Ahmed Elmohamady faces a race to be fit for Hull’s trip to Arsenal. West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate could be back in time to face Burnley, Sunderland’s Emanuele Giaccherini may be sidelined until December, while Nigel Pearson talks up Riyad Mahrez’ prospects after the wide man served up a goal and assist against Burnley.

Elmohamady Withdraws from Egypt Squad

Ahmed Elmohamady has dropped out of Egypt’s squad for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers with a back injury and returned to Hull for further monitoring.

The Scout Says: The Egyptian picked up the problem in the final minutes of the weekend win over Palace and reports suggests he also sustained an arm injury in the incident. Having played 64 consecutive matches in all competitions for the Tigers, his loss would be a bitter blow as Steve Bruce’s side roll up to Arsenal, with Liam Rosenior on standby to deputise if Elmohamady fails to make it. Bruce’s shift to 3-5-2 last weekend brought James Chester back into the first-team, though regardless of formation, Andrew Robertson, at 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, still seems the safest option in the Tigers’ rearguard. With Liverpool, Southampton, Spurs, United and Everton also on their agenda in the next seven Gameweeks, clean sheets look very much few and far between for Bruce’s team.

Pearson Praise for Mahrez

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has talked up the recent performances of Riyad Mahrez after the 23-year-old winger bagged a goal and assist at the weekend, describing the Algerian as a “match winner at both ends”.

The Scout Says: Having been dropped in Gameweeks 5 and 6, Mahrez was one of the main beneficiaries of Pearson’s move to a 4-4-2 set-up against Burnley, as he returned to the starting line-up on the right flank and earned his first attacking points of the campaign. The Algerian now sits atop the Leicester midfield rankings in FPL with 21 points, and at just 4.9 could prove an outstanding budget midfield option if he can hold down a starting role ahead of the Foxes’ kind upcoming agenda (new, swa, WBA, sou, SUN, qpr). Mahrez’ gain may be David Nugent’s loss, however, after Saturday’s change in formation saw the English forward left out of the line-up for the first time this season, with Jamie Vardy the man preferred alongside Leonardo Ulloa up top for the Foxes.

Giaccherini Concern for Sunderland

Reports in Italy suggest that Emanuele Giaccherini could be out until December with an ankle problem, after the Sunderland midfielder paid visit to his national side’s training camp in midweek.

The Scout Says: Yesterday’s news will have come as a blow for Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, though will be welcome news for Connor Wickham’s slender band of owners with the England Under-21s man’s start on the left wing now looking assured for the next couple of months. Some may feel that Wickham’s potential has been dented by his move back to the flank to accommodate Steven Fletcher in the central forward spot, but last weekend’s 11-point haul illustrated the 5.8-priced forward is still capable of delivering from out wide. With Wickham back on the flank, competition for the Black Cats’ right wing berth is intensifying – Will Buckley has now started each of the last two but Adam Johnson will be hoping to oust the summer signing, after being dropped to the bench against Stoke at the weekend. A horrendous run for the Black Cats from now until Gameweek 15, in which they face all of last season’s top five, should give Fantasy managers plenty of reasons to steer clear of their midfield assets for now anyway.

Kouyate Pushing for Quick Return

West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate could be back in the frame for the Gameweek 8 clash with Burnley after making a rapid recovery from a groin injury. The Senegal international had originally been ruled out for up to six weeks after sustaining the problem against Liverpool in Gameweek 6, but is now on course to make a return at Turf Moor.

The Scout Says: Kouyate’s return could be great news for owners of Stewart Downing, after the former Liverpool midfielder was moved to a deeper role against QPR at the weekend due to injuries. That didn’t stop the 5.6-priced man picking up his third assist of the season, however, as he continues to deliver on his underlying stats. With encounters against Stoke and Villa also on the Hammers’ agenda in the next four, Downing’s appeal as a budget midfield option seems unlikely to diminish any time soon.

PIENAAR READY TO PRESS ON

Everton’s Steven Pienaar believes he is still far from full match sharpness after returning from a six-week absence with a thigh injury against Man United last Sunday. The South African was handed a start by Roberto Martinez at Old Trafford, but was subbed off just after the hour mark, and is aware that he will require more pitch time to build his fitness:

“For me, it was a great feeling just to be back on the pitch after almost six weeks out. I didn’t expect to start but when you get this type of opportunity, you have to grab it with both hands. For me, it’s important to stay focused and stay fit now. You can do all the graft and the running, but the thing I’ve missed is playing. It’s different from just running in training and I need more games under my belt [to get back to 100 per cent].”

