (Simpson) (Wilkinson) and .5 in the bank.

Any suggestions to improve without messing with the front 8?

    Thoughts on this team?

    Kenny
    Baines Cashley Kompany
    Taraabt Silva Moses ???
    Drogba RVP Holt

    subs Given Simpson Orr Sinclair

6 million to spend on last midfielder, was originally Barton.
Defence is expensive, but Cole and Kompany are pretty sure of clean sheets for most GWs and Baines is taking most set pieces for everton and will be getting assists. All 3 of them are going to profit from the new BP system too. I also fancy Drogba for GW1, Stoke are a physical side so he should get the nod ahead of Torres, and could be dangerous from set pieces.

If I knew that Luiz and Suarez would start the season:

    Given (Ruddy)

    Kompany, Luiz, Orr (Bramble, Simpson)

    Malouda, Silva, N'Zog, Moses (Marveaux)

    RVP, Suarez, Zamora

Two big ifs, but it would give me 9 players I'd be more than happy to play each week: rotating one weak midfielder and one weak defender depending on the fixtures.

Also has 2 big hitters in all 3 positions, giving the opportunity to bring in the form players in each position.

    What do you chaps think?

Right, so this is my team and explanations for them all, all feedback is greatly appreciated thanks.

Foster-Hodgson will have their defence well organised, he makes a lot of saves and he's a good goalkeeper.

Al-Habsi-rotates well with Foster, makes a lot of saves too, and both are fairly cheap.

Hughes-starts the majority of games, Fulham had a good defensive record under Hughes and I'm hoping that will continues under Jol.

Distin-aerial threat and not too expensive, Everton's defensive record has gotten better and better over recent seasons.

Collins-McCleish, again is a manager who likes to have an organised defence, is a regular and aerial threat.

Kompany-no need to explain, clean sheets, regualar, bonus points.

Bardsley-attacking full back who has capacity for some goals and assists, I'm thinking Sunderland will have a good season also.

O'Hara-starter, good from set pieces and eye for goal

Modric-providing he comes to Chelsea, if not a possible sub for Y.Toure or N'Zogbia

Malouda-will score, will start majority of games

Silva-assists, starts, some goals, good team and with the strikers they have at City I'm thinking his throughballs will find the net more often

Brunt-penalties, free kicks, assists for Odemwingie, regular

Bent-starter, all he does is score, main goal scorer, good service from N'Zogbia (I hope)

Rodallega-good opening fixtures, am hoping to make a profit, cheap and a good player, also might be on pens

Zamora-good player, score when fit, starts when fit, although staying fot could be an issue.

      Any input would be great.

Torres, Drogba, Rooney, Aguero and RVP are in contention, unfortunately I think it will be Rooney. 2nd-one of Torres or Drogba and 3rd-RVP if he stays fit, if not, Aguero if he settles, if not, Suarez.

What are people think about Yaya Toure.I have Silva in at the moment but using the cash I could save picking Yaya I could upgrade Ba in attack. 9.5 seems a bit steep for Silve imo. Any thoughts?

Nah I think he's worth it, lots of assist potential with all the striking talent, will be a regular and could get goals and bonuses, I'd say keep him.

Silva over Yaya anyday. Silva is running the show for City in Pre-season I saw him yesterday against Inter and was immense.
I wouldn't get Ba either after Newcastle letting Barton go he would of been knocking balls onto his head but now has nobody.

Thoughts on Cabaye, Formica or O'Hara please? Which of the three offers best value?

    RMT please:

    Al-Habsi | Given
    Kompany | Hangeland | Ivanovic | Luiz | S Taylor
    Silva | Taarabt | Moses | O'Hara | N'Zogbia
    Suarez | Zamora | Holt

3.5 in the bank to upgrade any failures....

I'm guessing most folks will think that defence is too strong but surely there's a lot more value to be had from defenders...

I'd swap Luiz for O'Shea. You have a lot of money to put towards your favorite midfielder or striker. For me, its VanPersie (ideally), Odemwingie, or Bent over Zamora.

    Al-Habsi (Given)
    Baines/Kompany/Skrtel (o'shea/simpson)
    Silva/N'Zogbia/O'Hara/Hoolahan (moses)
    VanPersie/Bent/Holt
    .5 in the bank
    Any suggestions?

I would suggest saving 0.5 on the GK you don't need Al-Habsi and Given. I think wigan have a reasonable run for the first few weeks.

      The rest looks good.

Sess is in better form right now, though part time. Taarabt has a side built around him. Its newly promoted but has a favorable opening. I'd bet on form and an experienced side - sess for my money.
