When Fantasy Premier League (FPL) opened its doors a couple of weeks ago, we weren’t far behind. Fantasy Football Scout got the ball rolling on our Head to Head leagues for the 2011/12 season by creating another two more and asked you all to stick your names in the hat for entry.

You kindly responded in your droves and after many man hours of wading through the entries, and a glamorous draw which took place on Saturday morning, we have had over 60 new leagues places to hand out to the lucky few recipients of our draw. The results (click to enlarge) and final figures on the nine Head to Head leagues (new entries highlighted) are as follows…

As you can see from the graphic above, there was at least one extra place in all of our leagues – be it from people dropping out or not claiming their spot in time. Firstly, if you see your name highlighted in that peach melba colour then you should have already received an email response to that which you entered with your respective league codes – if not, then whizz me over an email and I’ll sort things out for you.

Impressive Tackle and Back on the horse are the healthiest recipients who have jumped all the way up to FFS H2H 1 thanks to having the superior ranking of all our draw winners – Impressive Tackle finished a mind-bending 14th in the world last year.

Gooner Dave wasn’t far behind so takes up the single space left in FFS H2H 2. Four new managers get to take on Fantasy Football Scout head honcho Mark in FFS H2H 3 – Have they got what it takes to beat “The Scout”? I’m sure they’ll relish the challenge.

LawnDart jumps right into FFS H2H 4 on his own while FFS H2H 5 sees three new managers get to compete with Fantasy Football Scout super scribe Sir Paulos, podcast jockey Granville and differential destroyer (and my main rival) Big Dunc – without doubt the most Scout heavy Head to Head league.

Our Stateside Scout Da Beeeez is joined by three new faces in FFS H2H 6 with guiness416, Heisenberg and pompeyfan getting a jump up into our league structure.

FFS H2H 7 was our bottom league last season so sees a fair few new faces join its ranks thanks to a whole load of relegations – our comment-board regulars will perhaps recognise the likes of Johnny Unitas, Horizontal and RaspingDrive in amongst the qualifiers.

Scout business brain El Fozzie is heading up FFS H2H 8 (the first of two new leagues which has nineteen new faces) – Greeny was the best ranked manager of this bunch at a very respectable 17,284th place last season.

Certainly, 17,284th is more than I could have ever hoped for, which perhaps explains why I am heading up FFS H2H 9 – or what I am now dubbing “The Underachievers”. You will notice plenty of recognisable faces from long time caller Pasqualinho to King Nil Miss with a certain Westfield Irons inbetween. The Irons are the team managed by none other than Jon Reeson, winner of the whole 2009/10 FPL campaign and Marks’ Radio companion. Last season saw Jon struggle to keep up appearances following his banner year but is back ahead of the 2011/12 season and will undoubtedly have 19 Head to Head rivals eager for the victory scalp of an ex-FPL champion.

For those of you needing a reminder of how our promotion/relegation works then have a gander at the following graphic and work out just where you need to finish to survive and/or prosper.

This, of course, indicates that we know we need to cater for many more than just the 180 managers in our Head to Head leagues above. So without further ado we also christen the opening of the Fantasy Football Scout Reserve League (code: 759-148560).

If you were unfortunate enough to not have your name pulled out of the hat in the draw/got relegated/left it too late to claim your place then the Reserve League is open to anyone wanting to enter. Your league code (759-148560) should allow you the chance for 38 Fantasy Football Scout endorsed Head to Head fixtures and the shot at promotion into the aforementioned structure – just make sure your team finishes in the top 45 places and then keep your eyes peeled the following summer if you do.

Stick around for sporadic League updates through the season whenever we can squeeze them in, I’ll hopefully have a short graphic based one up in the early September international break and our first comprehensive movers and shakers report in the following October break.

Congratulations to our 60+ draw winners. Get joining our Reserve League if you’re not in on the action. I’m going for a stiff Ribena, am glad all that work is almost over until next summer. Good luck. Except to those in League Nine- I need all the help I can get in that one.

For reference, here are the first five Everton fixtures from the last four seasons.

Not exactly top performances, but the stats could be misleading as well; a lot of the matches they lost were pretty hard fixtures, and 2010-11 they have 3 home matches out of the 5 first, with QPR (which they havent played these seasons), Wigan (that they have beaten both times at home early) and Villa (who let in a lot of goals last season and might go on doing that for all we know. With Arteta out Baines will be on pens + he is involved in a lot of their goals. Clean sheets shouldnt be expected, though.