The Scout Says: Ruled out since Gameweek 2, Pienaar’s return to the fray coincides with an excellent run of fixtures for the Toffees. The South African’s words should also allay fears over any injury, after initial reports suggested he was withdrawn due to a recurrence of the problem in the 2-1 defeat. Coupled with the continued absence of Kevin Mirallas due to a hamstring problem, this should mean that the 5.8-priced midfielder is likely to feature in the Toffees’ starting line-up in two weekends’ time when they face Aston Villa. The Merseyside outfit have been struggling for form recently, with just one win in their last five league fixtures, though they have an attractive schedule ahead of them (AVL, bur, SWA, sun, WHM) which may well provide Pienaar the platform to impress as a real under-the-radar option.

@Oliver Bernards Watch: - Yeah I WC'd in Week 3 or 4 I think. It paid off and haven't looked back since. It was later than last years WC anyway!

@Sherlock Holmes: I agree about the TV shining through. the increases aren't as volatile but if you miss one it can be just as costly as before.

@St.Johnstone FC (394th): My team linked is from a few GW's ago, I dropped Rooney on his red card and wont get him back until after Man City. Falcao will work out though!

Good start to the season so far. No pressing

    Begovic Krul

Di Maria, Tadic, Siggy, Henderson, Ward Prowse*
    Aguero Costa Ulloa

What to do with the transfer?

Bruce to regular playing cheap defender such as Moore or Duff

Not a chance is he fixture proof.

The counterpoint is nothing to do with his quality but how United play. Currently they're quite shit defensively and to compensate they have to attack a good deal. ADM is one of those players that is getting forward either to set up or score. I don't think he's fixture proof but with United playing as they are he's certainly useful to own.

di maria is capable that's the difference. the points can make sense but not the manner of them. for example a youtube vid of his 17 assists last season will show just that.
the sweeping under the carpet of good fortune and moaning about the bad is part of a deeper culture on here which is not great. it ties in with me me me want want want need need need. it's not a culture which breeds compassion, more one which breeds lol at comments.
take baines in gw4 and 5. if you rammed his big scores down people's throats you're an idiot. he cost 6.9mil and he conceded 3 home to palace before being bailed out by a 9 point penalty. in the match before a baffling ben foster error got him 6 extra points. baines, like di maria, is capable. it's the complete lack of awareness or willingness to admit which i think is a sign of something bigger and uglier

Chelsea = 3 CSs in 7 matches, 7 goals conceded.
              City = 2 CSs in 7, 7 goals conceded.
              Arsenal = 1 CS in 7, 9 goals conceded.

Don't get me wrong, I'd never argue that these 3 are weak defensively but I think you could reasonably see him get something in one or at a stretch two of those games, most likely vs City and Arsenal (assists more likely of course).

Chelsea are the biggest issue, seem to be tightening up.

I think there is a genuine question mark over him being able to carry on such form (when luck has played a huge part) into more challenging fixtures.

I wouldn't be jumping on the bandwagon now, i think his ship has already sailed.

Better now to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks IMO.

Quite incredible the bitterness displayed by some of you lot here.

He came in to the squad in top form on the back off a rampant season just gone where he finished on 17 or so assists + goals to boot.

People found reasons not to get him then and every week till now where people still question his ability.

Question it all season I say, he has bagged me 70 or so points with the 2 armbands thrown in there...

Last night Gaucho Sunny posted this. I think he's got a very valid point, but was curious what you guys make of it:-
Had Welbeck not got a hat trick against Gala, nobody would be talking about him specially after that miss against Spurs

He didn't threaten the Chelsea defence at all. I expected his pace to cause a few problems for Terry but nothing.

Let's see how he does against Hull..

Ha, I know exactly what he was trying to say. My point is clearly not everyone scores 3 goals against Galatasaray every game, its not something such a 'shit' or 'miserable' player would do.

I'm not being funny here, but not many players in world football possess the athleticism to even be in those positions to score, let alone the nous to finish them.

Welbeck demonstrated his ability against a team playing a high line or leaving space between the defence and midfield in that game against Galatasaray. He did the same against Villa in the PL when we missed Westwood due to illness and had to play Sanchez unprepared.

