Ahmed Elmohamady faces a race to be fit for Hull’s trip to Arsenal. West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate could be back in time to face Burnley, Sunderland’s Emanuele Giaccherini may be sidelined until December, while Nigel Pearson talks up Riyad Mahrez’ prospects after the wide man served up a goal and assist against Burnley.

Elmohamady Withdraws from Egypt Squad

Ahmed Elmohamady has dropped out of Egypt’s squad for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers with a back injury and returned to Hull for further monitoring.

The Scout Says: The Egyptian picked up the problem in the final minutes of the weekend win over Palace and reports suggests he also sustained an arm injury in the incident. Having played 64 consecutive matches in all competitions for the Tigers, his loss would be a bitter blow as Steve Bruce’s side roll up to Arsenal, with Liam Rosenior on standby to deputise if Elmohamady fails to make it. Bruce’s shift to 3-5-2 last weekend brought James Chester back into the first-team, though regardless of formation, Andrew Robertson, at 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, still seems the safest option in the Tigers’ rearguard. With Liverpool, Southampton, Spurs, United and Everton also on their agenda in the next seven Gameweeks, clean sheets look very much few and far between for Bruce’s team.

Pearson Praise for Mahrez

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has talked up the recent performances of Riyad Mahrez after the 23-year-old winger bagged a goal and assist at the weekend, describing the Algerian as a “match winner at both ends”.

The Scout Says: Having been dropped in Gameweeks 5 and 6, Mahrez was one of the main beneficiaries of Pearson’s move to a 4-4-2 set-up against Burnley, as he returned to the starting line-up on the right flank and earned his first attacking points of the campaign. The Algerian now sits atop the Leicester midfield rankings in FPL with 21 points, and at just 4.9 could prove an outstanding budget midfield option if he can hold down a starting role ahead of the Foxes’ kind upcoming agenda (new, swa, WBA, sou, SUN, qpr). Mahrez’ gain may be David Nugent’s loss, however, after Saturday’s change in formation saw the English forward left out of the line-up for the first time this season, with Jamie Vardy the man preferred alongside Leonardo Ulloa up top for the Foxes.

Giaccherini Concern for Sunderland

Reports in Italy suggest that Emanuele Giaccherini could be out until December with an ankle problem, after the Sunderland midfielder paid visit to his national side’s training camp in midweek.

The Scout Says: Yesterday’s news will have come as a blow for Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, though will be welcome news for Connor Wickham’s slender band of owners with the England Under-21s man’s start on the left wing now looking assured for the next couple of months. Some may feel that Wickham’s potential has been dented by his move back to the flank to accommodate Steven Fletcher in the central forward spot, but last weekend’s 11-point haul illustrated the 5.8-priced forward is still capable of delivering from out wide. With Wickham back on the flank, competition for the Black Cats’ right wing berth is intensifying – Will Buckley has now started each of the last two but Adam Johnson will be hoping to oust the summer signing, after being dropped to the bench against Stoke at the weekend. A horrendous run for the Black Cats from now until Gameweek 15, in which they face all of last season’s top five, should give Fantasy managers plenty of reasons to steer clear of their midfield assets for now anyway.

Kouyate Pushing for Quick Return

West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate could be back in the frame for the Gameweek 8 clash with Burnley after making a rapid recovery from a groin injury. The Senegal international had originally been ruled out for up to six weeks after sustaining the problem against Liverpool in Gameweek 6, but is now on course to make a return at Turf Moor.

The Scout Says: Kouyate’s return could be great news for owners of Stewart Downing, after the former Liverpool midfielder was moved to a deeper role against QPR at the weekend due to injuries. That didn’t stop the 5.6-priced man picking up his third assist of the season, however, as he continues to deliver on his underlying stats. With encounters against Stoke and Villa also on the Hammers’ agenda in the next four, Downing’s appeal as a budget midfield option seems unlikely to diminish any time soon.