    10-11:

    blackburn 0-1 (L)
    WOLVES 1-1 (D)
    villa 0-1 (L)
    MANUTD 3-3 (D)
    newcastle 0-1 (L)

    09-10:

    arsenal 1-6 (L)
    burnley 0-1 (L)
    WIGAN 1-0 (W)
    fulham 1-2 (L)
    BLACKBURN 3-0 (W)

    08-09:

    BLACKBURN 2-3 (L)
    wba 2-1 (W)
    PORTSMOUTH 0-3 (L)
    stoke 3-2 (W)
    hull 2-2 (D)

    07-08:

    WIGAN 2-1 (W)
    tottenham 3-1 (W)
    reading 0-1 (L)
    BLACKBURN 1-1 (D)

I was wondered the same thing. I thought that A Johnson is a better pick than Holt. As I have never seen him play, I hear a lot of the attack goes through Holt. FFS members said that Holt was the better pick when I posted this same question a couple of days ago.

Plus he sucks up one of the precious forward spots. Someone like Holt might be much higher variance, but I think that is definitely worth it with the budget forward, especially as he is 1 mill cheaper

Camzy, if you are still on:

If I go for the Carroll + Hughes package instead of the Baines + Zamora, I just noticed our teams were very similar. So I'd like to ask you what has convinced you Silva is a good choice for a >8.0 midfielder. I absolutely love the player, and the fixtures are decent + I need a good first fixture, but ... how is his assist-the-assister-problem solved?

      While waiting for God..Camzy:

I'd say two relevant factors are:

Fulham will be crap defensively because Martin Jol is managing them.
Villa will be amazing defensively because Alex McCleish is managing them.
Everton will definitely start the season badly because they have the last 2 seasons.
          Downing is crap.
All Silva does is assist the assist.

I personally wouldn't double up on defense, but it could be worth a shout if you're happy with it. Your defense is also really expensive, which limits the amount of attacking big hitters. Apart from Rooney, you'll have difficulty finding a solid captain every week. Best of luck though!

Yeah I know... if Baines is Kompany instead I can get N'Zogbia instead of [whoever], who I'd play every week for the first few weeks. Fixtures early on are such that 2 of Hoolahan, Moses and Graham can play each week and have a decent shot at points.

Baines->Kompany also gives me 0.5m extra so one of my 4m defenders could be a 4.5m, or Silva and Suarez could become Downing and Aguero.

    Ivanovic or Cole.

I'm siding with Ivanovic at the moment. He's 0.5 cheaper, but less nailed on.

The thing is, he can only lose his place to Bosingwa really. This means it'd be easy to replace him if he gets dropped, and if not, you're saving 0.5 by having him in. He's also more of a goal threat than Cole.

Is the .5 vital to your team? I don't like picking uncertainties pre season as it leads to forced transfers or a 7mil player sitting there scoring you nothing. If he doesn't play you're then left stuck with another player you want to ditch/can't bring in a form player, or you have to take a hit.

That is true. Ivanovic certainly looks a starter, although I'm worried by substitutions now. Bosingwa could get subbed on at half time if the game is 0-0 and AVB is looking for more attacking play.

I guess the 0.5 might not be worth it after all.

Just spend the extra .5m and downsize to the cheaper regular once you know who it is (Luiz, Alex, Bosingwa)

With only Essien injured they'll have far more squad options as opposed to last season when the team often picked itself.

Completely agree, I doubt he'd lose his place to Bosingwa for long, may be rested but will not stay out of the first 11 for a substantial amount of time. Also, Cole has looked below par in pre season.

Seriously considering changing from Cole to Terry for GW1.

If you look at the EA stats from last year then Terry beat him in total points.

I think we're all going to have to have a serious rethink about our teams once we see how the new bonus points system works, since it rewards the top teams' players far more than the old system.

Of the two I'd go terry. Tackles, blocks, interceptions etc. should mean more chance if Bp's plus he has more shots, usually from inside 6 yards. Should outweigh Cole's assists.

Don't like Downing, and you need a player to bench from midfield.

Captaincy is a bit of an issue. Only VdV and Rooney I'd trust with the captaincy, and they play each other GW 2. Spend and get Malouda.

O'Shea and Gibbs aren't ideal at the back. Cheaper alternatives.

        It's alright other than that.

The thing that's great about Moses is he's so cheap. So even if he's a flop, you lose nothing. He won't be considered a Boselli even if he doesn't deliver because he won't hurt you.

The people that chose Boselli missed out on Carroll...

Can anyone convince me to go with Given/Ruddy instead of Given/Kenny?

