When Fantasy Premier League (FPL) opened its doors a couple of weeks ago, we weren’t far behind. Fantasy Football Scout got the ball rolling on our Head to Head leagues for the 2011/12 season by creating another two more and asked you all to stick your names in the hat for entry.

You kindly responded in your droves and after many man hours of wading through the entries, and a glamorous draw which took place on Saturday morning, we have had over 60 new leagues places to hand out to the lucky few recipients of our draw. The results (click to enlarge) and final figures on the nine Head to Head leagues (new entries highlighted) are as follows…

As you can see from the graphic above, there was at least one extra place in all of our leagues – be it from people dropping out or not claiming their spot in time. Firstly, if you see your name highlighted in that peach melba colour then you should have already received an email response to that which you entered with your respective league codes – if not, then whizz me over an email and I’ll sort things out for you.

Impressive Tackle and Back on the horse are the healthiest recipients who have jumped all the way up to FFS H2H 1 thanks to having the superior ranking of all our draw winners – Impressive Tackle finished a mind-bending 14th in the world last year.

Gooner Dave wasn’t far behind so takes up the single space left in FFS H2H 2. Four new managers get to take on Fantasy Football Scout head honcho Mark in FFS H2H 3 – Have they got what it takes to beat “The Scout”? I’m sure they’ll relish the challenge.

LawnDart jumps right into FFS H2H 4 on his own while FFS H2H 5 sees three new managers get to compete with Fantasy Football Scout super scribe Sir Paulos, podcast jockey Granville and differential destroyer (and my main rival) Big Dunc – without doubt the most Scout heavy Head to Head league.

Our Stateside Scout Da Beeeez is joined by three new faces in FFS H2H 6 with guiness416, Heisenberg and pompeyfan getting a jump up into our league structure.

FFS H2H 7 was our bottom league last season so sees a fair few new faces join its ranks thanks to a whole load of relegations – our comment-board regulars will perhaps recognise the likes of Johnny Unitas, Horizontal and RaspingDrive in amongst the qualifiers.

Scout business brain El Fozzie is heading up FFS H2H 8 (the first of two new leagues which has nineteen new faces) – Greeny was the best ranked manager of this bunch at a very respectable 17,284th place last season.

Certainly, 17,284th is more than I could have ever hoped for, which perhaps explains why I am heading up FFS H2H 9 – or what I am now dubbing “The Underachievers”. You will notice plenty of recognisable faces from long time caller Pasqualinho to King Nil Miss with a certain Westfield Irons inbetween. The Irons are the team managed by none other than Jon Reeson, winner of the whole 2009/10 FPL campaign and Marks’ Radio companion. Last season saw Jon struggle to keep up appearances following his banner year but is back ahead of the 2011/12 season and will undoubtedly have 19 Head to Head rivals eager for the victory scalp of an ex-FPL champion.

For those of you needing a reminder of how our promotion/relegation works then have a gander at the following graphic and work out just where you need to finish to survive and/or prosper.

This, of course, indicates that we know we need to cater for many more than just the 180 managers in our Head to Head leagues above. So without further ado we also christen the opening of the Fantasy Football Scout Reserve League (code: 759-148560).

If you were unfortunate enough to not have your name pulled out of the hat in the draw/got relegated/left it too late to claim your place then the Reserve League is open to anyone wanting to enter. Your league code (759-148560) should allow you the chance for 38 Fantasy Football Scout endorsed Head to Head fixtures and the shot at promotion into the aforementioned structure – just make sure your team finishes in the top 45 places and then keep your eyes peeled the following summer if you do.

Stick around for sporadic League updates through the season whenever we can squeeze them in, I’ll hopefully have a short graphic based one up in the early September international break and our first comprehensive movers and shakers report in the following October break.

Congratulations to our 60+ draw winners. Get joining our Reserve League if you’re not in on the action. I’m going for a stiff Ribena, am glad all that work is almost over until next summer. Good luck. Except to those in League Nine- I need all the help I can get in that one.

N'Zogbia is a talented player and I'm sure that over the course of the season, he will do well, but he's being so overhyped that I think he's being set up for early disapointment. He's a "value" pick at 7.5, but if he doesn't score early, I think the masses will run. No scientific support, just a gut feeling that it may not be wise to go with the crowd on his early selection.

Really? Based on what? His index score from last season was 28th overall when the next best Wigan player was Al-Habsi at 81st. Only Bent got a higher index score than N'Zogbia from the current Villa players.

I expect him and Bent to get plenty of bonus if Villa do well.

    Eh...how do I phrase this...

If numbers 37 to 45 from Reserves (9 teams) get promoted to H2H9 and 6 get relegated from H2H8 (15 total) where do the other 5 making up H2H9 come from?
    The others make sense, for example take H2H8: 6 Yellows from H2H9, 6 Yellows from H2H7 and 8 Yellows from Reserves(29 -> 36) = 20.