PIENAAR READY TO PRESS ON

Everton’s Steven Pienaar believes he is still far from full match sharpness after returning from a six-week absence with a thigh injury against Man United last Sunday. The South African was handed a start by Roberto Martinez at Old Trafford, but was subbed off just after the hour mark, and is aware that he will require more pitch time to build his fitness:

“For me, it was a great feeling just to be back on the pitch after almost six weeks out. I didn’t expect to start but when you get this type of opportunity, you have to grab it with both hands. For me, it’s important to stay focused and stay fit now. You can do all the graft and the running, but the thing I’ve missed is playing. It’s different from just running in training and I need more games under my belt [to get back to 100 per cent].”

The Scout Says: Ruled out since Gameweek 2, Pienaar’s return to the fray coincides with an excellent run of fixtures for the Toffees. The South African’s words should also allay fears over any injury, after initial reports suggested he was withdrawn due to a recurrence of the problem in the 2-1 defeat. Coupled with the continued absence of Kevin Mirallas due to a hamstring problem, this should mean that the 5.8-priced midfielder is likely to feature in the Toffees’ starting line-up in two weekends’ time when they face Aston Villa. The Merseyside outfit have been struggling for form recently, with just one win in their last five league fixtures, though they have an attractive schedule ahead of them (AVL, bur, SWA, sun, WHM) which may well provide Pienaar the platform to impress as a real under-the-radar option.

You haven't updated your link, that team is almost identical to mine - as long as Aguero doesn't start scoring hat-tricks we should be fine!

I have Ivan at the mo - and next gw plan to take a -4 hit and have both.

But I'm not sure if Ivan is a keeper at well over 7M - he hasn't scored or assisted for 4 GW's and his fixtures are getting more difficult unless hes fixture proof of course. I may go with Apzi + Baines instead.

was thinking about it. Downgrading a big midfielder for Chadli and upgrading a low range defender but I can't see Chadli continuing with his form and the 4 big hitting midfielders are currently very much essential imo

    Off topic question.
Looking to buy a new car (but doesn't have to be new). Most likely going for an A series Audi, A4-A6.

My main question is PETROL or DIESEL?

The argument about saving money is quite negligible as you spend more on Diesel on the initial price and on fuel but then the tank goes further and the value holds slightly better for resale.

My main concern is how it handles/feels. Have the Diesels of nowadays become more refined/fast and less clunky/chuggy to compete with a petrol counterpart?

I have a four year old diesel Mini Cooper and it's really refined and quiet. New diesel engines are great - very smooth and of course economical. To be honest I don't think you would notice much difference compared to the petrol version. My advice would be to drive both and see what you think. I like the turbo 'oomph' you get with a diesel car.

    @Bseoulbadger..or anybody else...

Just to expand on the OR head f a little...

I'm always amazed at the like of variety or styles of play employed by FPL players...So for example...A City fan employing Kompany, Yaya and Aguero as oppose a Chelsea fan using Ivan Hazard and Costa as the main spines of their team in mini leagues, without treading on each others toes (plus any other teams)...Or mini leagues where teams use maybe English players v European v ROW...or any other number of varieties of play..

There are so many ways this game could be played for fun once the concentration on OR is dismissed...just seems to get in the way of all those possibilities...

Agree. I think maybe the problem is you're only supposed to have one team. If you could have 3 or four, I think people would be more open to having a few fun teams while still playing the serious game

Two tables on Everton and Arsenal respectively, that highlight their best FPL options for their kind run of fixtures. The table mainly takes a look at Goal Threat and Assist Potential.

    Arsenal's

          Flamini-wilshere

With no ozil and Walcott I dont think it will rotate from this too much. Only replacements left are pod, rosicky and Joel Campbell who really aren't threatening the first team.

Save FT and next week downgrade Puncheon or Downing to 4.4 mid and Moreno to upgrade Naismith. If you downgrade Puncheon to 4.4 you get 1.5 mil and all you need is 0.5 more to do Naismith to Welbeck.