All the data I have to hand says that it's worth the extra 0.5 for Kenny over Ruddy but I still see loads of RMTs with Given/Ruddy. Some from people I'd expect to know better (or more than I do). 🙂

The thing in their favor is that goalie rotation last year didn't help at all.

I worked out that if I had played Foster every week instead of rotating, I'd have gotten more points. If that's the case, then Ruddy is worth it (well, technically worthless since he won't play!)

I don't mind having one crap keeper since it gets rid of the annoying hindsight of "awwww shuda played my other keeper" woes when the one you played concedes before the other!

When I heard Given joined Villa i pretty much decided he was in my team with some other cheapy keeper

Probably not, but I'd prefer Kenny as coverage for Given during his tough games, and Given seems to have an innate ability to injure himself for a couple of weeks at a time whilst walking his Budgie/cleaning his car/frotting the goalpost/polishing his balls etc, etc.

And they do actually rotate pretty well. Same as Given/Ruddy but QPR have a much better defensive record than Norwich.

            Orr or Gabbidon?

Sorry, but your team changes so often that I can't keep up...

Heard bad things about Orr but good things about Gabbidon.

But having said that then I wouldn't want to double up on the QPR defence for GW1 because it might all go tits up.

But it could also go so well! Saw promising things about Orr contrary to what you have seen. It probably won't matter a great deal in the end anyway. Has to be a QPR player as the 3rd rotatable defender in that backline though. Covers Sunderland and Newcastle well.

              Given, Kenny

Yeah, sorry. I should bookmark this stuff.

It was from a QPR fan though. That I do remember.

Your team is becoming suspiciously like mine, except I just transferred in Terry for Cole.

And I have Hughes as my 3rd defender for the first few weeks.

This is embarrassing. Dug out my first team draft. I guess I'm sort of justified in spending time doing analysis pre-season with all you guys. Some people say don't look at your team until the day before, but without having days to think it over and adjust, I'd be looking at this team:

    Given, Al-Habsi
    Kelly, Bramble, Simpson, Tamas, Kompany
Silva, Derry, Sessegnon, Ben Arfa, Sinclair
    Van Persie, Suarez, Rooney

I wouldn't want to go into the new season with that team.

11 of those players still regularly crop up in people's team drafts to be fair! And I'm sure Ben Arfa would too if he hadn't got injured. Out of interest, how many of those are still in your team?

8 of 15. I guess it's not too bad. I picked it out 15 minutes after registering.

is a midfield of sinclair, ehpraim/4.5QPR starter, Moses, Silva, and malouda too weak? cos i want to have rooney and RVP upfront. rooney is a must because my minileague rule says so as im a manutd fan 🙂

It's not too weak. Plenty out there are much weaker including some that cost more.

Might look at getting another 0.5m as "just in case" money, because you can't rely totally on Sinclair and Moses every week.

Ephraim got some sort of facial injury in his last game, didn't he?

Can't find the tweet right now but he may be out for a while depending upon whether it was a fracture of the nostril or half his skull....

      Luiz- rotation risk
Dawson,Bale - Tottenham fixtures are not great in the beginning
Drogba - Again, who knows what chelsea starting 11 would be. Could be a rotation risk.
Ranger - Would he get much playing time?

    2)Y Toure & Ephraim
    3)Etherington & O'Hara(*)

    Rooney +
    1) Etherington & S Ferguson
    2) O'Hara & Brunt(*)

    * ones that im really considering
    Current Team
    Given, Kenny

The first bit is too complicated for my tiny mind to comprehend.

You current team looks fine. Gabbidon for Orr and find a replacement for Ephraim (facial injury, see above) and you should do fine.

Yeah ill make a last minute decision about Gabbiddon or Orr.

Im trying to get out Ephraim and Barton....So the first bit was which 2 mids to get in. These options change if i change Rooney to Carroll...Hence the complicated thing above 😛

I'd wait before getting rid of Barton. He may end up at a far better team than the car wreck he's leaving.

Sorry Toon fans, but you did accept Ashley back as director so you're reaping what you sowed. Twice.

Thats true, but Barton was a good fantasy prospect mostly because he was a big fish in a small pond

Nah. The anti-Barton brigade are obsessed by his off the field antics and history of aggression on the pitch.

He's a great dead ball specialist and has sorted his aggressive tendencies out now, so would be a great addition to any team.

My point was, he wouldn't be a definite starter in every game and automatic first choice set piece taker for any team. There are teams he could be the main player, but suppose he goes to any of the top teams....his fantasy potential would diminish

I'm glad I'm in a mini league with man city fans. Their is a rule that you can't have any united players or you will bet kicked out. Makes deciding on a team a little easier.