Also am I right in saying the quickest way (albeit most difficult) to get from H2H9 to H2H1 is to get relegated, then win the Reserves H2H League?
Or do you even need to get relegated, can you join the Reserves just for the extra chance of promotion?

I imagine they'll do a raffle of some sort from 46... to fill the remaining 5 spots.

I also think your right about the winning Reserves H2H though I imagine most people would rather be in the position you're in rather than try and place in the reserve.

Gratz on getting in H2H 9 and good luck, I know I'm a bit jealous... 🙂

2 seasons ago I finished 237th in the world and wasnt even in the top 100 for that damned reserve league.

    Morning all

Don’t know if I have enough quality on the bench. Ferguson won’t play for sure, the two defenders will. I know Nani is a rotation risk but I think he will play the first game of the season (if he’s still there). If not Nani I was thinking Young or Malouda.

    Please RMT

    Given Ruddy

Cole Kompany W.Brown Simpson Gabbidon
    VDV Moses Nani O’Hara Ferguson

Rooney Aguero Zamora

Don't get the Ruddy love on here, when Given has a tough game I wouldn't want to rely on him getting a clean sheet, gone for best rotation pair of Given and Begovic myself. Nani is a rotation risk and not worth the money unless proven starter. Aguero is a bit of a punt until we see how/where he plays but ooverall it's a good team imo.

That's 18 points though, WR. It would be silly to deny that adding those 18 points to your last season's total wouldn't have been important.

As for whether Cole will be more prolific this season then nobody really knows. As far as I can tell then he hasn't featured in any of the pre-season games, which doesn't bode well.

(I could be wrong, but from the games I saw then he either wasn't in the team or did naff all)

Downing was mostly excellent and Carroll too (apart from the diving), but I can't shoehorn both of them into my team.

So Carroll it is for the moment, and Downing can come in when I play my WC during my usual GW4 reshuffle as I realise that my initial team is utter bollocks. 🙂

I'm getting seriously tempted by Downing & Sinclair instead of N'Zogbia & Benayoun (already got Malouda) but I can't then squeeze in any Villa attacking cover...

i wouldn't recommend getting rid of nzogbia. Proven fantasy football points machine and i don't think moving to villa will make things worse for him.

If you don't want benayoun you could switch him for someone like damien duff who has great fixtures and is actually better than people give him credit for

Personally I don't see Hughes being as good value this year as he was last. Ok Jol will play more attacking football so he should get more than last years 1G 1A but they're total of 14CS is going to be decimated imo

Granted they have decent early fixtures but surely you're looking at him being cover when he has home games and in that respect those aren't great for the 1st half of the season, i.e. they include games against City, Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton, Villa.

For a covering defender I'd much prefer someone who plays most of these guys away in the 1st half and has 'easier' home games, e.g. R. Johnson (although he's not in my team atm).

I don't agree at all that Fulham's cleansheet record will be decimated under Jol. In my opinion there isn't a great deal of difference between the attacking intent of Mark Hughes and Fulham's new manager.

Jol isn't stupid. He knows where the team's strengths lie and unless he buys some big names I can't see that structure changing too much.

        Just my opinion 🙂

One more RMT rant from me!...

It's almost impossible to rate someone's team objectively because let's face it we all categorize the players in people's teams by two categories:

    In my team = good
Not in my team = bad

We then offer advice accordingly in the hope that it will make us feel better about our own team and make us look clever (Yes, we're all selfish)

    But this changes everyday anyway

Basically, if you want decent advice... ask a more objective question which helps you RATE YOUR OWN TEAM according to your OWN PLAN. After all this is a game. Ask a question which does not require personal OPINION to be utilised, and you will learn a lot more.

    /End rant

I'm with you to a certain point, however you've lost me at "Ask a question which does not require personal OPINION to be utilised"... opinion is always going to come into it, isn't it?

Unless you mean people should only ask questions relating to facts and figures, such as "how many goals did X score last year?" or "where was X played in last night's game?" Even that second question brings an element of subjectivity into it because people read games differently.

OK to a certain extent you're right but you can make it a lot more about facts for example

which position has _____ played in pre-season?
Is _____ first choice for ______?
        etc.

I guess everyone has their own ideas of what makes someone a good FPL player for thweir team, so why not ask questions relating to that agenda rather than:

Who's better? ___ or ___? Which will only tell you someone's opinion and if it is backed up by a reason - it will be that person's choice of reason.

I like RMT's if a discussion ensues. Quite often that discussion changes my mind about MY team, so I don't try and convince people that their team should be like mine but hopefully give recommendations to RMTs which might result in my team getting better.

On the other hand, if someone just barges in with an RMT request which has the same players in it that have just been analysed and dissected on the previous page or two then that's just lazy, so I don't bother to reply.