Yeah, I think his value will go up next few gw so I'll take the rise and get rid. Needs far too many chances and Id rather get in Sakho or Pelle

    Bego / McCarthy

    Clyne, Ivan, Baines, Moore, Duff

    Fab, Siggy, Sterling, ADM, Boyd

    Pelle, Welbeck, Costa

    0.9 ITB
    2FT's

i can't see anything that I need to do unless injuries occur. I think I want Chadli though. He looked awesome against Saints. Who to downgrade though? (if no injuries)

Guys...any suggestions on this WC draft ?

    Guzan
    Baines / Ivanovic / Clyne
    ADM / Fab / Sterling / Chadli
    Costa / Pelle / Welbeck
    (McCarthy / Wisdom / Boyd / Moorre)

    0.3m itb

In order to accomodate Siggy I need to do Fab & Chadli -> Siggy & Silva (for City cover) but I think I've already missed the bus on Siggy

looks like a nice team though i am not a fan of having both Ivan and Baines - for me one of them is enough but that's a matter of taste. And if so far you have not jumped on the Siggy wagon then no need to do it now - would defo prefer Fab and Chadli over Siggy and Silva

Should free up extra funds too

I have 2 questions for transfers i am considering to do:

    A) Do we consider Lallana as nailed on as soon as Sturridge returns to first XI ?

    B) Best 5.0 midfielder (4th midfielder so always in first XI)? Kranjcar, Arfield, Jedinak, Dorrans, Mahrez or anyone else?

    Thanks.

As a pool fan, lallana is def not nailed on. They will rotate depending on formation and champs league between lallana/coutinho/markovic etc

A - I think Lallana is pretty nailed on if he continues to perform. He isn't even 100% match fit yet and playing great, also BR likes his work rate.

B - How often are you seriously going to play your 5th mid, unless you have an injury? IMO hardly ever, which is why I went for Boyd.

I have Boyd and Downing and have to downgrade the latter. Whoever i buy will be my 4th midfielder so i ll use him.

I think Hutton will be good to have now that Villa fixtures improve - always nailed and still cheap enough - Villa should get some cleanies against lower opposition

Still toying around with finding something of interest...yesterday's convo about heavy at the back is still lighting my fire...so...possibly and for (-4)...

    Krul Ellit (goes after Leicester)

    Baines Kompany Ivan (Hutton Duff)

    Henderson Chadli Hazard. ADM Siggy

    Welbeck Costa Pelle

How many teams would we have with that sort of heavy defence set up ?...just two or three maybe.?

      nice team

did u just buy hendo this week?

i would leave it as it is

only one i wud scarifise is kompany as think they play more openly than chelesea

Yeah they do...too much sometimes...although I'm more interested in whether it will work long term. The last time I had a heavy defence was when I had my team of Belgians (Kompany Vert Vermaelen)....never touched them and they did well...in the end...

for defenders from top 3-4 you have to play long game as over a season they will get the CS + bps

Missing a soton def there. I would they soton def is better than city.mean i would rather have clyne over kompany. Agree with ivan+baines though

      1. Dr Dream
        • 13 Years
        11 years, 3 months ago

Soton aren't as good as we think...for certain they are the best pick in the short term though.

Rewind the season ticker to GW1 and press sort by difficulty and Soton have the easiest first ten games...hence their great showing...(oddly the same as last season)....

Still a decent enough defence though...

What I'm considering is a "what if" scenario of a heavy defence and pick and leave it...for as long as injuries allow...

DOnt think Kompany warrants the extra price so much. Could you fit in Sterling over Hendo and still keep a decent defender?

    My defence is

    Collo (LEI)
    Bertrand (SUN)
    Moreno (qpr)
    Duff (WHU)

    Moore (new)

I have a free transfer and wan to bring Baines, but for who, and what's the point when I have four defenders with good fixtures?