Teams who defend compactly will make it harder for him (as Chelsea did), but he's learning all the time. No reason to make out he's Emile Heskey MK2 here.

In terms of his ability as a player. It's not about that, more about other options matching or bettering him due to Arsenals other scoring sources

Not a case of disregarding. It's more a case of a lot (not all) people seem to be basing the selection on that game.

Of course some of the reason to get him is from that game. He's shown he can get a hat-trick against an average defence, now he's playing average defences nearly every week for the foreseeable.

I had him in before Galatasaray. He now has a nice run of fixtures, is Arsenal's only striker pretty much and that for around 7m. No brainer for the next few weeks.

My suspicion is that Welbz role as a loan forward is to make space and create attacks, not necessarily bang them in for fun. He'll score goals, certainly more thanks to playing time and preferred position but I'm not convinced that his primary objective is to score all the goals.

My view is there are options for equal or less for the coming gameweeks that'll match or improve Welbeck s output.

Also Arsenal have a plethora of attacking midfield talent, I can see a lot of goals coming from there rather than you'd Danny boy

I also have Costa and Aguero btw. Think he is a great third striker. Don't see any players at his price or lower outscoring him by many and I don't need him to score every week (although it would be nice).

There's plenty - Cissé, Crouch, Sakho, Pellé, Berahino, Jelavic, Ulloa and if Lukaku stays out wide, Naismith. A lot of those play as their teams main goal threat. Arsenal have a lot of other scoring options

They'll score more goals and have better fixtures than that lot too.

By all means, those players offer good potential, but lets not make out Welbeck isnt a decent option.

I don't think he is.compared to some of them for the reason I stated. Arsenal are a team where you can see goals coming from a variety of players. Welbeck is not the only major goal source for his team

Pelle would have been my choice probably but can't afford him. The others do not interest me at all at the moment to be honest, except maybe Sakho.

      1. I think at 7m he offers decent value as is and great potential as a lone striker for a top 4 team

      2. Fixtures. Tottenham/City/Chelsea. Damn tough games. They get much rosier from now on

      3. Form against weaker sides. Double digit return against Villa and a hat trick against Gala. I know it's only 2 games. But it still shows the threat is there. Could be a right flat track bully.

All in all, he has every reason to be talked about. Maybe not hyped up so much, but that tends to happen here regardless. He really does tick the boxes for the coming weeks

That's some sound reasoning. I have to admit it does niggle a little going without him, but I think others will match his output

Yeah, I own him but at the minute I wouldnt be too uncomfortable going without him. Easy to fit him in if he does explode. Also he doesnt make your heart skip a beat like going without Aguero or Costa might.

Who are your current front 3? And where do you think you are spending the cash better elsewhere? If you dont mind me asking

Could be good. I'll wait until Wally is back in full flight though. Im not too keen on cheap strikers. They seem to dip in and out of form and its hard to shift them then to good replacements.

No problem asking at all 😀 it was part of the reason for the post in the first place

            Currently Costa Pellé and Sakho

Now here's the kicker, I have 7m yet to spend with Ferdinand and Eriksen stinking out my team all in all.

I'm reluctant to currently ditch any of the forwards due to the underlying stats as well. So I was thinking of bringing in Baines and ADM

I'm amazed that a defender hasn't given him a proper Martin Keown style 'reducer'.

He's a footballing phenomenon, no doubt, but sometimes i do get the impression the opposition defence couldn't give half a shit once Real get 2 up.

That is an issue. When JRod returns that should help.

I can just picture the mods at home, each doing there own thing, when an alarm sounds that someone has typed something non conforming. They open the cupboard and there in all its glory is the sash waiting for it's next mission. They'd all have different colors of course. "It's time."

During Int break week though the posters are out in force and slightly bored so they join forces to morph into one giant anus.

There is a siren. That is true. And a big red button which opens a trapdoor. We then fall through that spinning as we go and changing from our day clothes into special Fantasy Football Scout branded mod clothes. At the end of the fall we land in the Scout Cave where we each climb into our special vehicles...bit like the Thunderbirds and then off we go to rid the world of swearing etc.

Well, it's something like that, but maybe without so many comic and TV show references.

What do you guys think is the better option out of the 3 below...

    1) Coloccini & Quinn > Kaboul & Chadli
    2) Colocinni & Quinn > Baines & Tiote / any 4.4m mid
    3) Pelle & Sterling > Aguero & Chadli

    Cheers