I'm a relative novice (played 2 seasons with scores of 1987 and 2200) at this game so still learning how best to transfer my football knowledge into good FPL strategy.

After listening to others on here I downgraded my 'too expensive' defence against my own thoughts. Why do you keep it strong back there?

Not asking what players or anything, just reasoning.

In my opinion starting the season a bit heavy at the back isn't always a bad option. Just because you start that way it doesn't mean you have to keep it that way for the whole season.

It's a lot easier to predict 'safe' points from defenders. For a couple of extra million you can really have a consistent back-line and look to identify better value and rotating players after a few weeks.

we know that by the end of the season some attackers will emerge as must haves - bargains. attacking players are mostly form players

Later in the season it will make sense to have a load of midfielders and attackers taking up your budget because they will have been shown to be underpriced.

But right now we don't know who these players are. We have more idea about the defenders who generally stay steadier. Also defenders rely more on fixtures (clean sheets are much more frequent in easy home games) so we can make some reasonable choices based on fixtures.

For me, 4 of my defenders rotate home and away so i will always have 2 mid priced defenders starting and 2 on the bench... This will make my bench a bit more expensive but imo it's worth it so i always have decent defenders playing decent games on the pitch.

Plus i've got baines, but after everton's first 5ish games this will probably change unless baines is absolutely on fire 😛

your welcome... you asked a decent strategic question instead of something like

"who is better bob or bill?"

I can't be arsed with those questions lol.

OK i realise tactics also rely on opinion but imo it is a lot more fun to think about the game that way

but i think bob is better because he floats into the box and scores, and bill is too expensive

Well most of my bills are too expensive anyway.

exactly lol. I think a lot of good teams sound terrible when you look at them from a football fan's point of view because there are lots of things clouding our judgement.

Hmm, any good Barton alternatives for the same price or less out there?

After much juggling I've left my midfield as my weakest area due to the rather inflated prices (Silva, Benayoun, N'zog, Moses, Barton) - Barton was my "solid" player - consistent, on some set-piece duties etc and left me happy to take the risk on Benayoun & Moses. Now he's up in the air the midfield looks far more shaky!

So does anyone know of a similar nailed-on, reliable player from a proved premiership side? Of course I may wait out the transfer possibilities but I'm on hols for two weeks from Sunday and no idea what access I may have! 😀

*Oh and agree with the RMT rant above, this should be a place for discussion about tactics etc mainly, RMT's are largely pointless, everyone ends up with 90% similar teams (which they'd see if they bothered to look back a page) and why would you want the same team as everyone else?

      Hey Jimrod,

I've got the same issue - I opted for a straight swap to O'Hara although for .5 more you can get Etherington.

There's also Brunt if you can see past his inital 2 fixtures!

Yeah wolves mids could be good. For 6.5 duff is a good pick with kind fixtures.

ohara is in my team if that helps.

and if you have moses, they rotate beautifully for a while after moses' easy 3 games. (Just have a look at the fixtures and you'll see what i mean)

yeah it's not about the team as uch as the player though. if wolves do badly it's still ok if ohara is involved in a high proportion of their goals

Yeah, there's a few options out there - it's those first weeks that worry me the most as they're the ones I may not be able to make changes in! 🙂 Murphy may have something for Fulham if they're more attacking this season but he's a little past it now, it's a real pain as I was happy with the team! I might just leave it a few days and see if anyone makes a move for Barton...

No idea what Newcastle are doing really, it's going to end up a whole team of new and untested players at this rate.

I've dropped Sinclair in for now, at least guaranteed to play but he'll definitely be starting on my bench. I have a feeling City are going to be very tough to beat this season - Chelsea as well. Liverpool will carry on their erratic high-scoring form with leaky defence and who knows about Man U and Arsenal! I thought Man U would suck last season but it seemed others sucked more! 😀

Could I please have a RMT?:

    Given Al-Habsi
    Luiz Kompany Bramble Orr Simpson
    VDV N’Zogbia Sessengnon O’Hara Moses
    RVP Rooney Rodallega

The defence looks weak, but almost flawless rotation for the first half of the season. Not happy with Rodallega, but not sure how I can raise some funds. At worst, i’ll just keep him for rounds 1-3.

this is the team ive gone with thus far.

    Al Habsi, (Ruddy)
    Evra, Kompany, A Hughes (Gabbidon)(Simpson)
    Silva(c), Downing, Nzogbia, Taarabt, Sinclair
    RVP, Bent (Holt)

what do people think about the 3-5-2 formation? i have always played 3-4-3 because i like having the extra striker but i believe this year that with players like downing and nzogbia moving to bigger clubs with the best talent they will become more influential.

also i think im a little weak at the back, could i please have some feedback?

    thankyou.

Evra is a nice pick, but most people will tell you United have poor fixtures. I don't agree, but if I were picking one of theirs, it would be Vidic at the moment.
