Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders is rolled out once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Yet again, the consistent Diego Costa leads the way in this week’s Captain Poll. The Chelsea forward has scored in all but one of his seven league appearances, with only champions Man City stopping him so far – although Palace have yet to concede at home under Neil Warnock, over 37% have placed their faith in the Spain international.

Sergio Aguero is some way back in second, with 19% opting for the City frontman. Aguero’s strike away to Villa means he’s now notched in five of his seven appearances and, perhaps crucially, he’s earned bonus points every time he has scored – Costa has achieved this on only three occasions. Visitors Spurs have a single clean sheet in five, and with Hugo Lloris a doubt, face a tough task to keep the champions at bay.

Danny Welbeck takes third spot as Arsenal prepare to entertain Hull at the Emirates. The summer signing has racked up four goals and an assist in just six appearances across all competitions for the Gunners and is expected to shrug off an ankle knock to start against a Tigers backline that has managed a single clean sheet in six. Team-mate Alexis Sanchez is also on the radar, though has been selected by just 2% of voters compared to Welbeck’s 12% show of support.

Man United pair Angel Di Maria (9%) and Radamel Falcao (2%) are in armband contention as they roll up to West Brom on Monday evening. A goal and assist in three of his last four appearances ensure the Argentine is the Red Devils’ most popular pick but Falcao has still managed to produce returns in each of his last three and looks a real differential here.

Graziano Pelle has scored and earned maximum bonus in each of his last two home appearances yet ahead of a St Mary’s meet with Sunderland has been selected by 3% of voters. Further down the pecking order, Liverpool duo Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge (providing he’s fit) seem overlooked options for a trip to basement-dwellers QPR, though Harry Redknapp’s side have only conceded three times in as many home matches and will be hoping to derail the Reds at Loftus Road.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

next 4-5 look amazing. the thing is that we don't about him too much so he isn't looking so tempting but he is the real deal. Just look at those stats!

    Africa Cup of Nations.

The hosts Morocco have called for its abandonment due to the prevailing Ebola epidemic. This would be good news for fantasy football managers would it not? Even if it does go ahead, I wouldn't be surprised to see certain clubs encouraging their stars to pull out on safety grounds. I think it is significant that the host nation has requested the tournament to be shelved and they may even refuse to hold it in their back garden if the virus situation worsens.

      No, IMO.

You've chosen to distribute your funds as such, with two big-hitting FW's... let it ride.

You could get a bigger-hitting DF out of that line-up though. Moreno or Naylor to a 4.0 lets you upgrade the other to a bigger dog.

I'm getting Baines this week, but am considering a second (free) defensive transfer
    Kaboul or Bertrand?

Spurs: mci, NEW, avl, STO, hul, EVE, che, CPL
Saints: SUN, STO, hul, LEI, avl, MCI, ars, MUN

Southampton have a tricky run coming up in the future from GW13, so may only be a short term proposition.
On the other hand I'm unsure whether I can trust the Spurs defence

Tell me which player would u transfer out of this team? 🙂 1 FT, 0.0 ITB. My thinkings are Krul to someone (although all 4.5 options are bad) or Cahill to Azpi.

    Krul / Foster
    Cahill / Clyne / Naylor / Ferdinand / Moore
Di Maria / Fabregas / Sterling / Siggy / Boyd
    Aguero / Costa / Naismith

Cahill > Azpi would free some funds for Krul > Bego (or go for Myhill @ £4.0 & stick with Foster)?

Like me I think you need a Naismith exit stragey with Barkley's return looming large!

T20 is crap. I never watch it. Or listen to it. Even when Somerset are playing.

Do watch most major sporting events and finals though.

Happy to ditch the chelsea defence? What about azpi for a cheaper alternative to terry.

I'm not sold on Moreno yet, balotelli is like goal kryptonite so his attacking returns are a little limited and Liverpool can't keep a clean sheet.

You're way above my rank just now though so don't listen to me!

No. 2. Brave getting in Moreno when most are selling/ have sold. Might as well pair him with Baines for double attacking left back delight.

    Forster
    Clyne / Taylor / Dummett
    Siggy / Fab / ADM / Sterling
    Welbeck / Costa(c) / Dzeko

    Myhill / Duff / Wisdom / Cattermole

5.5m in bank and 0FT. Thinking of taking 4pt hit Wisdom -> Baines. Anyone know why Wisdom didn't play last week? General thoughts would also be helpful.

    Thanks!

Bloody work commitments have limited by FF time recently, need some advice chaps. Current team is..

    Heaton - Gilks
    Baines - Clyne - PVA - Duff - Wisdom
Sterling - Downing - Fabregas - Di Maria - Cork
    Costa - Aguero - Welbeck

Have 2 FT, 0 in the bank.

Plan is maybe to go Sterling > Hendo this week so it allows me to go Aguero > Sturridge & Downing > Walcott later. Any advice? Or ideas of different players to bring in this GW or the next few.

    Good to go?

    Krul
    Baines/Naylor/Bertrand
    Sanchez/Fabregas/Sterling/ADM
    Costa(C)/Welbeck/Ulloa

    Bench: Foster/Marney/PVA/Wisdom

1 FT, 0.4 ITB. Couple of decisions:

    A) Am I right to play Naylor over PVA?
    B) On topic of the article, who to captain? Costa seems safe, but Sanchez and Welbeck are tempting me.

Its a toss up between Wallbeck and costa in my opinion.

I would go wallbeck as Palace is good in defence at home, not a lot of goals in this one.

    Hi Guys

I have a conundrum on who to captain this week.

I am either going safe and costa(Palace difficult at home, conceded only once so far at home)
Pelle - he is due a good week and Sunderland at home seems good for goals.
    Downing - 50/50
Ulloa - Goal fest with New Caste, but I have burnt my fingers with him before?

Any advice guys as I need to make up points this week???

    Thanks

Depends on how safe you're feeling. Pelle has been pretty solid and you would expect to get something out of him. If, however, you're feeling a bit more daring I'd say Downing. I capped him last week and he did reasonably and Burnley have looked fairly porous at times this season.

Oh noooo costa is now doubtful with 75% chance of playing. I guess on the flip side its only a 25% chance of him not playing.

here's my squad for this week.

    Fabianski
    Baines-ivanovic-clyne
    Fabregas - Sterling-ADM-Siggi-Tadic
    Costa-Pelle

    Mannone-Schlupp-Armand traore-Aguero

Who should I bench this week, because now im sacrificing Aguero.
